A Few Questions About Piercing The Helix/cartilage

Double helix (cartilage) piercing questions?

I want a double helix piercing soooo badly XD I want hoops in my double helix. But I do have some questions
1.) should I get it done with a needle or gun?
2.) when can you take out the original piercing to put in a new earring?
3.) I play basketball and I heard cartilage piercings take a year to heal and that you always have to wear an earring in that year. So would I do for basketball? Especially if I have these hoops? Or can I use the small ball earrings?
4.) could they do the double helix at one time? Like they can do the first helix then the second one?
5.) any other tips?
6.) how much does it usually cost
7.) should you only get it on one ear or both?
Thanks!
Answer as many as you can

Cartilage Piercing Questions?

Glad to hear you're getting pierced with a needle! Piercing guns are awful!

1. That really depends on your pain tolerance and your body. I've had 5 different helix piercings and they have all varied in pain...a few hardly hurt and the others hurt a bit more. There's no telling what you'll experience.

2. Again, this is another answer no on can really tell you. One of mine hurt for a few weeks, one hurt for about 7 months, one for a few months. It just varies.

3. It can, it's best to wear your hair up so it doesn't get tangled while it is healing.

4. Wear a headband, have that side of your hair behind your ear.

5. Yup! Sea salt soaks twice a day for 5-10 minutes each soak with 1/4th of a teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt to 8oz of hot water. Put the solution in a bowl (might be necessary to double it) and tilt your head into it to soak the piercing. No soaps, ointments, regular salt, bactine, alcohol, peroxide, creams, just sea salt soaks.

6. Cartilage takes 6-12 months to heal completely. 8-12 weeks isn't long enough, you always want to wait until it is completely healed before you change it.

7. Hoops rotate around and can drag in crust and bacteria. I've always found that a short barbell (not too short of course, gotta allow room for swelling) have healed better than having a hoop.

8. As long as you avoid sleeping on the side that it was pierced on, you can get whichever side pierced that you want.

Ear cartilage piercing question?

I'm graduating from college in a few months, and I'm going to be an Elementary School teacher. I have my ear lobes pierced, but recently got interested in getting my right ear cartilage pierced. My question is, will I still be able to look "professional" with this piercing, or should I just stick with the lobe piercings i already have?

HELIX/CARTILAGE PIERCING?

1. Needles are much better and promote a much faster healing time. No more or less pain than with the gun.

2. Anything that fits the hole. I currently have a 16g curved barbell in, but I switch it often for a 12 gauge labret. If you get the standard piercing size (16g) you can wear any 16g (give or take a size ex. 18 or 14) in any style or shape.

3. Mine only took a few months at MOST, but during the piercing I sneezed and the needle slipped, causing for 2 holes, and thus an problem. It isn't very painful at all, the only problem I had was a bit of tenderness if I slept on it for long periods of time. That was completely gone in under a week.

4. A concert can not affect your piercing unless it is a crazy mosh pit and someone hits your ear hard enough to make the jewelry fall out. I doubt that, so you should be fine!

Good luck with your piercing!

Hi so I have questions about getting a helix (type of cartilage piercing)?

It's a Triple Forward Helix. You can get all 3 done at once but personally I wouldn't recommend it. I have a single Forward Helix and it was painful to have done and I could not have had 2 more done on top of that there and then. But it's not really the initial pain of why I say I wouldn't get them done at the same time it's more the swelling and looking after them. Mine was swollen for about 3 months afterwards before it went down and it started to settle down, I'd imagine the swelling with 3 would be even worse.

And not only would you need to consider the swelling but Forward Helix piercings are awkward to clean so imagine having to look after 3 at once? Obviously it is up to you but personally I'd get one, leave it for about 3 months, then get another, leave it for another 3 months or so and then get the last one.

On one ear I have 2 x lobe, a standard helix, a Forward Helix and a lower helix and it looks perfectly fine, well I like it anyway. You get a combination that you like.

The piercer would likely do it using titanium barbells. Get it done with whatever the piercer says is best for healing because it's important they heal well and then after healed you can get them changed to what you want in them. Mine was done with a titanium barbell, I've never even changed mine, too awkward to swap.

Helix/Cartilage Piercing Tips?

I had my cartilage pierced but it went a bit 'wrong' as I say. It just wasn't healing =[ So I took it out and let it close. So today I went to a different place and got it done again (yes with an ear piercing gun - I know its not safe but don't kill me haha) on the other side. I love it and it's really cute! Hehe
To clean it I have sea salt and a can of H2Ocean. I'll do a sea salt soak at night time and use H2Ocean in the morning (as I don't have much time before school). Does this sound okay? Or should I clean it 3 times a day? How much sea salt do you put in a cup of boiling water to make the sea salt soak?
Any other tips on how to heal my new piercing?
Thanks
I will choose a best answer =D

Stretching Helix/Cartilage Piercing?

Hi, so I've had two cartilage piercings, (one in each ear) for a few years now but after they healed I changed from my original earrings (the ones they pierce them with) to normal size ones.
I just ordered a new pair of cartilage earrings which are like 1.2mm, which would probably fit into a normal size piercing but since i've being wearing simple studs the holes have shrunk. So yesterday I pushed my piercing studs back into my cartilage piercings to try to widen them again but its really painful and i caught one of them which after I checked noticed it was bleeding. Can anyone give me some help and advice on how to stretch them so i can fit my earrings in and reduce the pain a little because its almost constantly throbbing :(

Is helix and cartilage piercing the same thing?

A helix piercing is a type of cartilage. Cartilage is a rubbery type of skin, you have it on your nose, ears, etc. I have my helix pierced, and it's higher up. If you ask for a cartilage piercing, the piercer will know what you're talking about. Cartilage is like slang for "helix".

What do I do if I’ve slept on my new cartilage piercing, and it is very swollen?

Thanks for A2A.What do I do if I’ve slept on my new cartilage piercing, and it is very swollen?Hopefully, it is only swollen from the circumstances of your question. As long as there is no sign of actual infection, you should be OK just keeping it clean and cool. A cartilage piercing is prone to swelling, but no more likely to be infected than any other properly maintained piercing. The nature of your question suggests that this is a fairly new experience for you. Follow the directions you were given by the piercer for maintenance and check regularly for any discharge from the piercing. Clear fluid is no cause for worry, and it is likely the cause of the swelling—this same clear fluid is what the body uses to isolate burned skin (therefore found in blisters).Standard over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain killers should suffice. Just keep it clean and protected until everything has stabilized. Obviously, you’ve learned to avoid physical trauma in the future. Padding it from both sides while sleeping might make you a little more comfortable.

How do I clean my cartilage (Helix) piercing with bactine?

STOP! DO NOT USE BACTINE! Either Dial soap or sea salt baths. Either one works wonders, be careful of infection within the first 2 weeks though, if you can, it is ok to twist a little, just make sure you get the crusties out of the piercing when cleaning. you do not need to move it too much
