Advice On This Baby Name Help

Baby Name Advice - nicknames for 'John'?

Every male in my husband's family is named John. There are Johnnys, Uncle Johns, John Johns, Jacks, etc all over the place. My husband is insisting that we continue this tradition (and made me feel totally guilty by saying "why don't you want to name our son after me?"). Since he is wonderful and there's no one I'd rather name our son after, I'm agreeing but really want to give our baby an identity of his own. I don't want to have to call him Baby John or Little John all the time to differentiate him from his Daddy. I hate initial names (J.T., J.R., etc.) and have suggested calling him by his middle name (i.e. John Finley, call him Finn) but my husband wants it to be closer to John. Also, I've looked into some alternatives like naming him John but calling him Shane which is an Irish nickname for John. Help!

We both like John Hudson, John Albert and John Finley if that helps at all. Open to all ideas, thanks!!

How should I pick a baby name?

For my wife and I, it was about a 6 month process for each child. Our naming rules were a basic first name (nothing unique or trendy). It needed to be either simple enough not to have a nickname or an easily conceived nickname that was not too “cutesy.” So Robert could be Rob, but not Bobby. We decided on two middle names - one from each side of the family. Surnames were fair game. All three names needed to “flow” with the last name. My wife’s criteria for that was what would it sound like when you got yelled at? My criteria was what would it sound like at graduation? The initials could not spell a word or popular acronym. No rhyming or alliterations. And we both had veto power if there was a personal negative connotation with a particular name (since my wife is a teacher, she had many bad memories of certain students).Since we were having children before our siblings, we did not have to worry about doubling-up on a name.We only had one homophone combination which was obviously rejected - Crispin Brown. We would hate to give him the nickname Bacon.I hope our process will give you some ideas where to start with yours.

Baby Name Help, please! Which way do you think I should spell my daughter's name and why...?

Her middle name will be Michala.
David's (biblical, author of most Psalms) wife was named Michal and that is where I got the spelling, Michala. Some spell the name like the male name Michael, but I do not want to name her after any Michael. That spelling of course is Michaela. Some also spelll it Mikalah, including the somewhat famous Idol 4 contestant Mikalah Gordon. What do you think and why? Thanks so much!
