Advice Criticism Personal Experience Opinions

Writers: how do you handle criticism of your work?

How I handle criticism of my work depends on the situation.Did I ask my critique partners for feedback on an early draft of my work? In that case, I’m going to respond to all criticism with gratitude. This doesn’t mean I have to make every change that every critique partner gives, but it does mean I need to consider it thoughtfully. Is the criticism from my agent or editor? In this case, I’d better listen up. If I absolutely disagree with the criticism, I can refuse to make the suggested changes, but I’d better be ready to explain why. In most situations, the agent or editor has identified a real problem, and I need to figure out how to address it.Is the criticism from reviewers and readers? Once a book is published, it’s done. I can’t make any more changes. Really, reviews are readers, not writers. Many authors are advised not to pay attention to reviews at all, although I think few actually follow this advice. If multiple reviewers keep pointing out the same problems, or if the criticism really resonates with you, it’s smart to think about how to improve future books, but otherwise, it’s best to just forget about it.Is the criticism from someone else? Once when I was doing a library event, a man took one look at my cover and declared my book to be a ripoff of some recent horror movie. Even though my book came out before that movie. Even though my book and the movie had nothing in common another than a young male protagonist and supernatural elements. Sometimes people just like to be negative. Ignore them.Of course, negative feedback always stings. Sometimes, I need to complain (in private) to a writer friend who understands what it’s like. Sometimes I need to read negative reviews of other books to remind myself that literary taste is subjective. Sometimes I just need to take a break to relax and be kind to myself. I give more tips on the dos and don’ts of responding to rejection on my site for novelists.

Arabian with DSLD; Advice and Experiences? (Looooong)?

http://www.angelfire.com/bc/curlygait/di...

A good link that offers some info on DSLD, but always check with your vet before following advice on the web. That includes mine, and all of YA!

You'll see that this is a degenerative disease for which there is no cure. You can delay the progress of the disease, but it seems a bit touch-and-go. I'd stop riding except for at the walk, perhaps, 3x a week (again, after veterinary approval). I personally wouldn't ride a horse with dropped pasterns and weak suspensories. I just don't like the idea of a horse suddenly coming out from underneath me, but that's just my opinion.

Id' start soaking the hay for 20 minutes before feeding.
I'd put the horse on Pergolide once daily (again, pending vet confirmation, and ACTH test)
I'd also get the horse off Strategy and put him on Wellsolve Low Starch. You want less carbs for this horse, not more, DSLD aside.

Yes, Cushing's appears to be related to DSLD, according to all the research I've seen. What's endorsed by AVMA or the AAEP, I do not know. I can't quote any studies for you. If the user by the name of "Gallop" stops by, she may have more information.

What is the difference between ADVICE and CRITISICM??????

The difference is in the way you answer the question being asked. Advice is offering a suggestion without any indifference. Criticism, like advice, is offering a suggestion but also adding a personal opinion, either good or bad. Both advice and criticism can be taken either positively or negatively but ultimately, it depends on the person who is receiving the answer.

Who can I show my artworks for a constructive criticism and honest opinion? Are there any websites who have critics for this purpose?

To start with, your friends and acquaintances. It helps if you have a web site that you can point them to. Then, photography websites like photo.net, and camera specific sites like The Ultimate Resource for Everything Pentax and fredmiranda.com: Specialized in Canon . There are many communities that are happy to critique your work; just bear in mind that their critiques may not help you.

Honest opinions about selling Mary Kay??

I am a Mary Kay Sales Director and wouldn't do anything else. I am typically very shy and have never been the "pushy" type and was able to earn two free cars and become a Director working that way. I agree with the previous post...make sure you like your consultant and are willing to work very closely with her as your recruiter. Ask questions BEFORE you sign...this will make your experience a postive one. Ask their thought on inventory, activity level, communication throughout your career (do they contact you on a regular basis or is the ball in your court). The reason I say this is because there are several Directors out there that expect you to start with a large inventory (which is fine if you feel comfortable with that) and will only help you if you are doing a certain amount of activity. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of us out there that do not treat our consultants this way BUT as a brand new recruit you have no idea. I am always open for questions....I've been a consultant for seven years and a Director for 4 of those years. I've worked my business, while working a full time job, while going to school and now as a stay at home mom. I love it and if you have the right people to get you started it's an AWESOME company to work for.

We figured out the boy's name!! Now I need another opinion, someone wanna help? =)?

So, we're TTC number one!
We have been talking about baby girl and baby boy names for days!!

We have a mutual agreement if we have girl, her name will be Elliot Grace (unless baby genie gives me a better middle name ;))
Now, we just figured out a baby boy's name, if we have a boy he will be named Camden James.

Surname 'Murphy'

I kind of want a different way of spelling Camden (Kamden) but I was wondering if spelling it Kamden would be too feminine?

Yes, I realize Elliot was originally a boy's name, but I think it's gorgeous for a girl's name, so please don't criticize against that.

Does anyone know any other ways of spelling Camden?
And a different middle name?
We're content on how it is now, but I'm sure our thoughts will change once it's actually that time. ;)
