About Smartserve Validity

Why can't you use your Ontario health card as valid ID?

My understanding is that it can never be used as valid ID because it was always intended to be kept private. Medical information is private and your OHIP card is meant exclusively for access to the medical health system in Ontario. Agencies CAN accept it as a means of determining your identification, but they can NEVER request it to determine your identity.

Why is a burn from 100 degrees C steam  more severe than a burn from water at 100 degrees C?

Even at the same temperature, steam and boiling water don’t contain the same amount of energy. Water has a high heat of vaporization—it takes 40 kilojoules per mole to get water to boil into steam after it reaches boiling temperature, five times the energy needed to bring it from freezing to boiling temperature. This is because once you get water to the boiling temperature, you still must overcome the relatively strong hydrogen bonds that hold it together as a liquid. This also means that when steam hits your flesh and condenses, it releases the same heat of vaporization—five times the energy needed to bring freezing water to a boil—so it causes far more damage.Besides that, it’s wrong to assume that steam and boiling water have the same temperature. At atmospheric pressure, steam can exist at temperatures much, much higher than the boiling point, and under pressure, can be hotter still. They used to do a demo at a nuclear power plant in which a piece of insulation is removed from a superheated steam line. When a straw broom is held up to the pipe, it bursts into flames due to radiated heat. Such steam is far, far hotter than boiling water, and is instantly fatal to any human. If you like science, you might enjoy my free award-winning scifi sampler.

Does Ontario's 19 minimum drinking age apply to Americans? Will bars not serve Americans and how are they portrayed by Canadian media?

The drinking age is always whatever the province has decided the age will be. The drinking age in Canada varies between 18 and 19 years of age depending on what province you're in. So as a visitor you would be allowed to drink at the legal drinking age just like everyone else as long as you have legitimate government ID of some sort. As for rowdiness, Americans in particular are not usually a concern from my experience but rowdiness does happen on occasion in any bar no matter the background of the people. It just tends to be something that can happen. If you're looking to avoid being around rowdy crowds look up the places you're going to before you go. Generally I have found most of our bars to be pretty relaxed. As mentioned in other answers here, the media is very similar to that of the US. Our countries are not incredibly different but we do have our differences. You most likely won't have any issues with any media no matter if your an American or not
