Accidentally Touched Toxic Chemical

I accidentally licked some acetone off my fingers?!?

If you have pain in the back of your throat it is most likely from a chemical burn. The throat is much more porous than your skin so it is easier to burn. The good news is it will heal on it's own. It will probably go away in a few days. If you have severe pain go see a doctor. You might want to lay off the hot beverages or highly acidic beverages. Stick with water or milk until it heals.

My husband had a chemical burn from breathing in some toxic gases. It went away on its own in a week or two. I have been a licensed cosmetologist since 2003 and am very familiar with chemical burns from hair and nail products.

What Would Happen If Someone Touched Plutonium With Their Bare Hands?

Not much. Whether it is depleted or not, the alpha radiation is not strong enough to penetrate the dead layers of skin. Gamma radiation is the dangerous sort. BUT, if there is a cut, abrasion, or any other opening into the body (nose, mouth) then it is extremely harmful. I know a gentleman that was dismantling C141s in the USAF and he was "playing" with the depleted Uranium counterweights. He did become slightly ill, and doctors attributed that to the fact he had scrapes and cuts on his hands and that is how the radiation penetrated his body.

What functional group in your skin that was react when you touch nitric acid?

You are referring to the xanthoproteic test for proteins.
Using 65% nitric acid, the aromatic rings of amino acids like tyrosine and tryptophan are nitrated. The nitro derivate show an intensely yellow color. Because nearly all proteins [eg skin] contain aromatics it is used as a protein-test.

Is dried battery acid dangerous? more info in details?

Actually, there is no acid in an alkaline battery because it is.... alkaline. It has a zinc powder, potassium hydroxide (KOH) and manganese dioxide (MnO2). The potassium hydroxide can leak out (good picture in the link below). The brown substance you saw was probably because the leaking chemical reacted with the metal in the battery compartment.

Trace amounts of this will not hurt you. Both potassium and hydroxide are present in your body naturally. A large amount can hurt you, but simply washing it off with water will do make it harmless.

How toxic is antiperspirant?

Do you apply the spray or the roll-on? With the spray, you're less likely to get it on your hands and everywhere else, reduces your likelihood of touching it. Also, I don't think it's very toxic to accidentally swallow a tiny bit. Say you apply your antiperspirant and just brush your armpit while putting on your shirt (as I have done putting on a bra) and you wipe your hands and later you put them in your mouth and you can taste the antiperspirant.. that's not very dangerous. However, if you were to swallow a large amount, that would be dangerous.
If it makes you feel better, keep some wipes nearby to wipe your hands if you do touch it, but I wouldn't worry too much :)

What happens if you touch Mercury?

it feels funny, actually it feels kinda nice but u must know that mercury shud be handled with caution! its poisonous so u hold some in ur hand u bettter wash hands very well and i wouldnt recommend u really touch!!

its not as harmful as people exaggerate so dont worry u will definately not die if u touch it or nething!

and it doesnt get absorbed in the skin easily!!

also it feels really heavy in ur hand!!

a problem with handling mercury is that it keeps giving of mercury vapours and very long exposures can be of very little harm to you!! so if u just touch mercury it feels coldish and doesnt stick to you making it feel funny!!

when u take ur hand from mercury 99% of it gets pulled out since mercury mercury forces are too strong and they pull out all mercury with it!

so just touch it if u want.........dont play with it WASH UR hands
properly! and dont dare to taste it ...it may be the last thing u do!!
