Advice For A First Time Target Worker

First day working at Target tomorrow, cashiering?

My actual position is at the cafe in Target but for my first day they have me cashiering. I work a 7 hour shift, will they have me on the register for pretty much the entire time, even though that's not gonna be my regular position? And is it hard at first? I'm just really nervous because I know there's a bunch of different numbers you have to remember for the fruits, plus you have to bag everything and I'm worried I won't do it correctly. I know someone is there training you, but my friend said they only train you for like an hour and then they leave you alone to do it...which scares me. I'm just afraid I won't pick it up very fast and I'll be super slow with the customers, and I won't bag things properly...any advice/insight? If you have worked as a cashier or even just on the cash register a few times at Target that would be great. I just need some reassurance I what I can expect for my first day. Thanks!

First day at target...where do I go, and what happens?

There might not actually be a separate employee door -- the store I worked out just had the main entrance.

The code for the door is the same as the store's number. But unless this number is included on your hire paperwork somewhere, it's hard to find it. When you get there, just ask someone at Guest Services what the door code is. You'll memorize it super quickly.

Meanwhile, when you punch in, you either press Start Work and then enter your complete employee number and then you're done, OR you press Start Work and enter your employee number (minus the leading zeros) and then press enter.
So basically, you either add the zeros or press enter.

If there are other people doing their cashier training on the same day, then you might be training concurrently, but at different registers. Cashier training doesn't even necessarily require a "trainer." The front end manager (GSTL) will set you up on a training register and give you a booklet that goes through the procedures of how to operate the cash register, how to process different kinds of payments, etc.
You'll work through the booklet, using the register to complete the exercises.

Despite what your schedule says, it's also possible that you won't actually be doing your cashier training that day. When I worked at Target, they didn't have me do my cashier training until my second week. However, as a Cafe worker, you do pretty much have to know how the registers work, so if you don't do it the first day, you'll DEFINITELY be doing it the second one.

Following Trump’s advice, should retail workers not be allowed to carry concealed weapons in order to deal with dangerous customers? Retail workers are more inclined to die from violence than school teachers.

The question stated was: “Following Trump’s advice, should retail workers not be allowed to carry concealed weapons in order to deal with dangerous customers? Retail workers are more inclined to die from violence than school teachers.”Most retail workers are allowed to carry a concealed handgun at work if they have passed their state’s requirements to obtain a permit. In contrast, school employees are virtually always prohibited by law from carrying at school, even if they have a license to carry. So to answer your question, yes, the clerk at the 7-Eleven absolutely should be allowed to carry, and generally is (if he/she has a permit). School employees who have gone to the trouble and expense to obtain a carry permit should be free to do so as well.

What are some useful tips for someone who is starting work at Target?

From day one, don’t mess up on anything, especially safety issues with driving equipment. You are expected to not make many mistakes even at the get go. There rules can be unnecessarily strict. If you violate one, usually unintentionally, you will be on their shit list for at least 6 months. Good news is, you get two strikes and the third time you are out, dismissed, fired! Don’t even try to argue or reason with them. It will be always your fault even if you think others or the company is at fault as well.Try to get on the Weekends Shift eventually, from 6 AM to 6 PM Fri, Sat, and Sun, and run a side business on the side or get a second job on the side that don’t compete with Target on other four days. You will never know when you need that extra cash if things were to go south.Try working on the ART machine as a team after 6 months. Time seems to fly by quicker with a three-man team rotating responsibilities throwing and receiving. Try not to get in conflicts with others. If you do, again, it is your fault too even if you are not the instigator or the problem. The Inbound and Warehouse Departments are doable…meaning you can make your numbers. However, the Outbound Department, I heard, just sucks! It hard for some people to meet their numbers. Also, try to volunteer to pick up trash and recyclable plastic for the Fac Ops Department…easiest job and time will fly by so fast.If you are starting at any of the Warehouse Associate positions, don’t expect to move up to the TL, GL, SGL, or GM positions. Trust me! Forget it! It is an unwritten policy…they don’t promote from the bottom. My suggestion, if you want to move up, after you get $17 or $20 per hour for being there several years, try to get a job at Walmart Distribution Center instead. Because there, they are open to promoting you…if, that is, what you want to move to management.Overall, Target pays well even at the beginning wage, but, you work hard if you want to make your numbers. You are usually exhausted by the end of each work week. Try to think of this job as a form of exercise…it keeps you in good cardio shape…it will make the work days more bearable. They try to stick to providing the “fast, fun, and friendly” work environment. Hence, I close with this…try not to screw up…even if it is unintentional…even if you are a beginner!

What advice would you give a new Realtor doing their first transaction with a buyer?

First and foremost, try to get as much guidance from your mentor or broker as possible.  There are many pitfalls that can be easily avoided with the benefit of experience.  So if you are unsure, ask for a second opinion.Second, this first transaction will help establish your template for how you will be as a Realtor.  Above all, you should adhere to the highest level of ethics that you're aware of, since you may not know where technical ethical infractions may appear. Third, be professional and courteous throughout.  As this is your first rodeo, your client (even if it's a good friend) will question your decisions and opinions.  Answer and address everything to the absolute best of your ability.  If you're not sure of anything, double-check rather than gloss over it and commit to getting back to the client with your response. If you do these steps right from the start, soon you'll find yourself with lots of referral clients and all of this will be second nature to you.
