What is the difference of study course between A levels in Fine Art and A levels in Textiles?
The teacher wants me to do Art and design (Textile) instead of the course that I want which is Art and Design (Fine Art) because my portfolio shows skills with textiles more than drawing skills.. But I'm not convinced because I don't want to learn about Textiles and types of textiles.. I want to learn about colours, tones and how to make expressive paintings using other materials like wool for example but don't want textiles to be the focus in all of my work.. I've done the assignment that she asked from me which is sketching fruit. I haven't shown it to her yet.. What do you think I should do/say to convince her to accept me to do Fine Art instead of Textiles?? I need to know more about the crucial differences between the two courses. The explanation of the two courses seems to be similar and quite vague! PS. I don't have any GCSE.. Just a portfolio

Pattern making - how can I figure out the grain lines?
I have been sewing for several years, so I understand the importance of grain lines. I enjoy designing my own patterns, but have run into the problem of making dresses, etc. that simply don't hang right - because my homemade patterns don't have those handy arrows that I can line up with the selvedge! Are there any tips for how various pattern pieces should be aligned? My current project is a paneled sheath dress, and the fabric I'm using is relatively expensive so I'd rather not depend on trial-and-error to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
