a discrete graphics card never share memory from the system RAM.if it has available 4098 memory that does no mean that it is using it from your system memory.only integrated graphics cards like to share the memory with system ram.no games utilise more than 1 GB memory on graphics card. this extra memory is just available for the card to use if it is needed which it won't. you are using the full amount of memory you have.it is not borrowing anything.don't worry. Is 3gb of memory/ram good?
Case in point: I bought a laptop 27 months ago, with 3gb ram, centrino 2ghz dual core, 120gb (advertised) hd and nvidia 8600GM (256mb). It plays most games beautifully. Of course Crysis lags on the lowest settings, but games such as CounterStrike Source, Half Life 2 and WoW run on max settings with no lag. UT3 only lags with all settings on max, but on normal settings its fine. So in short, 3Gb of RAM is plenty. My main bottle neck is the graphics card (256mb), then processor. Id recommend at least a 1Gb graphics card, I recently bought a 1Gb ATI 4670 for $95 AUS and it blew me away. A dual core is a must these days, anything 2.4ghz and above, or any quad core, will do fine. As for hard drive space, I bought an external 1Tb drive, but I do a lot of programming, photoshop/graphics design and music composition, as well as having a truckload of pc games. But anything over 250gb should be fine. The speed of the HD is not really a factor as all modern games will load as much as they can into RAM first, which 3gb is plenty, and you will see no slow down, trust me. In short, 3gb of ram is enough, and is more than enough for day to day tasks such as internet/word processing.
