A/c Unit Outside Wiring Chewed On

Dog chewed thermostat wire on outside ac unit?

I found the thermostat wire on the outside unit completely mangled, I cut out the damaged part of the wire and spliced a new one in but it doesn t kick on at all. I couple forums said to check the 3a fuse on the inside unit.I checked every where and I couldn t find any fuses at all, my next guess is that the transformer is blown. Any ideas? It s a 2003 rheem rgph 05eauer

What is the small wire for on my A/C unit outside?

Thermostat wire is what you nipped.
If you ONLY nipped the outer coating you should be ok. But if you nipped the TWO wires and they are exposed. They can touch and short out. This will blow the 3AMP fuse in the furnace inside the house and neither the heat nor the air will work.

If you are going to repair the wire, make sure you kill the power at the furnace via the breaker 1st! If the wires touch you will cause a short and blow the fuse as I mentioned. This is a very a cheap fix, and yes electrical tape will work just fine. Just make sure it rapped well.

My dog chewed off the black insulated wire that connects the airconditioning thing to our house?

whats weird is that i think i can connect the wire to the one end but i cant connect it to the other end. The other end doesnt look like it has the same form of the wire as the wire my dog cut off. its just thick blue with many tiny copper wires together. here is the picture. http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1201081949pn3.jpg the thermostat wire yet has a very thin end and also very sharp. any solutions?

My dog ate the electrical wire for my air conditioning unit does anyone know how I can fix this myself?

Electricity is something that shouldnt be played with..
Making sure you have the right wire for the job and also if anything has been pulled loose inside the unit, would be my worry.

I would call an electrician.. look in the local papers.
Most do a free call out quote .. at least that will give you an idea on how much you might need... you might get supprised it might be a quick $50 bucks .

I wouldnt replair something like that just in case it causes an electrical fire.. you dont want to burn down the house.

My dog ate my stat wires on my ac unit!?

If it is a straight cool unit just kill the power and cut off the bad section and rewire color to color. It should be a white and red wire very small. If it was the power (240 volts) you would have breakers tripped and scorch marks, it should be in conduit. These should be the low voltage wires anyway. T-stat wires dont need conduit for the building codes here. This is a very common service call right behind my son hit it with the weedeater. Turn power on and try it. it doesnt always short out the transformer.2 out of three I rewire just the bad section and it works fine.

Dog ate electrical wire connection connecting power from house to outside A/C Unit.?

Turn off the breaker to your AC in the electric panel. If you have enuff wire from where the dog chewed it up try getting some wire nuts and wire nut them together (color coordinated of course.) That should have it working. But you need to call an electrician as soon as possible so they can come and replace the wire.

Do mice and rats often gnaw electrical wires and get electrocuted or do they know it's dangerous and stay away from the wires?

Having both pets; mice and rats. Rats are the smarter of the two. Rats do reason, its been proven. If a rat knows, another rat got hurt, doing something, they do avoid it. Like if a rat eats food that was bad, and dies, they stay away form it. Why they sample food that is new to them, to test it, in small amounts. I’ve known my rats to get shocked, eating power cords, then, once they get older, they stop eating power cords. Never had a rat, that didn’t try it once, and then stop. Now, internet cords, headphone cords, and things like that… THEY LOVE IT lol. But, they are far smarter then people realize. They will even help a distressed rat, that is not part of their group. Also amazing, because, that means, rats, have an idea of self, as they can see other rats in need. AND, they “talk” in ultra high tones out side of the human ear. Rats, are also very clean, its just the conditions they life in, that gave them the image of dirty- bad rap. They are friendly, loyal, smart, and very sweet. Smart as a cat, and loving like a dog.
