A Member Told Me That The Askville From Amazon Is No Longer In Use

Exchange comcast modem/router with one from Amazon?

Comcast gave us a nice wireless router/modem for our house. However, it costs $7 a month. I am wondering if i can order a wireless router/modem and take the Comcast one back. In under a year, i will break even.

However, i am wondering if that will work. I was looking for something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SUR [...] =pd_cp_e_2

I plan to then buy a wireless router for the house for things like laptops, ipods/iphones.

The modem/router Comcast gave us requires a coaxial cable, telephone line, and power. I just want to replace the Comcast one with a one-time purchase and save some money in the long run.

If anyone has any help, comments, questions please share. I am not good in terms of networking.

How can I get my employee discount for shopping on Amazon?

The discount code is 10% on purchases up to $1,000 (a net $100 discount). The discount is only on items being sold by Amazon.com, not a third party seller. And don't bother asking Jeff B. at the all-hands if you can get a Prime membership instead - the answer is no, just like the dozen times before that some newbie asked. The code will be in your employee profile. Copy the code.At checkout, add the code like it's a gift card or discount code, then complete checkout. You should see the discount applied on the right side where shipping and handling are displayed. The code will then persist in your account until you use it all or the code expires.

What are the differences between Askville and Quora?

Askville went through a major downgrade two years ago and didn't change the information on Wikipedia.  It was virtually castrated.   Then about two months ago the site was terminated and a new site of the same name was put up without the amazon url.  A new simpler url address was created at  http:/www.Askville.comAs of yesterday, without warning, and after telling its users that A9 was busy creating the upgrades requested during Alpha and then Beta, and working on the many bugs in the new system, the moderators simply announced it was going down in a couple of hours.  There was NO warning to any members, some of which had remained members in hopes of its promised revival, and had been members for up to 7 years.Askville is no more.  It was reduced to an ultra- simplistic site, with very little interaction between questioners and those who answered,  and not very rewarding to it's users.  Only A9 and Amazon know why they doomed Askville. It was a very popular site only a couple of year ago before the first removal of the game paradigm and comments, let alone the formatting which was also completely removed without any explanation. After that it was apparently doomed despite constant promises by A9/Amazon that a bigger better Q & A site was being developed. The light went out at 6pm Pacific time I was told.http://askville.typepad.com/askv...

What's the best Amazon customer service number that will get me to a real person?

I still know the number by heart: 866–216–1072, if you’re in the U.S.However, rather than call the number blindly, you would save a lot of time and frustration by logging into your account at Amazon’s Contact Us Page and following the steps there, answering all questions accurately. This will make sure that you are directed to someone who’s qualified to help you with your specific issue.I only say this because I can’t count how many times I received calls about Kindle devices, Fire tablets, AWS, and other things with which I wasn’t qualified to help. Those calls I had to transfer, resulting in longer holds for my callers.Addendum: I'm going to add one more thing to this answer: NEVER trust any resource other than a company's official site for contact information. I bring this up because some scumbag spamming scammer just tried to add an edit to my answer with a link pointing to their fake AF Amazon support site with a fake AF customer service phone number! I've already reported the Quora account, and I've reported the site to Amazon! Quit ripping people off and go get a real job.

How do I handle an Amazon order that doesn't arrive?

Agree with Tad Campbell. Check the tracking and see what happened. For example, I once had a package that was delivered to "Main office", in my apartment complex. The main office in our complex do not accept parcels. Amazon sent another, immediately and asked that I return it if it ever turned out.Another package (over $500) said it had been delivered to somewhere in Malibu. They sent another, no questions asked.(I suspect if it happened to you more than once or twice, they'd start wanting a signature on delivery).

I suspect that I am not receiving all the royalties from my biography (The Crazy Life of a Kid From Brooklyn) from Amazon. When I contact them they give me convoluted answers. Has anyone else encountered this?

Do you have an agent?  Your agent should be able to straighten this out.  Otherwise, consider hiring a lawyer, but then again, it would be hard to justify hiring a lawyer for the small amount of royalties generated by Amazon sales.  Google gets answers a lot faster than Quora.  "Askville by Amazon" came up on the search results.  Here are two answers I got when I Googled your question:1) You have to contact seller support, 1-866-216-1072  2) Kindle Direct Publishing authors are paid monthly by Electronic Funds Transfer to a bank account or mailed a check approximately sixty days following the end of the month which sales occur.Payments are issued when an account has a positive balance of $10 or more for EFT, or the balance reaches $100 or more for check payments.

How many baseballs are used in an MLB season?

According to NBC's "Ask Liz" column, MLB says an average of 65 balls are used per game. There are 30 teams playing each other in 162 games each. So there are (15 x 162 = 2,430) games per season, (you have to divide the total number of teams by two, since each game has two teams in it). That equals: (2,430 x 65) baseballs used per season, which totals 157,950 baseballs used during games per regular season.Update, Dec. 2011: On p 192 of the paperback edition of his book, "The Baseball: Stunts, Scandals, and Secrets Beneath the Stitches," Zack Hample estimates the answer to this question. Editing out his addition of spring training and post-season games, his answer to the original question would be: 196,800 baseballs. This is 25% higher than my estimate above, and is based on the number of baseballs each team rubs down with Lena Blackburne Rubbing Mud. Note that it represents the number of balls prepared for use, not used in actual games. I'm guessing that prepping 25% more than needed would be overkill, but assuming his number is right, if we split the difference the number would be about 177,375 baseballs per season. Finally, he says that MLB uses a TOTAL (including batting practice, etc.) of about 1.26 million baseballs per year. At his estimate of $6.79 per ball, that's $8.56 million per year for baseballs (Rawlings says "Thank you").
