9wk Old Baby Has Hard Stools

Black tarry stool on a 7 week old pup?

Your pup needs to be seen by the vet sooner than the end of the month- puppies get progressively more sick VERY quickly. By the end of the month if your pup IS sick he could be dead without treatment.

All of the signs you are discussing indicate a gastrointestinal problem- dark tarry stools usually mean digested blood of some kind which is NOT normal. The dark stool is indicating bloody stool- its just digested rather than frank blood.

A decreased appetite is just as serious and indicates a problem. Sleepy and "not wanting to play" is again another indicator that your puppy may be very sick.

The fact that you got the puppy at 6 weeks is again an indicator that he isn't coming from a healthy place that breeds healthy puppies or they wouldn't have given you the puppy at 6 weeks.

Some of the signs you discuss follow the symptoms of parvo which is quite serious and potentially lethal for young puppies if not treated immediately.

General dewormer isn't going to help unless the infection is being caused by an intestinal parasite and even then there are so many different types of intestinal parasites that might NOT be covered by the general dewormer that frankly in my opinion- using a general over the counter dewormer is wasting your money.

Frankly- $200 is a drop in the bucket for veterinary care. The longer you wait to take your pup to the vet the more it is going to cost- and again, if he IS very sick, and puppies tend to get very sick VERY quickly, he may not make it to the end of the month. You need to find a way to get him to the vet ASAP.

9 Week old hasn't pooped in 4 days?

First time mom, I just went through the exact same thing!

My pediatrician's advice is that this is TOTALLY NORMAL for breastfed babies. My five week old basically stopped pooping regularly (8 days w/ no poop!), and was straining and spitting up after every meal. I wasn't worried about the irregularity because I knew it was normal for breastfeeders, but I didn't like the straining and spitting up.

My pediatrician said if it gets to 8 days I could give her a little prune juice in a bottle, or a little sugar water, but she STRONGLY rejected any other types of manual intervention (medicines, suppositories, etc) because she said it could affect her ability to self-regulate.

Now that my daughter is 8 weeks, she still hardly ever poops, but the straining and spitting up have stopped - I think she just got used to it. She's still gaining weight really well and is doing great. When she does poop, it's a load, and there are no signs of constipation (hard or crumbly poops).

My advice to you is to talk to a pediatrician before you follow anybody's advice in this forum, and make sure the doctor knows your child is breastfed.

If a baby is 4 weeks old, is it safe to give him Miralax because his poop is hard?

Absoluetly not! Miralax is precribed to ADULTS for a reason, and it definitely can cause side affects. Infants usually have about 4 BM a day and formula fed babys easily get constipated. to remedy this use natural fiberous substances like bran, Give fruit juices (such as apple or pear juice) twice a day to babies over 2 months old. Switching to soy formula may also result in looser stools. If your baby is over 4 months old, add strained foods with a high fiber content such as cereals, apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, plums, beans, peas, or spinach twice a day. Strained bananas and apples are also helpful.

and since the baby is so young these can be put in the bottle with the milk.

Is this normal? My 9 week old puppy had some diarrhea?

okay so here's an update; its been 4 days now and my puppy still has diarrhea! he goes about 3-4 times a day. The vet's assistant thinks it might be all the grass, tree branches, twigs, etc.. hes been eating or the rawhide so i eliminated both of those. i have a vet appt tomorrow for him but im serisouly hoping he doesnt have worms! he is not vomiting or has bloody stools, his energy level is good and he is eating, not much as he's a husky and i know they can go for days without eating but he eats and loves his treats, any suggestion on what it could be? thanks!

9 week old kitten has diarrhea with a bit of blood in it and doesn't always go in litter box?

deworm...sometimes there will be blood in the stool if there are worms or if there have been loose stools - the lining of the intestine can slough off...

also kittens are like babies...they need a small confined space to develop good litter box habits (like having a diaper). Run of the house is just too big for a baby...put everything he needs in one room (if it bathroom - be careful to always close toilet lid - he could drown).

Trust me, if you want your cat to develop solid litter box habits, you will isolate him now as a kitten - and once he is older, provide at least +1 litter boxes than the number of cats in the home. Also, make sure the lip of the current box is low enough for him to get into...

Here are some articles to cat behavior and litter box tips (GREAT articles from behavior experts). Good luck!

Can I feed my 2-month-old German Shepherd puppy eggs?

Yes there's nothing wrong with eggs for dogs above 2 months….eggs are easy to digest, taste good and very very healthy. They're a good source of fat, protein and heat.Although don't give a bunch of eggs. For starters only 1 egg a day for two weeks and later you can increase it gradually up to 3 to 5 eggs a day within a period of 4 monthsNote that eggs should only be given as a treat or a snack meal and not as a proper lunch/dinner. Also, the egg should be hard boiled for a 2 month pupper. You can mash the egg and mix it with plain steam boiled rice or mix it with his dog food he'll love it.Cheers

Help!! my yorkie terrier puppy has poop stuck half way out her bum!?

Aw you poor thing! Her and you! This happened to my first dog when I adopted him. He tried for 20 minutes to get the poop out and it wouldn't come out. It was huge and half-way stuck! I rushed him to the Vet and the Vet expressed his anal glands and pushed the poop out somehow. I wish I say how he did it and then I would have been able to tell you exactly, but I would gently pull it out. I would apply pressure around the anus. If you have KY Jelly that will help! You can even use Vaseline.
