32bit Or 64bit Windows 7

How do I change windows from 32 bit to 64 bit?

You can only install the Windows version that matches your processor architecture. If your processor is 32-bit, you can’t install a 64-bit Windows version, unless you change your motherboard and install a 64-bit processor. For you to know that, right-click My Computer and select System. If your processor is 64 bit, you’ll see that there, as shown below. If this screenshot shows “32-bit operating system” and “x86 processor”, you can only change your processor to a new one supporting 64-bit architecture, otherwise you can’t natively install a 64-bit version like that. It’s a hardware feature, not something you can change with a software tweak.

Can I switch from windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit?

I'm not dumb enough to think I can just straight up switch... Obviously I'm going to have to wipe my hard drive and start over but here's my situation:

I got the student discounted windows 7 professional 32-bit version on my desktop some time ago. I'm planning on giving my computer a major overhaul soon (motherboard, video card, cpu, more ram). When I do this, I'd prefer to switch to a 64-bit version of 7 to utilize my ram (planning 4 or 6 GB). What I want to know is, will I be able to get the 64-bit version without having to buy windows 7 again? Should I even bother?

Can I upgrade my Windows 7 from 32 bit to 64 bit?

I think your hardware is probably able to handle 64-bit, but to check, do this:1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools. 2.Click View and print detailed performance and system information. 3.In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type, and whether or not you can run a 64-bit version of Windows under 64-bit capable. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.)If you can run it, then you won't be able to do an direct upgrade, you will have to install 64-bit windows as a full install, overwriting the 32-bit. So, back up your important files first.

How to run 32 bit games on 64 bit windows?

There is no Windows 94 or 97 so I assume you mean Windows 95 and 98SE. You can't run Windows 95 games on Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit as they are only 16 bit games. Even with compatibility mode, they won't work. Also, they need certain audio and video drivers that were only available for that era.

Some 32 bit games do work on Windows 7 32 bit but won't really work on 64 bit operating system. If those games are not video card specific and will run on any type of video card meaning they weren't written for specific video cards then, perhaps, they may work but will possibly crash due to other incompatibilities.

Most Windows 95 games do work on Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 but with XP, there is some degradation and you need to run them in a compatibility window and not full screen.

Most Games for Windows 98SE do work quite well with XP and Windows 7 32 bit but some crashes do occur.

The question that needs to be asked is why did you get a PC (or laptop) with 64 bit OS if you are going to play those older games? Perhaps it was supposed to be used for school work and not playing games? You are better off buying an old laptop or PC with Windows XP or 98SE and using that to play your games so if anything untoward happens (as does often with games especially when playing for long periods of time) it won't affect your good laptop (or PC). You could probably get an old PC (or laptop) for about $40 to $80 on ebay.

How do I install Windows 8.1 64 bit over Windows 7 32 bit?

To install a 64 bit version of Windows you must have an 64 bit CPU.If you are not sure about this, press Windows+Break on your keyboard. In "System Type" you will read "32-bit Operating System". If after this there is "x64-based processor" then your CPU is 64 bit.Now the problem is that you can't install a 64 bit version of Windows over a 32 bit. So the only possible solution is a clean install. But if your CPU is 32 bit you CAN'T install a x64 version of Windows. Try installing the 32 bit version or upgrade your CPU.

How do I run 32 bit games in 64 bit Windows 7?

Someone answered "The 64 bit versions of Windows support 32 bit software. What they don't support is older 16 bit code although the 32 bit versions do.

Maybe you could install Virtualbox, create a virtual machine in that and then install a 32 bit version of Windows on it."

(I don't have a 32 bit version of Windows 7, you cant buy it in 32 bit, it doesn't work that way. You buy a PC Windows 7 is on there, that's it. Your answer is impossible to do.) I cant believe Microsoft made it so all previous software in history is obsolete and impossible to view or use?)

How can I run 32-bit software on 64-bit Windows 7?

With the exception of hardware or software that has a driver that is only available with an x86 version, the application actually includes any 16-bit code (or installer), or requires a Windows Explorer shell extension that is not available as a 64-bit version (think desktop search toolbars), you should be able to run most x86 applications on a Windows x64 system. x64 Windows runs most x86 code as-is, including applications and control panel applets.

I have Windows 7 32 bit. Can I upgrade to 64 bit Windows 10 (since it's a free upgrade)?

Assuming that the hardware supports 64-bit. You need to backup files before switching between 32 and 64 bit. Switching requires formatting the system drive for the OS and doing a fresh install.Assuming that you are on Windows 7/8/8.1 Pro, do the following:1) Download the media creation tool from the Microsoft site2) Create the image for the associated 32-bit or 64-bit OS that you are onRemember : You can upgrade from Windows 7/8/8.1 32-bit to Windows 10 32-bitIf you need to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit, then you need to upgrade to Windows 10 32-bit, activate then format the system and install Windows 10 64-bit (Applications and data will be lost)3) Use the installer to upgradeAlso you cannot freely upgrade from Home to Pro. The automatic activation wouldnt happen and you need to buy a license.See : Sri SuryaKiran Kasturi's answer to How do I activate Windows 10?If not, then you need to buy a license.
