3 Corries And Betta Sorority Is That Too Much

So I want a 40 gallon aquarium but with bettas?

Well, I did have bettas before, I have house three female bettas together in a tank when they were little, but after they grew I separated them to their own two gallons aquarium. But still, I want to see them in a big aquarium, I know they aren't school fish, but they are gorgeous!

How many bettas can I get away in a forty galleon tank? How many corys should I add to the mix? I do love corys <3 (I'd prefer the smaller cousins).

I would heavily plant the aquarium <3 I want to have live plants, any information on which plant I should use, and how do I make it work? What should I use for in the bottom of the tank?

Can i put a Betta in a 30 gallon tank with fancy guppies?

Betta's and fancy guppies / gourami's do not get along sorry to say.

My other idea: 1 Male Betta, 4 pygmy corries (corydoras) 6-8 platties.

You could also do a female Betta sorority like 14 of them in a heavily decorated/ planted tank.

Dwarf Gourami's don't work with Betta's either. They're both top dwellers and Gourami's are in the cichlid family and they don't like Betta's. They're not a species of Betta though. THey're cichlids.

Can betta fishes be mixed with other fishes ?

there are many fish that are compatible as betta tankmates. The four rules that you can use to determine whether a fish is compatible are

1) Not colorful or resemble a rival betta's colors (guppies)
2) Not a fin nipper (Tiger barbs are a big NO)
3) The right size for the size of the tank (No common plecos in a 10 gallon tank since they get to 2 feet in length)
4) Lives roughly in the same water conditions as a betta (no brackish/saltwater fish)

What fish can i put with a calm female betta in a 70 liter tank?

DON'TS: Chiclids, Puffers, and IF Tiger Barbs have a large school so they ignore others fish cause they are to busy picking on themselves, and feed them good. See I have a Female Live fine with BARBS FOR 2 YEARS. But people on her will go by there Personla expirance too. So its a Chance you can take if your not a fish extremest. Danios can too nip fins but a school of 8 is perfect to avoid this if your not one of those fish EXtremist.

One Male betta cause they can live with females and look for a calmer one who doesn't flare up as much also who will have better luck if you put him when all other fish are in so he doesn't think of the tank as his territory but the others and will Adapt better.

Tetras are great too, Neon's or other smaller tetras. rasboras but they are more sensitive to water levels.

Dwarf frogs.

A Bamboo shrimp, or just a bunch of cherry shrimp.

I would go with the neon's.

Oh ya never mix Gouromies and Bettas they are the same species and think even a female gourmie and female betta can be risky. Like 50/50 chance and you can always buy a new fish no big deal. Dont pay attention to the people on her that get angy, if there angry they arnt giving advice thats good they are just spiting out opinions.

Anyways You could do Kuhli Loches which come in Black or Yellow with Black Stripe. They must be in schools, 3 is ok but six is better and they are thin so they don't produce much waste yet are4inch long.

Corry's of corse but don't mix corrys with the kuhli loches since they eat quicker and the kuli loaches will eventually starve because they are slower as well as nocturnal. But mine do come out in the day time a lot so that depends.

Maybe some otto cat fish. The are a sucker fish that to me look like little sharks. They stay really small and prefer schools. 3 is fine.

Another could be a Siamese algae eater who look like the Chinese algae eaters but stay smaller and are peaceful. They too are a sucker fish so its as good as having a Pleco with out having to worry about up grading.

Can two female bettas live together in a small tank?

Female bettas can fight and kill each other, as I have seen at my workplace. Best case scenario, they do not fight but they will be constantly stressed by each other.I find that female bettas are more easily stressed than males. When stressed they show two horizontal lines down the side of their body, as seen below:(Thats my girl the day I brought her home)And here she is settled in and no longer stressed.Stress lowers the immune system of the fish, making them more susceptible to illness. Also they're not as pretty when stressed. In order to successfully maintain an all female tank (otherwise known as a sorority) the general consensus is that the tank should be at least 20gallon, stock at least 5 females and be heavily planted or decorated so the females are able to escape from each other.20 gallons might seem big but my girl is alone in a 20 gallon tank and it is the perfect size for her. Also note that bettas are tropical fish and their water should be kept at around 77 degrees. I can imagine it would be hard to heat a tank as small as you currently have.Personally I consider the minimum tank size to be 2.5 gallons per betta.

Is Petco this stupid?

If you think that was bad, you should have seen the faces on the employees when I told them what was going to happen to the small tropical fish I bought as food for my oscar. They were pissed and threatened me with stupid bullshit for being cruel to them. I've bought several species of juvenile cichlids, tetras, platys, danios, gouramis, barbs, fancy guppies, fancy goldfish, bettas, plecos and some catfish as treats for him. Not to mention tthe other things I've given him. I go in and I get looks from them like they want to kill me. But oh well, they don't seem to mind when I shell out $30+ for half a dozen GloFish.

Stocking ideas for freshwater 20gallon fish tank?

I have a spare 20 gallon fish tank and I dunno what i should put in it. I have kept live bearers before so i don't want them. has anyone got any idea of what fish could go in there that are interesting and more challenging to keep than live bearers? i have also had convicts, kribensis and firemouths (not all at the same time and in a different tank) so any other ideas would be much appreciated :)

Is my honey gourami a male or female?

This is my honey gourami that I have not named yet because I can’t figure out if it’s a girl or boy.

In real life s/he is a little darker orange. The color makes me think it is a male, but her/his fins are slightly rounded (I think?).

At the pet store, s/he was listed as a honey gourami, so that’s what I’m calling it. If s/he isn’t one, please tell me so.

I’ve had her/him for about a week now. The only fish in the tank are 3 albino cories, one female betta (she’s precious, you can see her in the pic lol, and I wasn’t planning on a sorority, just her), 4 cherry shrimp, and then this guy in a 20 gallon. I have some pretty basic plants. Java fern, java moss, anubias, etc. Nothing plastic.

The tank is fairly new. The water test kit reads 0 on nitrate and nitrite, but it’s just a test strip. I got a “real” ammonia test from API. It read .25 so I did a water change and siphoned out the junk at the bottom. Any tips on how to help this?

Also, lastly, is my tank full? I was hoping I could maybe add some more gourami in there. That of course depends on the gender and if more can fit. Also temperament. This is my first gourami. I was also planning on adding a few more cories, as I have only 3. I do not plan on adding more bettas. This girl was a rescue. She is not mean at all; I do not expect her to cause any problems with any fish.

Anyway, if I can fit more, would gourami be ok in a small group of 2 or 3? And can that fit? Thank you!
