A Book I Read In Elementary School .

I’m trying to find a book I read in elementary school in the 90’s but I can’t remember the title.?

Here’s what I know:

It was published in the 90’s or earlier (duh).

It has something to do with a child (boy?) who finds a secret island on a lake or something to that effect.

I believe it is set in the summer.

It may have won an award? (I usually picked my books off of award lists)

I remember the cover having a chainsaw with a butterfly on it.

That’s basically all I can remember. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What one book you read in elementary or middle school that "messed you up"?

Goosebumps. 1000%.I was OBSESSED with these books in elementary school. I would read all of them at school during quite time or at home, and for the most part I enjoyed reading the books and was not scared. However, there was one book that messed me up and I still even think about it today…The Cuckoo Clock of DoomThis book simultaneously intrigued yet terrified me. For brief context, the main character (I forget his name) finds a cuckoo clock at an old store. I forget the details, but basically every day he wakes up and is YOUNGER than the day before but by a significant amount of time (one day he is 10, the next he is 8, etc). I was so freaked out after reading it that I wouldn’t go near a Cuckoo clock for months. Even now I think that would be a great plot for a movie (although it kind of resembles The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).I know that there are other Goosebumps books that scared me, but that one was by far the worst. Maybe I should go back and re-read it?

Does anyone remember reading stories in elementary school about a ghost named Noodles?

I was in first grade back in 1975 in St. louis, MO. I seem to be the only person I know to remember these fictional stories about a friendly ghost named Noodles.

What are a few books you had to read in high school?

These are some of the books I was assigned to read in high school:Le Petit Prince (French class)Silas MarnerWuthering HeightsAnimal Farm1984Lord of the FliesThe JungleThis is all I can remember from high school, although I remember that we read quite a bit of poetry and Shakespearean plays. In eighth grade, we read Mythology (Edith Hamilton), The Scarlet Letter, Where the Red Fern Grows, and Incident at Hawk's Hill.In seventh grade, we read The Dark is Rising, Of Mice and Men, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Hound of the Baskervilles. These are the books I can remember that we were required to read. They were many more that were ones I chose out of a list of options.

What type of books are read in grade school?

Read the books as per your interest. If you are in some profession, read based on that as it will enhance your knowledge and help in your work.

How many books are needed to start an elementary school library?

A2AApparently some people have decide you do not need any, just computers with internet access to reading materials. I disagree. But, your question cannot be answered in a vacuum. How large will your school be? How many books do you expect each student to read a year. That would give you a simple looking multiplication problem. But, how many books do you need at each level of difficulty? Will you allow the bright second grader to check out books that were meant for higher grades? (I strongly recommends it!) That means you will need more of the higher level books so there is a good selection. The same thing happens if struggling students are allowed to take books intended for lower grades so that they can successfully read them independently. You can start with a traveling cart! It beats not having a library. But, I would recommend a number larger than the number of students times the number of books you expect them to read in a year.

Do americans read grammar books in high school? What grammar people read in USA?

Any teacher can help me? I am a portuguese teacher studying english to become a portuguese-english teacher in Brazil. And I want to know books for highschool and for english university students too, if possible.

I've buy Cambridge Grammar and like it, but people say that are difference between US english and UK english.

What books have American high school students read until their twelfth grade, like the Homeric epic?

First of all, you shouldn't be ashamed of not knowing every reference your American friends make. I'm sure that you know a lot of things that most Americans don't. If you wanted to be better acquainted with literature, however, all you have to do is pick up a book. Here is a list of texts I was assigned to read, from grades 9-12:- The Hound of the Baskervilles- The Secret Life of Bees- The House on Mango Street- The Joy Luck Club- Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde- Romeo and Juliet- Macbeth- Twelfth Night- A Separate Peace- The Catcher in the Rye- Antigone (Sophocles)- Pride and Prejudice- Of Mice and Men- The Great Gatsby- Into the Wild- 1984- Our Town- Brave New World- The Yellow Wallpaper (Short story)- Fahrenheit 451- The Crucible- The Scarlet Letter- The Sun Also Rises- Adventures of Huckleberry Finn- The Awakening- Various poetry and prose(Of course, not all of these texts were written by Americans). This is just my experience. Every school and course assigns different books and sometimes we even get to choose from a number of options.  From your question, I gather that you are looking for a base knowledge of literature Americans are familiar with. This is a short list of books that are very commonly assigned books to high schoolers. If you only had time to read a few, you should choose them from this list. These 10 books (organized by my personal preference) are quite likely to be referenced by your peers.- Animal Farm (George Orwell)- The Scarlet Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne)- Romeo and Juliet (William Shakespeare)- The Catcher in the Rye (J.D. Salinger)- Lord of the Flies (William Golding)- The Great Gatsby (F. Scott. Fitzgerald)*- To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee)*- Of Mice and Men (John Steinbeck)*- 1984 (George Orwell)- Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Mark Twain)**Also very useful for understanding American HistoryI really hope I was helpful and answered your question!Cheers,Gene
