83 S10 Wont Stay Started

1987 chevy s10 blazer 2.8 v6 starts then dies over and over eventually will run?

I would check the distributor, it houses the ignition control module and they have a tendency to fail.

How long can I run my car's stereo system before I drain the battery? Assume the typical battery in a typical new mid-sized sedan on auxiliary power.

Surprising, not very long. Most newer vehicles come with undersized batteries, just enough for a few starts in the worst of conditions.Your car radio doesn’t require much power assuming you are not trying to piss off your neighbors, however it does require constant power when on, so while your starter is a huge draw on the battery, it only draws for ~3 second then the alternator immediately starts to recharge the battery, your radio sucks the power without the benefit of the alternator replenishing the spent power while the car is off…in short, I would think if your vehicle in newer, with a factory battery, all in good condition, and you are listening at a reasonable volume (not trying to impress the rest of the world with your factory base) you are likely safe for an hour IF all othe accessories are turned off.Ok, so you forgot your radio on and you come back to your vehicle and suspect you ran down your battery, what do you do now. Shut the radio off, and let the battery rest as long as possible before trying to start it. A half hour minimum an hour is better. If it starts, after the resting period your not done… leave all the accessories off and running your engine for 5 minutes at a driving rpm (~2000–2500 if you have a tach), then take it on the best nearby highway for at least a 15 minute drive if you can leave off all accessories, 30 minutes if you require headlights or blower, even longer if you can’t get up to at least 40 mph without constantly using the brakes (brake lights use a surprising amount of power if not LED) … Assuming your battery was in good health before you drained it, then this charge cycle should be enoungh, otherwise, you might need to replace your tired, undersized, battery with a new one… should you have to replace it, it is always better to purchase a more powerful battery than what came with your vehicle, but that is an answer for another question…

What are reasons your steering wheel won't lock?

I assume that you are referring to your steering wheel not locking in position after you stop the vehicle and take out the key? There are several possible reasons for this.1. The cog that fits into the detent on the steering column is broken and needs to be replaced.2. The detent on the steering column is worn or broken3. You have not turned the wheel far enough for the cog to find a detent. Pull the wheel first to the left, and then to the right to find the spot.4. The actuator from the solenoid to the cog is broken. To repair this will require the cover on the steering column to be removed, and probably need to have the steering wheel removed as well. Take it to a qualified shop or dealer for this. Incorrect actions could result in damage to the parts, or even the deployment of the air bag on the steering wheel. The exact disassembly required will differ for each manufacturer and possible model of vehicle. If you have a Chilton's manual for your vehicle, you can look up the repair to see what is involve.

Truck starts idles, wont idle for long, will stay running if you give it gas, stalls when in gear help?

Sounds like a fuel supply problem - cranking fills the sump but running drains. But, with something that old, it's smart to check everything you can. So: Idle speed OK? Plugs OK? Timing set properly? Vacuum leaks - Re: bandit_6? Points/condenser OK? Fuel filter OK? Strong spark? Are the heads built, or rebuilt, for unleaded gas? Valve seats on those that aren't will erode over time and not seal properly. Check the distributor shaft for wobble. Assuming you don't have elect. ignition, if you can move it back and forth, the point gap can't be set properly. Does the carb. flood out or go dry before it stalls? Might need a rebuild. Also, passages in the carb. may be plugging up. Gasoline ain't what it was in 1970! Also, unlikely, but a possibility, dirt in the fuel tank plugging the in tank filter. Hope your problem is something simple. Good luck

What causes no reverse but other gears work in manual transmission?

Either an issue with the shifter mechanism (most likely) which is preventing it from engaging. Try replacing the bushings on the shifter as a simple and cheap first step.Otherwise, it could be internal to the transmission. The reverse idler gear not engaging for some reason. Either the mechanism that engages it is off, or the gears straight cut teeth are worn out from engaging it while the car is in motion.

Why do my hazard lights work, but not my turn signals?

Hazard lights and turn signals use the same bulb, so it is not the bulb, the lamp, or the cables to them. Turn signals only work when the ignition is on; hazard lights work whether the ignition is on or not. The two systems have separate power supplies, so they have separate fuses. You may have a blown fuse.Different vehicles use different circuits, and it is not possible to accurately diagnose the fault with the small amount of information provided. You need a circuit diagram and a voltmeter, and a continuity tester. First locate and test the turn signal fuse. Do you have voltage to and from the turn signal switch? The hazard light switch is not a simple on/off switch. In the “on” position, a fused battery feed connects to left and right turn signal. In the “off” position, the left turn switch wire is connected to the left turn lamp and the right turn switch wire is connected to the right turn lamp, so there are 3 inputs and 2 outputs. The fault could be a fuse, turn signal switch, hazard switch, flasher unit, or a broken wire or connection.

What could be the cause of a car’s temperature gauge to fluctuate?

There are several possibilities.1) faulty teperature gauge. In this case the gauage will have to be replaced. This is relarively simple and inexpensive depinding on the make and model of the car.2) Issue with the radiator, coolant of the car. This could be caused due to insufficient coolant, leakage of coolant, damage to the radiator of the car. This will require extensive repair. In this case, it is advised to get the issue diagnosed and fixed at the earliest to avoid engine damage due to over heating.Hope this helps. :)
