My child is allergic to my dog what do I do

My child is allergic to my dog, what do I do?

Your baby's doctor needs to run allergy tests to find out exactly what the baby is allergic to. It may not be the dog at all. You don't know & neither does the doc. Find out exactly what the baby is allergic to & then you will know what to do.

What breed is your dog? Did you know that there are dogs for people who allergies to them? Look up, 'hypoallergenic dog breeds'.

"Child allergic to dog what to do?" a google search

https://www.google.com/search?q=child+al...

But keep in mind, it may not be the dog. My allergies are acting up right now but It is not to by dogs, something in the air this time of yr. I got three large dogs.

Is my child allergic to my new dog?

It definately sounds suspicious. We had to give away our kittens because my husband was allergic and we didn't know. it started off with sniffles and a few weeks later hives. Your 3 year old will definately get worse and other symptoms if it is dog. The dander will build. My kids..also 3, 5 and 7 we upset but understood the cats were making him sick. If you have to give away the puppy your 3 year old will hold up better than you might think -especially if he/she meets the new pet owners. I'm sure you've heard of hypo-allergenic dogs. We ended up getting a yorkie-about the size of a cat anyway! While technically there is no such thing as allergy free dog, my husband is doing fine-he got scratched once and broke out in small red itchy dots around the scratch only-poss. broken skin? But no sneezing or itchy eyes etc. With a yorkie (hair) we can bath him 2x a week if we want. ( I like the idea of a clean dog around kids anyway) . He also can 't make it up the stairs to the bedrooms. A good idea anyway if you are suspicious of allergies. keep your 3 yr. old's room dog- free for the time being. But like everyone else's suggestion...an allergist ..and time will tell for sure.

What can I do? My son is allergic to our dog.?

Take him to allergist, have not. If you have not had him tested for allergies, It may not the dog. It could be a combination of thing. Like dust, mold, dust nights and seasonal. Just because your son has not had problems before, does not mean he could not suddenly develop allergies. Its very common for children to become allergic to something the were not before. I have 8 children and allergies run in both sides of the family. Most my children allergies only acted up the were exposed to more than one thing at a time. One of daughter was fine with being around our cat and holding it. But if you added spring time allergies, cat, milk and dust, she would have a bad case of allergies, that would trigger her asthma. If you take you son to allergist, the he can do some test to find out what he is allergic to. They can some time desensitize your son. Or just give him some safe medicine that will help him with his allergies. Then he can be with his puppy. There is allot of good medicine out. Just learn about the medicine that they wont to give your son. Just go on line.

What do I do? My son is allergic to dogs...?

My son is severely allergic to dogs and he breaks out in hives when they lick him (he swells to almost 3 times the normal size). He can be around them for a while but the dander and fur still bother him. My parents have a dog that they insist is hypoallergenic. Even though their vet has told them that in truth there really is no such thing, even though I have told them he is still allergic to the dog, and even my son's allergist has said he really shouldn't be around any dog for any length of time. Well everything has been going well and when we are around it seems like they really try their best to keep the dog away from my son. Well just the other day while at their house I was sleeping and my husband was showering and apperently they had the dog out of the kennel. They encouraged my son to hold the dog in his lap and pet it! When I found this out I was very unhappy, but I let it go because they put the dog back in his kennel when I came out. Then we were leaving and my son was upset and tired so he started rubbing his eyes and face. Next thing we know my son is breaking out in major hives because he had been in contact with the dog and now was rubbing it on his face. My husband and I have discussed it but want some other opinions. Should we continue to take our son over to their house? What should I say to them if we don't want to bring our son over there anymore? Should I make it where they go visit for only a short time? What are your opinions?

Thanks

My son is allergic to our dog?

yup they can do a blood test, and then asign him medicines

if he is old enough to understand this (ie the teens), then let it be his choise

we got allergy in my fam, and most the kids who are old enough and have it, want the med's instead of living without dogs

just make sure also that the dog do not sleep in his bedroom, and that he try to not nesicarily roll on the floor in doghair. As well wash his hands posible after handeling the dogs, to not rub it in his own eyes, or eat it.

For most people who aint extreme alergic, meds can remove any and all symptomes of allergy. I know my fair share of it because we have all types of geneticaly inheritable allergy in my fam, and have relatives who have it at all levels of severity.

How can you get a child who is allergic to animals to live with an inside dog?

I agree with the other posters. You should really not put your son through that if he is so allergic to animals. It is your responsibility to do what is best for your son, not your girlfriends dog, and that does include at times, sacrificing a bit. If that means that you guys can't live together...that is what it means. You and your girlfriend are both adults, you two should be able to see the best resolve of the situation, and be adult enough to accept that is how it must be, and to carry through. So far, there seems to be two options...your girlfriend doesn't live with you two, or her dog lives elsewhere.
We had to give our own dog away because our daughter was allergic, after having him for 2 years. It can be hard to make the decision sometimes, but necessary.

Can I give a dog childrens allergy medicain for allergy?

Yes, it is safe to give Benadryl, but what kind of allergy is it? Dogs can have food allergies that cause them to be itchy so Benadryl isn't going to help something like that. If your dog has a stuffy nose and is sneezing, it might be allergies, but it might be something worse. A trip to your vet can help figure that part out.
If it is a flea allergy you may need to change your flea prevention program or increase the frequency: like put Frontline on every 3 weeks instead of 4. (Flea allergies make them very itchy right around the base of the tail)
Hope this helps. Just remember to be careful about giving animals human medicine: even if it doesn't hurt them immediately it may last alot longer than it would in a person and you can easily overdose.
Often if you have a question, just call a vet and ask them if you can use that medicine in your dog. If they don't want to help you, call another vet. They are your BEST source of information and most of them really do want to help you!!!

Should you get rid of your family pet if your child is allergic?

I would never get rid of my pets.
My pets are family and I don't toss family away..
I would just try to keep the cat away from him and keep the house clean... Vacuum and etc. Your step son is allergic to grass trees and dust mites and you can't get rid of these things too.... if he's allergic to dust mites you have to keep the house clean anyway so some cat hair won't be a problem as you have to clean the house anyways to get rid of the dust.... Right?
Please down turn your kitties away... They love you.. Just because they've become a little work now you want to get rid of them? So your love is conditional ??? :(

God bless you!!!

My boyfriend is allergic to dogs, what should i do?

I know this might not help now, but I wouldn't even consider anything but casual dating with anyone allergic to my animals. I love them, and when they die I'm getting more since I can't imagine life without pets. If I met someone, they'd be off my list as soon as I knew they had pet allergies. Pity you let things get this far without thinking of the future. Now you have a tough decision to make. A life with your guy probably means a life without pets. You'll never know which animal he might be allergic to until it lives with you. It seems a bit odd that he's okay with the cat but not the dog, but allergies can be peculiar. There are people who unconsciously 'get allergic' to things they don't like or don't want to deal with. Is this man an Aquarius? They do that.

If you want to stay with this guy, maybe the dog better just stay with your parents for life. Can your guy visit in a house with the dog in it without getting a reaction?

Do kids grow out of dog allergies?

Sometimes they do, but usually not. Sometimes the allergy gets worse as they get older (as is the case for me and cats).

I'd suggest you take him to a local shelter and pick a dog to walk. Have him get close to the dog, pet him, give him lots and lots of attention. See how your son reacts. If it goes okay, go back another day and try with a different dog. Different people react to different breeds, so if you could find a local Basset Hound breeder, that would be perfect! I'm sure she'd be happy to have him come out hang with her and play with her dogs for a day. If it goes well, then you go ahead with your plans,..... and maybe even found a great breeder to purchase from.

If your tests don't work out, well, you can always look forward to when he goes off to college in six years ;)

edit: I don't know where you live, but you can find reputible breeders at the link below. There are lots of BH clubs in the US, so try a Google search for your state/region club as well. Hopefully there is one in your area :) OR, you could also contact a local breed specific rescue and volunteer to foster a Basset Hound. That would be the ultimate test.
