Advice On How To Cope With Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain with slight headache?

For the past two and a half weeks ive had lower back pain and a slight headache. the headache comes and goes and isnt too bad but the lower back pain can be annoying. it started to get a little better this weekend but i bent down for something today and it went back to the condition it was before. any solutions, thoughts?

What’s the best way to cope with ongoing chronic back pain and arthritis of the hands, besides using medication/painkillers?

I am anti homeopathic medicine so I often get people who are pro homeopathic medicine complaining about my comments. The problem is there is no evidence one way or another about homeopathic medicine. The only results are comparable to placebos and my negativity comes from a homeopathic doctor prescribing my mother vitamins instead of blood thinners which almost cost her a leg.Wise use of pain meds can be beneficial. But without you being specific about where you are experiencing the pain or whether a doctor has diagnosed a specific form of arthritis it is hard to advise you. GET IT DIAGNOSED! There are specific drugs for different forms of arthritis and some will prevent damage that would cause much more pain in the long run. What can help are heating pads or cooling pads, capsaicin, or menthol balms. Relaxing in a tub or pool or jacuzzi can be very helpful, but please get a diagnosis. Anti-tnf drugs can make a huge difference for several forms of arthritis.

What are some of the best ways I can reduce back pain as a graduate student?

First of all, why does it hurt?If you’re sitting in a chair too often and it starts hurting, I recommend doing some physical activity. Going to the gym once a day can help you a lot in this, but I recommend jogging or simply walking. Say you walk for at least 30 minutes straight every day, it should be fine. I’m not talking about going places like shopping, going home from university is an option, I do it often instead of taking a local transport. If your pain is more along the lines of bend down and my back is breaking then I suggest visiting a doctor. Otherwise attending physiotherapy classes will help you, as it helped my father with his back pains (the lower end kind). So in essence, as a graduate student like me, I assume that you’re sitting on a chair a lot, so go do some exercises to alleviate your back pains.
