Can you make a course on the English literature optional for the UPSC?
Yes . Why not. I’ll let you know the pros and cons of choosing Literature as an optional.ProsIt is not a dynamic subject like Political Science and International Relations where you need to keep updating your notes. In Literature, It will be easier for you to keep your notes ready and just keep practising answer writing. In 2016, the topper Ms Nandini had Kannada literature as her optional subject. So it is a myth that Literature subjects aren’t scoring enough. Also, it is always advisable to choose a subject that interests you. If you like reading Literature why not read it as a paper. Pleasure along with preparation makes the work easy and is what an aspirant should aim for.ConsThe positive is the negative here. Its limited scope that is, the static nature of the subject might make it monotonous for the examiner. However, you can improvise and creatively use your writing skills. It has no syllabus overlapping with any of the general studies paper. You will have to prepare it separately. Like in case of history, geography PSIR or sociology, a lot of it overlaps with GS, thus, making it less time consuming. You might not get a proper test series for English Literature. If you are confident with your answer writing skills then you can always go for it.Ultimately it all depends on your strengths and weaknesses. Choose carefully because optional subjects give you an edge in your overall score out of 1750.Happy reading:)

How would you paraphrase the stanzas of the poem Try, Try Again by William Edward Hickson?
This request requires quite a bit of work. The first stanza is saying two things: if you need to learn something: try to learn it, if you hang in there and don't give up, you will ultimately succeed. The second stanza: says that if you attempt something and fail, try again, however there is no shame in not winning as long as you try more than once to win. The third stanza states two points: if something is difficult to do, meet that difficulty with more effort and work "try, try again," and if other people can do something, so can you!

Comparing poems for GCSE 10 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Our teacher made an upside down pyramid and split it into sections, and you just have to cover each section when comparing and contrasting to pieces of writing 1-Structure (person, tense, what kind of poem (e.g. sonnet, petrarchan) 2-Sentences (e.g. minor, exclamatory, declarative, interogative, complex, compound, compound complex) 3-Syntax (word order) 4-Imagery (e.g. metaphors, similies, descriptions) 5-Lexis (lexical sets (set of words of a similar theme) - maybe you could compare if there are any similar lexical sets (sets of words) throughout the two poems?) 6-Phonology (assonance, sibilance, plosive) 7 - Anything other which doesn't fit into any of the above categories Just make sure you go in depth in when comparing the poems, and explain everythings effect, or why it compares or contrasts to the other poem, try to cover a full range of what I mentioned above, so you don't focus to much on one thing and so you have a better chance of gaining higher marks! Hope this helps and good luck with your gcse exams, i'm sure you'll do fine! :)
