the movie... the series started in 1996 and the movie was made in 1995, they decided that the movie would only become a tv movie (which means it didnt rate very highly) so they would so a tv series, after the series was a hit they released the movie onto video (and now dvd). TMNT started out as a black and white comic made by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in the early eighties. The old ones are the Mirage comics, and they continue to make them today. Image and Archie also made some. After the comics, they started the old cartoon, which lasted into the nineties. They inspired the live action movies. The first came out in 1991 and had two sequels. After the old toon came to a close, there was a large gap where very little happened besides the random comic. But in 2003, they started a new cartoon series that followed the comics. It's still going today, and a new season will be starting in the Fall. Finally, in March 2007 they made another movie, this one in CGI (and personally, it's my favorite). It's tripled the size of the fandom as well. :)
