Accutane Questions Personal Experiances

Accutane & Anger - *your* experience?

im 17 and omg i swear accutane has changed my life no joke, i used to have acne on my face, back and chest and now its allllll gone... i was on it for 6 months and didn't really see results until the 5th or 6th month. during the 6months i was so moody i would cry and get mad for no reason but i think it was mostly because my face wasn't getting better as fast as i wanted it too. my side effects were joint pain, muscle aches and dry skin (barely), and mood swings. ive been off of it for about 4months and ive only had one or two pimples and my skin is no longer dry and the joint pains went away also and my mood swing went away too. being on accutane is not easy tho and can take a lot out of you but at the end it was so worth it

Accutane: Yes or No? Personal thoughts & experiences.?

DO IT.

You should especially go on it if these other methods are not working for you. I was in the same boat when I was 15 sure the other medications were a temporary fix, but the acne kept coming back. My mom just forbid it when I was 15. Acne can continue into the adult stages, so it's not just a "phase". I am 21, and on month 4 of my treatment with accutane. It is AMAZING. I really wish I would have taken it sooner, I could have prevented less scarring. Basically what accutane does is kill a lot of oil, and bacteria thrives in oil. Your mom shouldn't be so worried, the doctors monitor you every step of the way, and you have to get blood work done. So if anything bad happens while youre on accutane they can lower your dose or stop treatment. They're doctors, they know what they're doing.

The only side effects I've had while on the drug is chapped lips (which everyone gets) and little bumps that will pop up occasionally on my hands. For the chapped lips use aquaphor, its a miracle and will instantly take it away. And if you ever have the bumps on your hands, use cortisone cream, it clears right up. These people on here will provide you with a bunch of horror stories, and they have never taken accutane. My blood tests come back every month, and my doctors say everything is perfect, and I'm on a pretty high dose.I only have 2 months left and I am 100% healthy. So you will be absolutely fine! Don't take anyone else's word whether you should go on accutane or not, except your own. It's YOUR skin afterall, you have to live with it.

Also, you can look at reviews on acne.org about accutane or search for them on youtube...the results will stun you because there are actual pictures and videos through other people's treatment. Just search "Chrislax16" on youtube and the results he had will amaze you.

GOOD LUCK!

Couple of questions about Accutane.?

Accutane is a risky drug. Some people had good results, while other people had bad side effects. There is no way of telling how each person is going to respond to Accutane. Your doctor can't even tell you. Sure, your doctor can prescribe Accutane to you based on your skin condition and current health, but in the end, each person still has to wait to see how the drug is going to interact with their body. The question is, Are you willing to take that risk? Some people have taken Accutane and developed autoimmune disorders, liver damage, and other complications which they will have to deal with for the rest of their life. If you have mild or moderate acne, there is no need to take Accutane. If you have severe cystic nodular acne then you are a good candidate for Accutane. People with severe acne suffer a great deal of emotional pain and low self esteem because the acne is so disfiguring, so the risks that come with Accutane generally does not worry them.

What is your experience with accutane/isotrenin?

I have to agree with what Jose has said. (The guy who answered earlier). Accutane was for me, worth it and everything I could've asked for. During high school, my acne was bad. Like really bad. I had tried everything from the stuff they sell on TV to old magic recipes. Nothing worked. Then we booked an appointment with a dermatologist and he recommended Accutane. We weighed the risks and jumped on board. I ended up drinking tons of water but to be honest, that was never a big issue. I'd played sports all my life so I was always guzzling water anyways. Accutane cleared up my face so well that I couldn't believe it. This was years ago. In fact, between one school photo and the next year's school photo, I looked like a completely different person. I get the occasional pimple here and there and I still used face cleansers. I basically use them once a week for certain “instances”. If I have facial hair, I used an apricot scrub by St. Ives. It's gritty like sand but it almost gives that psychological “if it's gritty, it must be working.” factor. Then there's just a regular oil free face cleanser. Hope this helped. I'm no expert on Accutane but when I saw the question, I had to answer. This question hit home for me.PS, when I was on Accutane, I would experience joint pain in my knees when I'd engage in physical activity every so often. I'm an ice hockey goalie so knee pain isn't fun during a game.

What can I expect when I go on Accutane?

You can expect dry lips (I use Blistex Blissful Butters formula and Aquaphor to combat this), and sore joints if you’re a physically active person. It won’t be as bad as you think, unless you’re on an unusually high dose, or you’re not being monitored properly. The side effects aren’t life altering, but they are there. Be prepared to change your skin routine from that of an acne-ridden person, to that of someone with more mature skin since your skin will be very dried out. The number of products you will try to combat dryness will get expensive till you find something that works. Here’s my current routine:Morning: Wash with Cereve Hydrating Wash, put on Jojoba oil (a-must-have), Cereve A.M. Moisturizer and then Aveeno Overnight Hydrating Facial on areas that are extra dry, like my chin. Then I let it dry before putting on Tarte Tinted Moisturizer / concealer.Evening: Wash with Cereve Hydrating Wash, put on Jojoba oil, Cereve P.M. Moisturizer and then Aveeno Overnight Hydrating Facial ALL OVER. Then I target some areas that aren’t healing with a little bit of Neosporin. Not much, just a little to help with healing and cracked skin.So far, so good though. It’s not been the nightmare I’ve been reading about. Another thing to remember is that after you quit your course, your skin will never be absolutely perfect, but it will never be as bad as it once was. Be realistic with your expectations. I’m certain you will be pleased with the results.Good luck! :)

What do you think of Accutane, the strong anti-acne drug?

I think Accutane is a last resort option. I never took it, though definitely considered it. I would trust Accutane even less than the Pill. The reason I’ve been considering Accutane is because I’ve had acne since I was 13, which is for over 10 years now. I tried herbs, antibiotics (oral and topical), retinoids, steroids, salycylic acid, benzol peroxide, hundreds of different make up brands - nothing except temporary relief came. If you have acne, you know how that feels. So I started looking at different options and found Accutane. The way Accutane works is by reducing the number of sebum-producing elements in your skin. The dryness as a side-effect comes because this is what the drug is supposed to do.So, if you feel like your skin is very, very excessively oily - maybe you should try it. My skin is combination of oily and dry, and the oily parts are not oily to the point where I have to use blotting papers every hour. It’s normal-to-average oily. My skin benefits from mouisturizing. So this is why I think Accutane wouldn’t do much for me.Also, my research shows that people with acne post 18–20 years of age typically suffer from hormonal acne. After dismissing Accutane, I took that as my next cue. I didn’t want to get on the Pill (I think it’s slightly absurd, though helpful), so I started taking Vitex for hormonal balancing. It’s only been a week, and my cystic acne is gone (knock on wood). I’m looking forward to what happens next.Tl;dr - try something else first. It’s a borderline effective drug with way too many side effects.

Can someone please give me advice about Accutane? Does it help acne & OIL? Side-effects? Pros & Cons? THX!?

I tried Accutane for five months and it did a good job in stopping the amount of sebum secreted by my pores and thus making my skin dry, but when i finished using it, i began to get acne again and i found out through trial and error that the food i was eating was causing my infections.

This might be difficult to do, but if you want to have a healthy appearance you must avoid consuming sugar, salt, or other substances alike.

Has anyone experienced a bad psychiatric side effect to taking isotretinoin (Accutane)?

AH! GREAT QUESTION!First of all, of course I am only speaking from my personal experience. I’m in high school. I’m not even close to knowing anything when it comes to anything medical/psychological.But… Accutane changed my life! (in a good way, hence the excitement)I’ll get right to the point of addressing your question to which the answer is no, at least not for me or my 3 friends who have also taken Accutane. Now I will continue with my small, personal advertisement for Accutane.I had tried face wash after face wash after face wash. I scrubbed with Proactive daily. I bought hundreds of dollars worth of the stuff and it helped, but I continued to have terrible acne. So, I signed all the papers (which may seem kinda scary, but really there’s nothing to it) and started Accutane.1st week: No change.4th week: Dry face, but not too bad. Slight decrease in acne.6th week: Very dry face, moisturizer became a definite must in the morning. Acne stayed the same.8th week: Honestly, this is when I started to really struggle with the dryness. I had to apply face moisturizer every 3 hours or so and lots of lip balm. Acne had noticeable decrease though.10th week: Acne continued to improve, but my hands and arms started to have dry skin and small bumps appeared on the tops of my hands. It looked like a rash, but it was not itchy and it did not hurt. Apparently that is a common side effect. Face was still very dry.12 week: Acne has gone down to where I was only getting the occasional pimple. Dryness persisted. At the 12 week mark I had an appointment with my dermatologist who, after looking at me for about two seconds, said I was done with treatment. I still remember the shock I had. I couldn’t believe it. 3 short months was all it took!My face continued to be very dry for the next couple weeks, but it of course went away. My lips, however, remain much dryer post-Accutane than they were before treatment.I get the occasional pimple or red spot now, but I can literally go 2 weeks without the slightest blemish. It improved my life immensely! Acne would ruin my day, but now I don't have to worry. It is expensive and yes, your face will be very dry while you are on the medication. My friend did complain of joint pain while she was on it, but nothing serious. So because of all of this I highly recommend taking Accutane for persistent acne.
