Affordable Trip To Montreal

What are cheap stores in Montreal?

At the corner of Crescent and Rene Levesque Boulevard, there is a second hand clothing store at the YWCA. My wife goes there on a regular basis.

You can also look for "Friperies", which are second hand clothing stores that offer nice clothes like the YWCA at really low prices.

In the plateau (the area around the Mount Royal metro station), there are lots of stores like that.

As for stores like Rue 21, Charlotte Ruse, etc... The stores I mention offer better clothes -- if a bit used -- for less.

How much would a 3 day trip to Montreal cost?

it really depends where you're staying an what you're doing.
If you want to stay in a hotel downtown, you can rent a room for about 100$ a night, and thats just the minimum.
here is a site for hotels in montreal:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g15503...

for food, it depends where you go eat. do you want to go eat at expensive restaurants every night, or are small ones ok too? (by the way the food is very good in montreal) usually costs for dining are affordable. you can have a meal that's 10$ per person, or one thats 100$ per person.

also, don't forget what you will be paying for gas.

and, the attractions you will go see. if you want to enjoy the bars and clubs at night, you will need money to buy drinks (and if there is a special event, to get in) so unless you get a nice guy to buy you drinks, you should have at least 20$ a night per person if not more.

if you want to enjoy the shopping experience, then you'll need a lot of money I won't even bother calculating.

if you want to visit the botanical garden, olympic stadium and all other museums you should have some money for that too.

so to answer your question, how much money will you need to have a good time?
it can be 500$ for the 3 day trip, or it can go up to 5000$, it all depends what you make of it.

but assuming you're going by yourself, you stay in a 150$/night hotel and eat at regular restaurants, I'd say you can do it within 1-3 thousand dollars. (not counting gas of course)

Are there any travel cards available for tourists visiting Montreal and Toronto (or any cheap ways to use the metro)?

In Toronto, you can buy a day pass, good for all subway, bus and streetcar routes for $12.50 . See the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) website. PricesIn Montreal, you can buy a similar fare, good for metro and bus routes, for $10, which must go on an “OPUS” card. They also have a three day fare for $18.See the STM (Societe de transport de Montreal) website - Fares

What's the best (fastest, most affordable) way to travel between Montreal and Toronto?

The fastest way is to fly, though if you live downtown or in the east of Toronto and your destination is in downtown or west Montreal, VIA Rail’s express service is nearly as fast as flying, due to not having to check in an hour in advance and wait around to enplane and deplane. Flying Porter out of Toronto Island airport near central Toronto reduces the airport congestion and wait times a little over flying out of Pearson Airport, located a long way from the centre of the city. The most affordable way to travel between the two cities for a single person is by bus - Greyhound, or the cheaper (and perhaps less reliable) Megabus. But while the train takes four hours, and flying three to four hours, the bus takes six to seven hours. For a group of four or more, driving an economical car will be cheaper even than regular bus fare. But it is slower, six to seven hours again. For a balance between the two, VIA Rail is probably the best, especially if you buy your tickets in advance on special, or in their every Tuesday discount sale.

What is the best way to go from Montreal to Toronto?

I agree. If you're at Dorval/Trudeau, the train station for the train that goes to Toronto is right across the highway from the airport. The train takes you to the main commuter rail station in Toronto, which also hooks up to the subway/metro system. Most planes to Toronto from Montreal go to Pearson, which is in a Toronto suburb and has poor transportation connections to everywhere. If you're really in a hurry, Porter Airlines runs several flights a day from Trudeau to Toronto's Billy Bishop airport on the Toronto waterfront. From there, it's about a 25 minute tram ride to the main train station and subway. There is also a courtesy bus that takes slightly longer and goes to the same destination.

What is the cheapest way to travel from Toronto to Montreal?

I do believe it's the bus but the train is so much more comfy and faster. Plus there used to be a piano outside the train st. in Toronto if you want to practice!Enjoy. Check out Le Saint Sulpice in Mont. Free club, packed in the summer with cool people. Also the Old Port looks like Europe!AlohaDaryl

What is the best way to travel from Montreal to Regina?

Hi. Here are some possible options for you depending on your time and money availability:Hitch-hiking. This is the cheapest way and it should take you about 3–4 days. There is, of course, some danger in it and you wouldn’t want to do it in winter as standing on the roadside for a few hours waiting for a ride can be a damn cold experience. (I know from personal adventures!!)There is no direct train from Montreal to Regina. The train west from Montreal goes through Saskatoon. You could take the train to Saskatoon and then hop a bus to Regina.A bus trip is long and boring, but it is relatively cheap and will get you there in about 2.5 days.Rent a car. The road is yours, the time is yours. Stop when and where you want. If you don’t return the car to Montreal, you will probably have to pay an additional drop-off fee. But it’s a great way to see the country and really enjoy the trip. Make sure you ask the rental company if they allow you to go through the United States. This route goes through Toronto, Chicago, and Minneapolis, if you don’t want to take the northern route around Lake Superior.Fly. Short, direct, more costly. But it gets you there very fast with no muss or fuss except for the airport tangle.

Where should I stay in Montreal for a short-term visit?

I always stay at these people's apartments when I go to visit my sister:Montreal Vacation Rental. Great Montreal Furnished RentalsThey are not hugely exciting, but they are affordable, legitimate and have all the supplies we need. I like the couple who runs the business - I think they have some places in France and have retired there, so it's local relatives who manage the rentals now.Anyway, I like family-run businesses with that homey feeling. I've tried other vacation rentals in Montreal and the owners overstated the conditions of the premises and expected me to buy my own laundry soap. A small thing, but we always provide laundry soap to our guests and it irritated me all out of proportion to reality. :-)

What is the best way to travel the distance between Montreal and Quebec City?

Hi !As mentionned in previous answers, the term “Best” widely depends on your preferences. So let me divide my answer into preferences (Time, Comfort, Cost) :TimeDefinitely, the most time-wise option is the car. You can make it in 2 hours and a half and you have full flexibility over your departure.ComfortNot very popular due to it’s high cost and extended travel time (4 hrs), the train is definitely the most comfortable option with lots of space and decent meal service. But don’t expect a beautiful scenic view all the way to Quebec, it’s quite boring. Via Rail is operation the passenger trains in Canada.Surprisingly, i found buses very comfortable for this trip (maybe because i’m only 5 foot 6 and quite skinny), but their comfort is justified by the high price: Around 50$+tax regular rate for ONE WAY. If you’re student and have flexibility, you can get it around 35$ +tax. If you take the Express bus, the trip will lasts 3 hours. There’s only Orléans Express company operating this route.CostThe cheapest way to get there surely is by ridesharing. For 15–20$, you can get a one way ride from MTL to QC. Plus, you’ll benefit the comfort of a car, you’ll have someone to chat with and maybe they can have flexibility on where they drop you off. Look on the Website Amigoexpress or visit the multiple Facebook ridesharing page, type in ‘Covoiturage quebec montreal’ and you’ll find plenty of pages. You’ll have the Time, the Comfort and the Cost advantage. If you’re looking for the best road to get their:Time: Highway 20 or 40 East are the fastest options to do Mtl-Qc. Highway 40 tends to be busy earlier on the way due to trafic if you
