This is a similar situation to pickup trucks in the USA. Some say chevy, some say ford, and some (not many) say dodge. They can all haul things and pull things and drive nice and all get around the same gas mileage and will all last around ten yrs. However, when it comes down to it, which one is “Best” depends on who you ask.When it comes to digital DSLR cameras, there are only around 3 top contenders. The rest, while good quality, just arent as popular as the top 3.Nikon is a great camera. High quality build, excellent image quality, and a wide selection of different models with different capabilities to choose from. There are lotsa accessories avail for them, and many of the most famous photogs out there today swear by nikon.My personal fave is Canon. Canon is the top seller in most markets. It also captures amazing images, is used by award winning photogs, and is the most popular camera brand used by paparazzi and sports photogs. At the nfl and nba and pro baseball games, most of those cameras you see on the sideline with the long lenses….are canon. Im a portrait and model photog.I prefer canon because my first one was a canon and the basic operations of all canons are essentially the same. If I were to happen across a nikon I want to try, I would, but it would require a learning curve of a few weeks to get its controls engrained into my mind. As it is now, with a canon, I dont even have to think about it when I go to make an adjustment. I like the feel of a canon magnesium frame. Ive dropped several cameras at some point and they always keep on working. It seems that there is more choice when it comes to glass, and Ive always found that there are more accessories avail for canon products. Canon has top quality models avail to suit the needs of beginners all the way up to full time professional photogs.Lastly, Hasselblad. Thats pretty much the highest end camera out there that working photogs use. High end fashion, photography for advertising, and anything that has to do with celebrities on a magazine cover are all where hasselblads shine. They have the highest density of pixels and are the most expensive camera amongst all that working pros use.If I was a zillionaire and wanted an awesome camera, one of those 3 brands is what I would buy, depending on my needs.

First they're spelt Nikon, Kodak, and Canon (thats with one N, otherwise you've got your self a big thing that goes boom-boom a lot). Right in terms of who is the best theres no outright winner. But its usually between Canon, Nikon, Panasonic and Sony, but remember every band has bad albums, as well as the good ones. Not every camera from these brands are good, watch out! There is no doubt that at the sharp end of things that Canon and Nikon rule the roost for the pros. Nikon Pro flashes are better than Canon ones, plus Nikon less up themselves, but Canon's L-lenses are second to none. If you're a photojournalist, papparazi or other mobile professional then you have to go Nikon or Canon. Coming down to the consumer and advanced level, Sony does start to come into it a little, but still its pretty much Canon and Nikon that rule the entry level of the SLR ladder. Though I'd say Nikon has Canon pipped due to better value for money. While all Canons can choose from 20 years of glass, only some Nikons will work with 20 years of lenses so there you do. Sony is the invader here, creeping in with their alpha series, good cheap SLR cameras, but lack development potential still. Coming down to the high level enthusuast compact, you have the battle between the Panasonic LX3, and the Canon G10. Canon also have their superzooms out there pitched up against the Fujis, Panasonics and the Nikon P90. While the ultra compact market is pretty much owned by Sony who use aerospace alloys and funky stuff to make things smaller than anybody else. And right at the bottom Panasonic have the best budget camera out there.
Is Kodak a good digital camera brand?
Yup they're terrible! I bought one last year and kept it for a week before i sold it. I've always been use to having a camera that had high quality images, and didn't blur, so after buying a kodak i was very shocked at how bad it was. I work in graphic design so always use my camera to produce stock images and had never had a problem with previous cameras standards, but kodak were rubbish: the majority of the shots were blurred when uploaded to my pc and zoomed in, and just looked bad full stop. The colour was off, images weren't sharp at all, and there was no way i could use that for work! I'd recommend buying a fuji. I've neve had a problem with these and the images they produce are beautiful. I even managed to shock a professional phorographer with some images i took from a fuji compact!

This is strongly subjective, people are usually very defensive of their own brands, I'm morally neutral (so to speak), as I'm looking at changing systems. The ones I will talk about are Sony, Canon, Nikon and Panasonic. Sony only started making DSLRs a few years ago, but are already very popular. Whilst the cameras are superb, they don't seem to support the lower end of the market as much as they used to. The A33 is a superb camera though. Also, Sony G lenses are of reasonable build quality, and have nice glass. There is also a range of Carl Zeiss lenses (superb, possibly unbeatable glass) endorsed by Sony for those who are bonkers....and rich. Good, but not a cheap option anymore. Canon is the brand of choice for most collages, schools and Unis. This is because as a rule, Canon is the cheapest system. You will get the most MPs and biggest sensors for your buck here. However, the price comes at a price.... The build quality on the majority of Canons is lightweight to say the least, so you have to buy into the high-end models if you want to abuse it. A good range of lenses for different levels of photographer. Nikon are another of the DSLR market leaders. In terms of abuse, these cameras are the strongest. The low end models are not built to withstand much, but are better made than their Canon counterparts. You don't have to get that much higher up to get the magnesium-alloy bodies. The lenses here are the best established for quality, the glass has a good reputation, the build of the lenses is super as well, and can take a lot of abuse. Finally, Panasonic is not a major player, but do make a range of DSLRs. These are the most compact DSLRs, are reasonably well built and are full of jingles. I wouldn't recommend them for the serious professional, as the lens range is not great, though panasonic do a lot of work with Leica, so the glass is good. If you are going to buy an SLR and stick it on auto most of the time, get a Panasonic, it has intelligent auto (which is a massive improvement).
