A Song Where The Chorus Is Like You Don

What is that 80's song that has a chorus of "woah oh oh oh"?

There have been so many good answers already (probably it really was Howard Jones’ “Things Can Only Get Better” that you were thinking of).But one other likely contender is Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer.” Though admittedly it’s more of a “whoa whoa whoa WAH oh.”There’s also “The Right Stuff” by the New Kids on the Block, with its “Woah oh AH oh oh, woah oh oh oh.”There’s also of course the New Kids’ “Whoa oh oh AH oh” in “Hangin’ Tough.”On the even less mature side, there’s the amazing Cyndi Lauper song “The Goonies ‘r Good Enough” which features a prominent “Why ai oah oh OH!”Cyndi also got some SOLID “woah oh oh OH!”s in on “We Are the World.”There’s also Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” though the “Woah oh uh A oh/woah oh oh OH ohhhhh ohhhhh ohhhh ohhh…” doesn’t come in until like 3:16 (based, no doubt, on John 3:16).There’s also Tones on Tail’s “Go,” which maybe could be misremembered as “woah oh oh oh,” though it’s really “ay yai yai yai yai yai yai-yai ohhh..”Of course, if you’re misremembering the decade by a few years, you could be thinking of the Talking Heads “Pull Me Up,” with its “whoa oh oH OH/ Woah OH OH OOOOH!”There’s also the amazing video for Chicago’s anthem for stalkers “Stay the Night,” which features Peter Cetera deservedly injured and harassed by cops. Like with Madonna’s tune, he doesn’t really hit the “woah AH oh oh/woah AH ohhhhh” until the end, around minute 3:55. The weird thing about living in Los Angeles is that I used to live on the street where all this shit was happening. No wonder girls were scared to park on my block:Was it a sleazy glam metal song? Because Axl gets in a solid round of “whoa oh OH oh oh oH OH oh oh whoa AH oh AH oh AH oh… CHA!” in “Welcome to the Jungle.”For that matter, are you sure it wasn’t more of a Wicked Witch of the West’s guards’ “Woah EEE oh, OOHHH ohhh?” LL Cool J was all about that.Okay, I’m gonna stop now. But it’s hard to put this away, because I just KNOW that I’ll be humming songs to myself at work all day until I come up with another PERFECT response to this that isn’t Howard Jones or Simple Minds. And then I’ll probably be so sad and forlorn that I’ll just get down on my knees and say “Woah oh oh oh!!!!”

What is this song..?

Iris By The Goo Goo Dolls

Verse 1

And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
Verse 2

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
Chorus

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
Verse 3

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything seems like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know your alive

Chorus

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
Chorus

I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

What male r&b/soul singer has a fairly recent song w/ the chorus "I want you, but I want you to want me too?"

im pretty sure i know what you're talkin about.... if so the song im thinking of DOES sample a Marvin Gaye track. Its a song by the Avila Brothers called " I Want You" on their debut album "The Mood: Soundsational." All of the songs on the album aren't quite like this one, but it still a unique, grooveable album. its eclectic and fuses together funk, jazz, neo- soul, and hip hop. it took me a little while to pinpoint this song too. but i think this is probably the song you're talkin about..... try takin a look at their myspace to see if it sounds like the track..... hope this helps!

How do you write a song that tells a story?

In my opinion, a good song is always a journey and in some way a story. For example it can take you through a relationship like, you're together in the first verse, you grew cold in the second verse, you end the relationship in the bridge. Or it can take you through time like: (1st verse) when I was young I was so lost, and so I started selling arms, (2nd verse) by the time I was 30 I made a fortune and (3rd verse) I'm old and staring blankly into the fire, thinking of all the people, who died with the help of my business. So basically, 1) You should have a story, or simply have something to tell. In my experience having something to tell contributes greatly to the quality of the song and also writing becomes much easier.2) You should decide where to start (Example: I was playing Cops and Robbers, dreaming of a decent gun)3) You should decide, where you finish (Example: regretting all the people shot with the help of guns you sold)4) You decide, how you get from start to finish, in order to show the story in it's full (Example 1: mentioning time and aging from a child to a senile arms dealer Example 2: developing the song through relations to other people, like your father was proud you're such a patriot with all these guns, your wife never fully accepted the way you make a living, your grandchildren stopped talking to you, because they considered you a butcher). You could use lots of ways to develop the song. Some of the paths are time, place, people, seasons, attempts at doing something, the intensity of feeling or just the storyline as it is. Don't be afraid to experiment! So think of a story and go show it to the world!
