Adding A Hitch To A 2001 Ford Taurus Se.

How much can my 00' Ford Ranger tow and how much can it haul?

OKEY DOKEY..... Couple items you didn't give were: Are you using a receiver hitch or a bumper mounted ball? do you have a 4x4 or 4x2 and was your vehicle built with the factory installed trailer towing package?

With the limited information...your answer follows:

The 2000 Ranger is capable of towing 2,000 pounds just with the standard rear bumper.

The 2000 Ranger, 3.0L V6 Supercab 4x2 has a maximum payload capacity of 1,620 pounds. (Payload is EVERYTHING you are carying...including yourself, your gear, the stuff in your glovebox, EVERYTHING, etc). The maximum trailer weight your truck is rated to pull is 5,860 pounds.

The 2000 Ranger, 3.0L V6 Supercab 4x4 has a maximum payload capacity of 1,540 pounds (yes, less than the 4x2 because of the added transfer case and front end. The capacity of the truck stays the same...the manufacturer added more STUFF to it, thereby reducing your payload capacity) The maximum trailer weight the truck is rated to pull is 5,620 pounds.

Again, remember that your PAYLOAD is EVERYTHING that was not BASE on your vehicle. So, if you have an XLT. There is probably 100 pounds worth of added electronics, etc. If you have a moonroof...probably another 100 pounds. If it wasn't included on the BASE Ranger XL in 2000, then its considered part of the payload. If you have an automatic transmission, add on an additional 34 pounds. air conditioning adds on 43 pounds, the rear jump seats add on 27 pounds, step bars add on 52 pounds. NUTS, I know.

To figure out how much of the weight of the trailer affects your payload capacity, is fairly simple. 15% of the weight of the trailer is transfered to the truck when using a typical load distributing hitch. (not 5th wheel or gooskneck). So, if your boat (including gas, gear, engine, trailer, and anything else you have in it) weighs 3,000 pounds (i dunno) then your reserve payload capacity has reduced by 450 pounds.

Answer your question? Hope so.

Launching a jet ski with a car?

I'm buying a jet ski for the upcoming summer. I have a 2001 Ford Taurus with a V6 DOHC engine. I know it can tow it, but launching and retrieving on an inclined ramp concerns me, especially when it's going to bet wet. Has anyone had any experience with a car and will i be able to do this?

20 pin wiring harness for '01 Toyota Camry?

I'm installing, well went to install a JVC head unit in a 2001 Toyota Camry 4 door, but didn't get very far. I pulled out the stock head unit and noticed that I need a 20 pin wiring harness, and the one I picked up was labeled 98-present Toyota and Camry was listed on the compatibility sheet; the only problem was that the highest pin set was 15 pin. Does Toyota even make a 20 pin harness? or could I use a Lexus 20 pin harness? I don't want to bypass the harness and wire directly to the head unit if I don't have to, beings that depletes the life of the unit.

What are the symptoms of a bad inner tie rod?

Symptoms of tie rod failure can include clunking or clicking when turning the wheel or while traveling over a bumpy surface, noticeable steering slack (moving the steering wheel left to right when the wheels are straght), vibrations when driving, reduced turning radius either left or right  and a simple way of checking for wear is to turn the wheels to the left of checking the left wheel and to grab the tie rod with both hands and to move it about. If it moves freely then it needs replacing, if not fixed soon complete tie rod failure would release either wheel from any steering input leaving you stranded and in a dangerous situation if it fails at higher speeds.

How do you open the hood of a locked car with a dead battery?

I find it interesting that the answers all say to stick the key in the door and unlock it. It's not that easy. The Volvo V40, and most, if not all post 2000 Volvo autos, as well as most current vw auto group cars, Mercedes, BMW, and several Japanese autos lock and unlock the doors electronically, meaning that they use the power lock solenoid, not linkages to the lock mechanisms. In order to unlock the doors to release the hood latch, one must raise the vehicle and connect a battery charger or jumper cable to the starter + terminal and to the vehicle chassis to activate the electrical system or charge the battery. One must be very careful not to short the positive lead to ground as this may cause damage, and one must also take care to assure that, when the vehicle is raised, it is safely ad properly supported with safety stands and wheel chocks to assure his/her personal safety. It may just be easier/safer to contact a towing company or roadside assistance (if offered through your auto insurance, this is definitely the best way to go) and have them perform the tasks necessary to assist you in releasing the locks to provide you access to the vehicle. Good luck.

How do you get a key made for a lock without another key to model it from?

If you know the “pinning” or the “bitting” of the lock, you can ask a locksmith to cut a key “to code” for you. That information won’t be anywhere on the lock itself, but if you bought the lock from a retail outlet, that information might be in with the paperwork/packaging. For a typical house lock, like a doorknob or deadbolt, this is probably going to be a 5-digit number. If you don’t know and can’t find the bitting, a locksmith would be able to remove the cylinder from the lock and read the bitting from the actual pins.If we’re talking about an automotive lock, the dealership or a dealer-authorized locksmith should be able to cut you a key. You’ll need to provide them the VIN, and probably proof of ownership. If we’re talking about a padlock, then you might be out of luck. If your padlock has a removable cylinder, then a locksmith might be able to remove the cylinder and get the bitting directly from the pins, but this is a rare feature on padlocks. There is almost never useful information on the lock itself, either; anything that looks like a recovery code is probably a model or a part number. The last possibility here is a technique called “impressioning.” Making a key for a lock via impressioning requires at least two suitable key blanks, a few tools, a lot of skill, and a phenomenal amount of patience. It’s almost always more cost-effective to replace the padlock, even if replacing the padlock involves bolt cutters.
