Does an external laptop cooling fan really cool down the laptop?

As far as i can tell from my personal experience it does great work! My laptop this summer needed to clean it ’s cooling system because of the dust inside the fan circuit. This case caused high temperatures and suddenly started to power off randomly while i could hear the fan work real loud for some minutes. I looked at the CPU temperature and it was really high!!! I had to tear down my machine so i can clean it very carefully and apply some thermal compound on CPU-GPU! Unfortunately i was away from my tools because of vacations. So.. I did what i could do: I blew with my mouth through the cooling holes carefully to help a little the situation. I Also used a vacuum cleaner to absorb some extra dust. Machine stopped to power off but it was still hot and the fan was working on high speed. I order this external laptop cooling fan base that i found here. After i put my laptop up on this base everything was better! Temperature fall down (about 5 -7 C ) and everything was much stable and noiseless until i returned from my trip and take care the main problem!!! So to conclude YEEES!!! It works very well and really improves laptop better thermal results!!!

Need some help judging PC temperatures (readings from speedfan)?

First off, my system specs:
CPU: i7 920 (not OC'd)
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X58
GPU: GTX 460
RAM: 6g OCZ DDR3 (don't know the full specs off the top of my head)
Case: Antec DF85 (one of the top fans is broken)

Now for the idle temps, all of these were measured by Speedfan with ambient room temp at roughly 30C:
GPU: 42C
System: 50C
CPU: 51C
AUX: 57C
HD1: 38C
HD0: 36C
CPU: 52C (?.. second one?)
MB: 50C
NB: 57C

What worries me the most are the NB and AUX temperature. Everything else seems reasonably normal. I've heard that the AUX reading can sometimes be bogus in Speedfan and I'm not even sure what it's measuring.
I ask because it feels like my PC is slowing down a tad and lagging when I play games. I just started up Diablo 3, played around in the auction house for a bit and it was stuttering just a bit. I then checked the temps in Speedfan and they were pretty much the same as in load, so I'm wondering if any of these are high enough to already cause stuttering off the bat.

What's the difference between "CPU FAN" socket, "CPU OPT" socket, and a "SYS FAN" socket on motherboard?

Question:What's the difference between "CPU FAN" socket, "CPU OPT" socket, and a "SYS FAN" socket on motherboard? The CPU FAN header is exactly what it says. A typical PC would have a single CPU and a heatsink mounted on top of it with a fan. That is where you would plug in the fan. The reason why that header is important is because it will detect whether your fan is running are not. If it detects the fan is not running or not running properly, it will shut down your system (or refused to start your system) to protect your CPU from overheating. The CPU OPT stands for CPU optional. Typically, this is the header that you would use to connect some type of wiring for a liquid cooling system. For example, I have two pumps running my liquid cooling (two separate loops). Each one of these pumps has a single wire that I can plug into the CPU OPT header. Although I don’t use this feature because I want my cooling pumps to run at full speed. However if I decided to plug those connectors into the motherboard, it would probably allow me to control the speed of the pumps from the motherboard which brings me back to the CPU FAN.Most gaming motherboards will allow you to control the speed of the heatsink fan that is connected to the CPU FAN header. The reason for this is that if you are not using the computer under heavy load, you can reduce the speed of the fan and therefore reduce the amount of noise coming from your system. There is more than one name for SYS FAN. Asus refers to them as chassis fans or CHA-FAN. I have heard of other motherboards refer to them as case fans. Regardless of what name you call it, these are the headers you use to plug in the fans that are used to cool your enclosure or case.As motherboards become more sophisticated, the headers on the motherboard take on more specialization. I just recently purchased the latest 270 motherboard, an Asus Maximus IX Formula. In addition to CPU_FAN, CPU_OPT, and 3 CHA_FAN headers, it also has the following:You will notice that all of the headers are 12 W and 1 A except for the W_PUMP+ and the H_AMP which are 36 W and 3 A. You can control the speed of all of them from the motherboard except for the AIO_PUMP+ and the W_PUMP+.

Which processors are compatible with my laptop?

Changing the processor in a laptop is basically impossible. You can pay for a professional to open it up, and I guess if your old one was broken put a new processor of the same model in, but that would be extremely expensive for what its worth. The components of a laptop depend on eachother. First you would need a processor using the same socket type as your satellite (which uses an old celeron from intel, which is definitely not compatable with the AMD processor you're looking at. Even if you did find an improved processor of the same socket type, it would require more power to run, so you would also need to replace the power system, which I've never heard of being done unless you're a hardcore hobbyist who loves to mod laptops with lost of spare money on hand. Upgrading laptops is basically impossible.

Can I wire a 12-volt car fan to a wall outlet?

I know everyone says no and don’t. But you can. Not directly though. If your aim is to use the car fan (Running on DC (Direct Current)), to the house electricity (Which runs AC(Alternating Current)), you can achieve it by using a Power Converter.POWER CONVERTER works by converting AC to DC. All you need is to get a converter with an output of 12V.These converters are used in all electronic products in homes and offices. Computers run on DC. They use adapters, that have a converter inside to convert AC power to DC that is passed to power the laptop.Microwaves, Smart TVs, Radios, Flat screen TVs, Air conditioners, and lots of other home appliances use power converters. And they are very cheap and available in most electronic stores.Only be sure to get a 12V output Power Converter. Anything with less output, the fan won’t work efficiently, and more may cause damage to the fan.

How do I use a desktop CPU to give additional processing power to a laptop?

Hello,You cant have the cpu towers processor into your laptop because the socket wont support it, or too less power will be given to the processor, undervolting and killing the processor. But there is one way in which you can use your PC like a cloud server, install a low end operating system that consumes less power, like linux distributions then conncet the PC. You can use this software to perform tasks parallel with each otherIf you have a lot of PC’s laying at home, you can Create your own super computer, by joing all if them togethe. Why is my CPU not even starting?

There are so many things that could be the cause. The simplest and sometimes often overlooked is this - is the computer plugged in? Or if it's plugged into a surge suppressor, is the surge suppressor tripped or turned off?If the actual CPU gets too hot it could have become damaged, they MUST remain cool. The heat sink many have become detached or the CPU fan may have failed. Another cause of damage to a CPU is an electrical spike. You should always have your computer plugged into a reliable surge suppressorIf the computer gets jarred it is possible sometimes, though rare, for the CPU to come loose from the motherboard. It would need to be resecured.. Those are just a couple of reasons why your computer may not boot.
