5 Seconds Of Summer Are Punk Rock

Everthing about 5 seconds of summer?

Welcome to the 5sosfam. We don't have a name for fake fans (that i'm aware of) we have this joke that 5sos isn't punk rock I don't really know how it came about but everybody jokes about it. Michael Calum and Luke came up with the band they later asked Ashton to join he is no longer known as the new guy. We pronounce it 5sauce not s-o-s that is very important to remember. They currently have 3 eps out their album comes out the 22nd of next month. Michael dyes his hair a LOT so there are quite a few inside jokes in the fandom about him going bald soon. In really old keeks they had a plastic dog named Ketchup there are a lot of jokes about that in the fandom too. Calum is NOT Asian he is kiwi don't call him Asian unless you want drama. We try not to ship the guys romantically but there are going to be some that do anyway. They are in no way a boyband even though they are on tour with 1d they are not a boyband. There is also an inside joke about Niall being their biggest fan and that he is in the band. That's all I can think of at the moment. Enjoy 5sos and the 5sosfam :)

5 Seconds Of Summer VS. Green Day?

Your comparing Oil with water there.....and only 1 of those imo rises to the top, or chalk and cheese etc they have virtually no common denominator

Green day....Are a political alternative punk/rock band- their lyrics are a protest a scream for help as it were against generally accepted social conformity and oppressive governments and legislation

5sos are a commercial pop, plastic punk band with lyrics designed for commercial success, they were manufactured ,not created because of a common belief

In short 5sos are a fad whilst green day are a musical statement that will still be remembered long after 5sos have retired, unless 5sos change dramatically

Final thought, I believe most Green day fans would be insulted at the idea of comparing the 2......P

What's up with the band 5 Seconds of Summer?

So, a few days ago my sister was talking about this band with her friend while we were on our way somewhere. They played one of their song for the entire 20 minutes drive. It was probably their new song, I don't know!
The entire time both of them were talking about how hot the band members are and how they like their accent and how Michael, their guitar player, played one of the best guitar solo ever in that song even though it was just a wah-wah wankery.

Yesterday, again I heard some girls talking about them in a bus I was in. And again it was mostly about how they'd love to marry one of them, and how hot and tall they are and shits like that. Anyway, it was less about their music and more about their appearance.

I had to deal with both the situations because I broke my ipod and I don't really have anything to listen to...

Are they famous because of their looks? It seems like that's just it. Now, most of their fans might flame me for saying so but I think that's what is... Their music isn't appealing and most of their fans are pre-teen or early teen girls (I've seen one of their live video, I don't know what songs, but those are the only kind of fans I saw). And please don't come up with "hurr hurr they are musically perfect, they touch our hearts and their music is so meaningful. You just hate them because you're jealous hurr-durr!" crap! We all know you're lying.

Is 5 Seconds of Summer a punk rock band?!?

I am a fan of these rock bands: Linkin Park, Green Day, Nirvana, Blur/Gorillaz, Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fall Out Boy.

Last March, I saw their music video "She Looks so Perfect" on TV.. I'm was thinking that there's a new band in 2014 but I don't like them because they doesn't sounds like a new rock band but they're trying to call themselves a punk rock band even they have a "pop rock" label on them. What do you think?

What pop-punk bands do you like?

I guess it depends on the context we are using the term "Pop-punk". The term itself is supposed to mean upbeat punk rock, but if you tell me 5 Seconds of Summer is upbeat punk rock, I will slap you upside the head. I like early 2000's and also 1990's Pop-punk. I like Green Day a lot, I also like Blink-182 and Sum 41. Not a big fan of Good Charlotte as that to me is where the genre turned from Pop-punk like Sum 41 (upbeat punk rock) to the pop-punk of today like All Time Low, which is just pop music with no real punk influence at all. I don't understand how MTV or whoever has gotten away with destroying a term for a genre of music that was actually not half bad. (Early) Green Day, Rancid, The Queers, Screeching Weasel are probably to me the best example of true Pop-punk. At least Blink-182 has somewhat of a punk influence so they are on the list too even though even I recognize that they helped destroy the term. They're like POP-punk while bands like Queers and Rancid are pop-PUNK. The emphasis being on the capitalized word. My favorite pop-punk bands are all older ones that were upbeat punk rock. I don't go around bashing modern pop-punk because I'm not an angsty teenager that thinks everyone should like what I like, but when I hear someone give the genre hate I try to explain that it's sort of a misconception nowadays as to what it truly is.

Why do people hate five second of summer?

there are quite a lot of misconceptions about 5sos
first of all
no, they're not a boyband
boybands, by definition, are strictly vocal groups. they literally just sing and dance. one direction, for example, is a boyband.
5sos started out as a band striving to become punk pop. they were influenced by blink, green day, yknow. played their own instruments.
but then one direction discovered them and took them on tour.. 5sos nearly rejected the offer because they didn't want to be seen as a boyband. they insisted on calling themselves a BAND, not a boyband.
but since touring with one direction, the whole punk pop thing has kind of been forgotten. the 5sos fandom still jokes that 5sos is "punk rock", but it's just a joke. some people outside the fandom take it seriously, but it's just a joke.
however, bands like all time low, good charlotte, and fall out boy have worked with them to write songs, so they're not entirely pop either.

tl;dr: 5sos isn't a boyband, but aren't exactly punk pop either. **they are a pop band with punk influences.**

Why do people think 5SOS is punk rock?

By people, I mean fangirls. All over my school there are girls running around saying they're so punk rock because they listen to this band called "Five Seconds Of Summer". The actual genre is barely pop rock or pop punk. They borderline boy band and just plain pop. NOT PUNK ROCK. I wish they would just stop bragging about people punk rock when they aren't. I'm not a big punk rock fan, but it really irritates me when people don't even know what genre of music they listen to is and claim it to be another.

What's still rebellious about punk rock?

Absolutely nothing at the moment. Look around, there aren't any actual (mainstream) punk rock bands who live up to the punk rock attitude which had emerged in the 70s. The rebellion, the manner in which they spat out revolutionary songs, cutting "gimme a fix" on ones chest during a live show, the drugs, instrument destruction, the heavily distorted guitars, spitting onto the camera lens, the rage, the angst... Its all gone. I think the early 90s were the last we had witnessed the punk rock rebellion and angst w the grunge and riot grrrl movements. Nowadays  punk rock has toned down to a more radio friendly "pop punk" and these bands are all about being nice and clean and cute. There's nothing rebellious about it. I mean teenage fangirls consider themselves "punk rock" just BC they listen to 5 seconds of summer. This saddens me to a point were I just want to creep into a hole and lay there until a REAL punk rock band emerges (I might lay there until I die). While I do not condone any of the above mentioned behaviours, I think that it blended very well w the punk rock attitude. It added to the rebellion and turned punk rock into a lifestyle, not just a music genre. But if you want to know real punk rock rebellion, read about the sex pistols, about the Who (they started the instrument desctruction), watch Nirvana's Live! Tonight! Sold out! (There's footage of Kurt going beserk during a performance of scentless apprentice - he humps the camera etc) even some of the riot grrrl bands such as bikini kill and babes in toyland who rocked harder than some of the "punk rock" all male bands we have now *cough 5 seconds of summer, fall out boy cough* also be sure to check out videos of the plasmatics and Wendy O Williams - they were more metal and their lyrics are silly but boy were they rebellious! Wendy's voice alone spewed rebellion.
