A cracker bakery wants to test microwaving crackers after breaking to reduce the risk of broken crackers at the time the package is opened.

The experimenter randomly assigns 65 crackers from one day's production to be microwaved after baking, and another 65 to a control group. Fourteen days later, 3 of the microwaved crackers show visible "checking", which is the starting point for breaks. At the same time, 57 of the 65 crackers in the control group show signs of checking.

Do these samples provide evidence significant at the 1% level that microwaving after baking reduces the risk of checking in these crackers?

I accidentally ate bread with black mold a few hours ago. What should I do? How dangerous is it?

The risk depends on whether you are immunocompromised (either natural immune problems or suppression with medication), the strength of your stomach acid (ie are you taking antacids or being treated for acid reflux which could suppress the stomach acid), and how much black mold was consumed. For an immuncompromised individual with suppressed stomach acid it could be a serious risk. For most other people the risk is very small. One way to look at this is to remember that mold is one of the most prevalent organisms in our environments - it is present in our food, in the air, and on living surfaces. Therefore, we are all ingesting small amounts of mold from time to time without any harmful effect. Furthermore, the body has multiple defense mechanisms to protect against any organisms that we ingest. In the case of mold, it is almost certainly instantly destroyed when it comes into contact with the acid produced in the stomach. Therefore, in short, having accidentally consumed some moldy bread shouldn't have any harmful health effect. The most likely consequence from eating moldy bread is simply the unpleasant experience of realizing that you just did it! That being said, if you experience any concerning symptoms like nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea, or fever, or cough you should be checked out by your primary care doctor. They will be able to make sure everything is ok and that you did not pick up any serious infection. Again, this is extremely unlikely to occur after eating the common types of molds that are found in bread, and I wouldn't worry about it too much.Is eating mold bad for you?Black bread moldZygomycosisMucormycosis: Get Facts About Treatment and Diagnosis

What is the best way to eat an Oreo?

My favourite way of eating Oreo consists of the following steps, and has been tested and appreciated by a lot of my friends (Don't ask me who, too many to mention here, :P) :1. Carefully open a cookie, by twisting the top and bottom parts in opposite directions, while trying to tilt them against each other too, so as to get all the cream/filling only on one of the cookies (This is important, as you will find out on further reading). If you fail to get all the cream on one side only, try to transfer all the cream on to only one cookie. Alternatively, you can just gobble it up, and try again with a new cookie.2. Repeat Step 1 for one more cookie. Now you have 4 cookies: 2 with NO CREAM, and 2 WITH CREAM. (Henceforth I will just refer to them as NC and WC respectively, to shorten this long paragraph on a seemingly trivial topic to the layman).3. Take the 2 WCs and close them, with their cream-containing faces against each other. Congratulations, you now have a double-cream Oreo cookie!!Keep it aside for now.4. Take the 2 NCs  and break them into small pieces (the number of pieces you want to break it into, is entirely upto your taste, and patience). Drop them into around 150 ml of cold milk, preferably in a bowl.5. Repeat steps 1-4 for about 8 more cookies, so that you now get at least 4 more double-cream cookies. Break and put all the NCs into the bowl, and shake it slightly. Do not beat it, or mix it with as spoon.6. Now you have everything in place to start eating. Start with double-cream cookies, take a bite without dipping it into milk, and then take a bite after dipping it in milk. You can alternate, if you like it. Take a spoon (or just drink directly from the bowl, if you don't mind) and take an even mixture of NCs and milk, and have it while your mouth still has the double-cream Oreo cookies. Finally slowly drink the remaining milk-NC mixture, enjoying every sip. Do not gulp down in big swigs, as this will not let you reach the 'high'est state Oreo ecstasy.Enjoy!!

Should we give money to beggars?

Thanks for asking Sravani,NO, we should not give money to healthy street beggars. My dad taught me this with a live demonstration in 2012.I was in my final year engineering. One random day, we (me and dad) went out to get some groceries.Grocery store was nearby so we didn’t take any vehicle. Another reason being, we loved those walk and talk chit chats. So, we got what we wanted and started marching back home. We then noticed a street beggar asking money to every person passing by . His clothes were bad but he was looking healthy with two legs, two hands and two eyes and perfectly functioning ears.I asked my dad, “shall we give him something?”.Dad replied, “Never give money to beggars who can work hard and earn their bread.”Before I asked him “why?”, he went to the beggar and gave him Rs 50 and said, “Have a good meal”. (Back then, Rs 50 was good enough to get a full meal from a decent canteen/mess.)That beggar gave some blessings in return. My dad came to me and said, “Let’s go.”I asked my dad, “Why did you give him money?” .Dad said, “If I said, he’ll waste that money for buying booze, you won’t believe me. Now let’s wait there (next street). Just see what happens.”We waited for 5 minutes in the nearby street. That beggar made his move. Counted his money and went to a wine shop.Dad then said,“If you notice any healthy beggar asking you for money, don’t give him money.”“If you really feel any beggar is helpless like handicapped or old, offer him/her a meal or give them clothes or medicines”“If you find someone saying, I lost my wallet, I need to go to X place, I need some money, offer him a bus ticket. Then you’ll notice he’s a fraud.”However, if you find a known(humble) person in trouble. Don’t think twice to help him out. After helping him out, don’t expect anything in return.
