Abstract Landcape Artists

How do you paint abstract landscapes?

What you do when doing abstract works is try to take out any superfluous elements. Semiology talks about something called types. Any element has its own subtypes. For example, the type cat has the subtypes two eyes, hair, four legs, tail, etc. The type landscape has many subtypes, so you can choose elements of the type landscape. I use to do abstract works of nature and I use the subtype color, I use the colors of nature and the texture to express my ideas about nature. You could use other elements like the horizon and the colors, and minimize some elements like the mountains but without doing much details, no trees or plants. Or you can do trees but just using the lines of the trees without any leafs. The less details you use, the more abstract it is. Abstraction is the action of simplification of forms, go to the essence of any given object. So use that idea, simplify as much as possible but using the principal elements of a landscape. That doesn't mean it has to look like a landscape but it has to be close to it. Think what elements make a landscape, like the one I said, horizon. I believe almost any landscape has the division between air and land, but think about other common elements. Not all landscapes has the same, but some do, and with those is enough.

Whats the big deal with abstract art??

What is soo appealing about a painting that looks like it was painted by a blindfolded 3 year old. Its nothing more than a few random streaks and paint brushes. There doesnt seem to be any imagination or logic to it like a mona lisa or something yet people are willing to pay thousands of dollers for it.
A friend of mine once told me that he went to Sweden or something where he was invited to an art gallery. He saw this huge 3mx10m canvas painting on display . It was nothing more than two colours (Red and Blue) running down vertically and everyone there was looking at it with extreme fascination and wonder. It was selling for like 3 million dollers i mean WTF is that. N just like him I laughed my head off when i heard this.

Can somebody tell me what the big deal with this stuff is. Why does an elephant or cat get to paint a few scribbles with a brush and sell them for like 3000 bucks while real artists who went to school have a hard time selling their art,

Why is abstract art important?

just an opinion. yeah, opinion. abstract is the art of self expressing without any use given nature and element. it always comes from inside of the artists. as long as there are feeling and expression inside the artist, there will be always and abstract painting he or sh can make. unlike if you are a landscapist, you just copy the landscape and not creating your own. abstract art of any style is the most creative and unique art of all.

in other ways, it is very intriguing and enjoyable to see an abstract. looks always a puzzle, trying to decode the artists feelings from his renditions.

:) abstracts are always open for opinions, criticism but cannot be affected by them. strong art. :)

Abstract/Modern art appreciation: HELP?

Check out Italian Futurism, especially Boccioni, Carra, & Severini. Also read the Futurist Manifesto by F.T. Marinetti.

The Italian Futurists are interesting as an art phenomenon for several reasons. Reading Marinetti's manifesto, you see their concerns, namely the reproduction of the speed of changes at the turn of the century; their work captures the sense of movement, the feeling of the breathlessness of the modern pace of life.

An even more interesting facet of their work is its sinister political implications: The Futurists were instrumental in providing support for Mussolini and his burgeoning Fascist movement. It is one of the few times in history--perhaps the only time--when art has anticipated, influenced, and catalyzed a political movement. This is not to lay responsibility for Fascism at the Futurists' feet, but their anticipation of it and support for it cannot be denied. A similar movement, also right-wing in flavour, was the English Vorticist movement of Wyndham Lewis.

Reading the Futurist manifesto, one sees in embryo the ides that would later crystallize into Fascism. A German modern artist, George Grosz, correctly gauged the relationship between the two movements. Grosz is another modern artist worth checking out, his corrosive canvasses a document of the Weimar Republic, a "society without a soul."
