30 Month Old Still On 12 Month Milestone ~and Many Other Problems

Which formula milk is the best for 0 to 6 month old babies in India?

When it comes to infant feeding Mothers Milk is the Best. Mothers milk has lots of undeniable benefits for both baby and mother. The order of choice of baby food (milk) would beMother’s Milk >> Formula >> Animal Milk ( in that order)When it comes to formula, all companies are trying to make you believe that one is better than another. But if for some reason you could not choose breastfeeding, it is pointless to try and choose among formula brands….. as all are more or less the same. All tall claims made by one brand over others are a marketing gimmick and has no proven difference to the baby. You must be knowing that its illegal to promote infant formula. But companies do it anyway in a covert manner…. Beware of that! The only Choice that matters while choosing Formula isIf your baby is full term: Choose a term formulaIf your baby is born Preterm: choose preterm formulaChoose to breastfeed. Choice of formula should be the last choice. The infographics below highlights the benefits of breastfeedingBenefits to Mothers:Benefits to Baby:True situations where mothers are not able to produce enough milk is very rare. In situations where mothers end up dropping out of breastfeeding and pick formula is mostly due to lack of lactational support. Occasionally some mother picks up formula due to some misguided choice. The first few days of breastfeeding are particularly tough especially for new mothers unless there is adequate support. They have lost of questions and apprehensions and need to find answers to common breastfeeding related questions. I personally had lots of problems during my baby's time but I was persistent and motivated and ultimately could breastfeed her exclusively for six months….. and I am so happy about it.Choose to breastfeed, its not a choice it is a responsibility. If you for whatever reason could choose to breastfeed, then any brand of formula is good enough.

Is 16 lbs big for a 2 month old?

That's big but don't be concerned, I have known a lot of big babies in my career, he will just grow into his weight. He is still young.

My son is 23 months old, and he can't really speak. He can say about 10 words. Should I be worried yet?

First of all, 10 words *is* really speaking. His vocabulary is pretty typical of an 18-20 month old, so he's really only a little behind.

He probably just has different priorities. While you are concerned that he isn't talking more, he is developing in other ways well beyond what is typical at his age (especially eating with a fork). He will catch up once he is ready. He may also have more words than you think if he doesn't speak clearly. Some of the noises that you *don't* understand may be him learning new words.

You *might* be able to encourage him to talk more by spending more time just talking to him, but he may just be a kid who decides when he does what he does. I wouldn't worry, but if you *are* concerned, talk to his pediatrician.

Why won't my 7 month old baby sleep through the night?

"why won't my 7 month old baby sleep through the night?"

You answered your own question. THere is absolutely nothing unusual or uncommon about a 7 month old waking at night. In fact, it's probably more common than a 7 month old sleeping through the night.

Babies wake for various reasons - hunger, teething, developmental milestones, growth spurt, and most commonly - their sleep cycles just aren't set yet and most do not have the ability to self-soothe at 7 months.

Unfortunately, YOU don't get to decide that he "should start sleeping through the night", just like you don't get to decide when he is ready to walk, sit up, roll over, or achieve any other milestone. In my experience, babies sleep through the night on their own, when they are ready.

The reason that he is waking again - other than the fact that he may well be hungry - is because you unnaturally forced him to STTN too soon. Never works, and most often backfires.

I have two girls. The first STTN at 6 months (all on her own, no help from us). THe second slept through the night at 17 months. She woke every 1-2 hours all night long, every night until 8 months. She didn't sleep 4 consecutive hours until 10 months.

"does it have something to do with 'just the way he is'?"
Yes, it has EVERYTHING to do with that.

Again, it is very normal for a 7 month old baby to wake up frequently at night.

EDIT - And why pediatricians believe they are qualified to give parenting advice (and crappy parenting advice at that), is beyond me. Sleep is not a medical issue, 99% of the time. Certainly not with babies.

How do I help my 14-month-old to start walking? Should I be concerned that my 14-month-old isn’t walking on her own yet?

First things first: do your best to not act like something is wrong in front of her, and don’t get all up in her face and tell her that something is wrong. You don’t want to scare her or make her upset.Next, take her to see her paediatrician for a full exam. You do want to rule out if there is any physical problem. Good chance there isn’t, but best to check, just in case. Some babies just take longer to hit certain milestones. And she may well be one of those. If she’s happy and healthy, just wait until she decides it time to stand herself up and take a first step. Chances are that you’ll be running after her for many years as she trots here and there.

In desperate need of help from other Moms: Toddler lost 1 pound?

At my son's 15 month checkup yesterday, I was told that he had lost 1.2 pounds. At 12 months he weighed 23.10 and yesterday he weighed 22.80. He did however, grow 0.75 inches in height.

In the past 3 months, my son has cut several teeth and started walking. He has not been ill in any way. He sleeps 11 hours straight at night and is very active during the day.

His doctor said we need to watch this issue, but that he is not concerned. Then he said it may be a thyroid issue or a growth hormone problem. If it was a growth hormone issue he would not have gained any height as he did. I have no idea about the thyroid.

I got a second opinion from another doctor who also said we should keep an eye on it. She was the one who ruled out the growth hormone potential. She told me to add more high calorie foods to his diet.

Here is the problem: I am beside myself with worry. The doctors all agree that weight loss on a chart does not look good. But, there isn't any obvious sign of an underlying condition. I found myself trying to feed him every minute of the day today and I cried when he would not eat dinner. I feel like I have to feed him to save his life. If continues to eat the same way then he will lose more weight. None of the doctors said that this has happened to other kids and they have been fine. They did not even suggest that the weight loss may have been from his walking and he simply needs more calories. I don't know what to do with myself.

My 2 years 3 month child still doesn't speak. Should I be worried?

Usually newborns are screened for hearing at birth. And later in life, during the paediatrician visits for immunization or regular checkups, if the doctor sees any red flags for developmental milestones, they would recommend or suggest ways. That said, every child is different and reaches their milestones at different ages. A normal child this age would say two to three words short sentences and would have at least a hundred words in their vocabulary, even if the child does not necessarily uses those words. I was concerned for my baby as he would not speak until about 2 years. I asked the doctor and was referred to a speech therapist because I was scared to death. The therapist mentioned many reasons, one of those being since he is the youngest in the family and gets his way out without talking much, he does not feel the NEED to communicate using words because his needs are met without asking. So I was asked to question when he babbles. Do you want milk or water? Do you want to sleep or play? Do you want yellow or purple? In short give them choices and they will choose. Read a lot, even if there is no attention. Talk to the child about every day things, chores, errands you are running. And DO NOT force them to talk. Just keep repeating. Hardly 3 months later, he is a chatter box, going non stop!!!

How often will an exclusively breastfed 3-4 month old baby poop?

A 3 to 4 month old fully breastfed baby can have enormous variation in the frequency of pooping.Fully breastfed babies do not create nearly as much poop as formula fed babies or babies that have started solids. The reason for this is that breastmilk being the natural food has almost no waste. Formula has to have a lot of waste as the baby cannot utilise the contents of the formula as well, so high doses of the nutrients in it are used. Much of this then goes to waste. The baby also cannot fully absorb all of the contents of solids, so again the amount of poop will increase when solids are started. The smell of poop in formula fed babies and babies who eat solids is also stronger, for the same reasons. My first baby would poop 6 to 8 times per day, every day, until she started solids around 6 months. When I say poop, each poop was tiny, just a small yellow stain, and almost no solid matter in it at all.My second baby would poop about once per day. Not a lot each time, but more than my daughter did.My third baby started pooping every 7 to 10 days. Once he even went 14 days. This was his normal pattern. When he went, it was a lot more in volume than with the other two, but still quite soft, and not uncomfortable for him at all. No pain in his tummy. No pain to push out, as it was soft. This too, can be a perfectly normal pattern for a breastfed baby.
