About How Tall Will My Lab/pit Mix Get

How Big Will A Lab/Pit Get.?

This is my pitador. (he is so much more than just a mutt! LOL) He is 2 1/2 yrs old and his weight is between 77-80 lbs. He is solid muscle! He isn't very tall, although he is taller than your average pit bull but he is wide and "stocky". Some people look at him and think he is a lab and some think he is a pit but a lot of people see the mix in him.

It is difficult to determine the adult size beings that anyone who would breed a mutt probably doesn't have well bred dogs to begin with. So my dog could be a lot bigger than yours (he is bigger than every other pit/lab we've met...the others we have met have been closer to 65-70 pounds, one was only 55 lbs) but he was probably bred using a bigger lab and/or pit bull.

My dog has more of a mellow pit bull personality. He looooooves children and always wants to say hi to them and give kisses. He is only medium energy. We go to the dog park at least 5 days a week and at least one 30 minute walk per day. He will play hard for a few minutes upon arriving at the park and then end up just walking around and hanging out with his buds.

I adopted him from a shelter. I knew I wanted to get a dog that had no other chance to be adopted based simply on his looks. Black dogs suffer from black dog syndrome and are most often over looked and the most euthanized. Pit bulls/mixes are overwhelming the shelters because they are so overbred and the media has made it so that many people don't want to even get to know the truth. Most people want small dogs. They think, the smaller, the better! They want to fit them in their purse! So, he had these 3 strikes against him and I knew he was the one for me. With 4 hours left on his "clock" I submitted my application. He is the joy of my life. Everyday I thank God for bringing this dog into my life. So easy to train, super affectionate and just genuinally sweet. My dog has taught me so much about life. I hope your dog brings you as much happiness as mine has brought me.

Best wishes.

How much should we sell our black lab/pit bull mix pups for? Both full bread!?

What does your local rescue charge for their neutered & vaccinated puppies?
That figure should be a good guide price for your Labrador x American Pit Bull Terrier {if that is the Bully breed you meant}.

Screen potentially homes carefully & ask them why they are interested in this partiuclar mix & what they plan to do with the dog. At the moment there are too many puppies for too few homes, so you will be fortunate to place them all in good homes, even if you charge a realistic price.

There is no predictability with regard to temperament, appearance & characteristics with cross bred puppies & purchasers should be aware that each puppy could inherit different breed characteristics from the sire & dam & be capable of handling them.

Is a Lab/Pit mix a good pet to have?

For six years and counting it has been great to have Moonshine, a lab/pit mix I found as a puppy in a parking lot. He is the easygoing, quiet dog of my two dogs, the first a high energy Australian Kelpie named Maile. Even though he grew heavier with more muscle than Maile and seemed to challenge her one time, Moonshine has long accepted Maile as the alpha dog of my home.Moonshine is admired by ladies who gush at how cute he is and by men who suggest I should breed him. I never planned to have puppies though and got Moonshine sterilized first, then Maile.Of the two dogs, my lab/pit mix is by my side often while roaming open areas and sleeps tight against me at night. He is an unforgettable companion to me and friendly to all people. But I have to keep him leashed around dogs he does not know because of his occasional streak of animal aggression.I manage this lab/pit Moonshine with equal amounts of patience and common sense. Still he brings me complete joy every day.

Should I find a new home for my lab/pit mix who attacked my much smaller terrier mix, almost killing her?

First I’d contact your Vet and have your dog checked out thoroughly for pain sources. Could be something going on. Who knows? I had to rehome a little yapper years ago when we brought home a kitten and a Beagle-Walker hound that she absolutely did NOT take to. It was HER house! NOT! She was a Pomeranian-Chihuahua. Very prissy and very temperamental. I placed her with a lady who was actually looking for a dog like her for HER daughter up in N.Y. who was going to treat her like a Princess and take her to work and it worked out beautifully. She was spoiled at our house by my daughter but she moved out. Effy went down from there. Sometimes that happens. If you do have to rehome the pooch, PLEASE don’t dump it at a shelter! They’ll put it down for space. Find a group to foster it or make sure you find a trustworthy adopter. Make sure it goes to a good home.

How do Lab/Pit Bull mixes interact with other dogs?

Unless they have a behaviour problem dogs of any breed do the social sniffing of each other’s rear ends and other bits. My current dog is only eight months old and when we go up to some dogs he will roll onto his back which is a gesture indicating he is submissive. At the dog park he plays with any and all of the other dogs, he is certainly not the dominant one. Once he became very angry when another dog came very close when he had a nice bone. Yet my friends and I have always made a point of taking food and bones away from him while he is enjoying them just so he is accustomed to this and gets used to it without anger and growling.

Is my "lab/pit" mix growing accordingly?

An actual APBT is only supposed to be around 45 pounds, while you'd expect the Lab to be at least 60.

My guess is that the breed mix is a guesstimate and sure, it could be wrong!

Yes, early illness and malnutrition can influence the ultimate size, but so can the actual breed mix, which you will never be sure that you know.

When I got my pup, she was 6 mos and 14 pounds. I was told she was a Lab mix. This weight is TINY for a 6 month old Lab though! Here's a pic of her the day I brought her home (and yes, she has a mange issue which is why her ears look a little funky): http://s874.photobucket.com/albums/ab310...

She gained 3 pounds a week until she hit 42 pounds. (Your dog is gaining at nearly that rate!) Once she had access to enough high quality food, she just kept on gaining! Here she was at 18 months(getting a little chubby here--wasn't sure when to cut her food back with no adult weight to aim for and I thought she was a Lab X): http://s874.photobucket.com/albums/ab310... and at 3 yrs, where you can really see the pit in her: http://s874.photobucket.com/albums/ab310...

She is 19 inches at the withers and 42 pounds. She was full sized in height and weight by 10 months, although her head and body kept filling out for another few months.

Like you, I can only guess at her true breed mix. She's small for a Lab x, but she's just about dead-on for a TRUE pit mix(not one of those monstrosities people wrongly call a pit), although she has a very long body (not square) for a pit. I suspect she is a mix of mixes.

If your vet is happy with your dog's progress and health, then everything is fine. The dog has been gaining at an average rate of 2 pounds per week (and probably more than that once out of the hospital) which is wonderful given his history. Good luck with Taz! :) Sounds like he's back on track!

Have a pit/ black lab mix. Aggressive?

Kristin xVx

seriously.
having a bad day?..
if you feel like a moron saying that then dont. As for her "silly" name, she was a rescue, was abused thus her being a tad bit mean and that was the name the other people gave her, she wouldnt come to any other name.
He looks like a lab. so people dont scream and run when they see him...
I have been exposed to this breed, and i have heard they are a dominant breed, thus my question.
and NO my family does not go crazy when he bits nips, puppies go through the teething stage an do that. its normal.

As for my IQ, im fine ok

your the one who has to go around wasting peoples time and putting them down as you are just to feel better. now thats sad.

but what can i do? people like you exist :)

BTW
Thank You all who have been helping me, I am getting really good advice from you all !!

How do i get rid of dry skin on my lab / pit mix? any ideas?

SHE IS ALWAYS SCRATCHING. I GIVE HER A BATH TWICE A WEEK AND I USE OATMEAL SHAMPOO AND LEAVE IT ON HER FOR ABOUT 10 MIN. THE RINSE REAL GOOD. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG!?
