A Good Overthe Counter Pill For Dogs

Can a dog take over the counter water pills?

The OTC "water pills" are usually made from dandelion root. They wouldn't hurt her, but they won't help her enough either. She needs her lasix. It is not an expensive drug. Call your vet to see if he will just call in a script to WalMart for you. It is on the four-dollar list there. And the human lasix size can be broken into small pieces to use for a dog. It is usually much less expensive to simply ask your vet to call in a script rather than buying it from the vet. Most vets will cooperate with owners if they understand cost is an issue. And they know how to order the correct dosage by using half or a fourth of a human pill.

Is there any dog sleeping pill over the counter?

yes you can give him benadryl but be careful as you dont want to overly sedate him...you should go to the vet though they have a sedative given to dogs for this very reason its called acepromazine, or ace for short its your best bet and is safe!

What is a good mild over the counter sedative for dogs? No Benadryl please.?

My dog needs shots and he gets really nervous at the vet. He tries to bite and he doesn't stay still. The vet recommended a mild sedative and gave me a name but I forgot. I want to be able to purchase the pills online before the appointment because the vet's prices are ridiculous. My dog is a 35 pound chow, aussie, and lab mix if that helps. Thanks to all answers in advance.

Sniffer Dogs: can they smell over the counter stuff?

Thesse dogs are only taught to alert to what they are trained for-for intense a dog trained to find dead bodies will not alert to drugs and vice versa. So if the dog is trained to find cocaine/herion/weed and he comes across tylenol he won't alert to it! Now if the dog is conditioned to alert to morphine and you have a pain pill that is morphine based he can depending how good he is OR if hes conditioned to alert to baby aspirin he will if he smells baby aspirin so they only alert to what they are conditioned to. If they are conditioned to alert to several types of drugs you can not command him to say for intense tell him to only find the weed and leave the crack alone, he will alert to all of it. So if you have a prescription with a controled substance that he is trained to alert to he will alert They can be trained to alert to anything say chapstick - its all a training thing not a morals/legal thing for them.

What is a good brand of over the counter dog worm medicine that works?

Actually there are many. Brandnames are not important, but active ingredients are important.
Two of the most common ingredients and most effective ones are Fenbendazole and Pyrantel Pamoate.

If you are not sure of what worms or if the dog hasn't been regularly wormed then Fenbendazole is the chemical you would choose first. It is sold under a few brandnames, one of them is panacur. If you can't find that, then just be sure to read all the labels under ingredients. Fenbendazole kills worms in the gut and migrating larvae including tape worms. Many vets give Fenbendazole in a three day round, others only do it once. You can make your own decision on that.

The second common wormer ingredient is Pyrantel Pamoate. It kills strongids in the gut. It is also sold under many brandnames. It doesn't kill as many types of worms, but is safe for young puppies and expectant females. It will kill hookworms and roundworms.

Just read the labels under ingredients. You might have better luck finding a good wormer at a farm supply store rather than a department store, but they are available in both places. Dogs should be wormed once a month. The Heartguard you get from the vet has two types of wormers in it, one of them is pyrantel.

Of course if you still see the dog passing worms after using these, you would need to talk to the vet about a round of ivermectin. That is more difficult to dose, so you will need dosing advice. But, Yes, it is certainly possible to safely worm your dog with OTC full spectrum wormers.

Someone mentioned praziquantal. That is used for tapeworms, but not others. It is a bit more expensive. If the dog has fleas or had them, then I would use Fenbendazole first. You can do it for three consecutive days, and it will kill tapeworms in the three day cycle. It's cheaper, and has the advantage of being a wider spectrum wormer.

Over the counter pain relief for dogs?

otc meds can harm a dogs stomach and/or liver, can you just call your vet and ask over the phone before you do anything?
whats the pain for? There's glucosamine pills you can give daily for joint pain that you can get at petstores (although certain brands will absorb more and better into the dogs body like my vet said PetTabs is a good one but cosaquin DS is the best )
Just one tylenol can kill some dogs, and 1 can kill cats.

What are some over the counter antibiotics for dogs?

You can use thyme oil, peppermint oil, or oregano oil as an antibiotic for your dog! I’ve used it on my friends chickens and dogs and they work miracles! You can see the studies and trials they’ve done with them, its pretty amazing! DON’T buy it from the store. MAKE sure it’s purity tested by a 3rd party as well because you can poison your animals if its contaminated in any way. I’m blessed to know a couple of great sources. But please please don’t get just any oil brand! If you shoot me a message I can send you some info
