3 Contributions Of Greece To Democracy And 3 Contributions Of Rome To Democracy

What contributions did greece make to democracy?

Greece is considered the first country to have had a government resembling modern democracy, so they basically contributed lots of things. They kind of just set the entire basis for it.

Three contributions of Greece to democracy!?

No. The things you describe came about much later by philosophers like John Locke and Montesqueu. What the Greeks brought to "democracy" which vaguely means "rule by the governed" according to Socrates was the notion of universal suffrage (for citizens who only consisted of freed men at 20 years of age or older). The Athenians, for example, voted for their representatives using lots (an in a lottery) and they also had an assembly where many could attend to speak freely and decide on issues. This is what the Greeks more or less contributed to democratic government. Equality under the law for all citizens including officials of government was another notion developed in Greece.

Greek Contributions to the Modern World?

It is often said one of the most influential civilizations for modern times was Ancient Greece. What do you believe to be the three most important contributions of the Ancient Greeks? Explain the impact of the contribution on modern times.

Contributions of Greek and Rome to the Western Civilization.?

The Romans and Greeks both gave many things to Western Civilization. Although the Romans copied many aspects Greek culture, they also made distinct contributions. Greece had the first democracy. All citizens could participate in the government. Rome built on the Greek democratic government and established a sharing of the administration with checks and balances. Both Greeks and Romans believed in justice and the equality of people to a certain extent. The Greeks allowed all citizens, rich and poor, to participate
Greece and Rome have worked together to provide all subsequent civilizations with substantial contributions. Some great Roman structures are the Pantheon and the Colosseum. The Greeks had a polytheistic religion. Greece and Rome have also made tremendous contributions to our civilization with art and architecture. All of these philosophies have contributed to modern thought. Rome produced many works of art and architecture, created Christianity, and added on to Greek philosophy and government system. The Assembly of Tribes and the Tribunes were Plebeians. The Greeks invented the column, the arch, and the dome. The Greeks started philosophy seeking true knowledge. The Romans took these Greek features with some of their own, such as a strong new concrete, and created marvelous structures. Both civilizations' architecture have been influential and served as examples those following them. They believed that many anthropomorphic deities that ruled over them in daily life. The Cynics, Skeptics, and Epicureans searched for happiness in simplicity, spiritual, and intellectual activities. The Stoics, believing in the equality of all people, were influential in both Rome and Greece.

Romans and Greeks contributions to American government?

Hi, I'm writing an essay on the Romans and Greeks contributions to today's society. So far I have the three branches of government, women's rights(did they even have these?) and the right to vote. But I need facts to back these up.

Contributions made to western civilization by Greece?

Here are some:
Density- by Euclid
Pythagorean theorem- Pythagoras
Stoicism- by Zeno
Drama, comedy, tragedy etc
Epic Poetry- cycles of poems that were transferred by word of mouth by the Ionians and Aeolians

But...
You have made a mistake. Athens was not the first known democracy. The first was a Phoenician isle called Jazirat, established nearly a thousand years before Athens. The Biharis also established the city state of Vaishali about 100 years before the Athenians.

Bill, W, the Egyptians "invented" history since they are the earliest known civilization that wrote extensively about their own as well as surrounding cultures.

I also do not agree with the previous poster on several things. Firstly theaters have been around longer than the Greeks have. If you visit India or China, you will see theaters that are older than Greek Amphitheaters.
Secondly, the idea that "strategy" is a Greek concept is really not very smart. Sure, it is a Greek word, but that doesn't mean that they invented it. Numerous other cultures have had strategies, since the time man started to fight one another.
Lastly, sewing or weaving has been evidenced in Paleolithic cultures dating back to before 5000BCE in places like South America and Switzerland. You shouldn't use Wikipedia as a reliable source, since anyone can just change it.
