After A Year Unemployed What Help Is Available For New Full Time Workers

I am 26-year-old unemployed Indian male. What should I do?

Firstly, stop thinking about your age. We are living in a society where everything is time bound. Everything follows a timeline. According to people, you should have gained at least 3 years of work experience. Don't give a damn to any shit. And if you keep on thinking that I'm 26 and unemployed, then very soon you will going to post that I'm 28, single and unemployed. Obviously, you don't want this to happen. Let me tell you my story. I'm also 26 years old girl and soon going to turn 27. My condition was same as yours an year back. Even I used to think about all these things but gained nothing. Failed in many competitive exams. Then one fine day, I deactivated everything, facebook, instagram WhatsApp, everything which was distracting me and then worked hard to achieve my goal and finally I proved myself. Since then, no one asked me about my age, years I remained unemployed, nothing. Marriage proposals started flooding. I forgot to tell about my qualifications and how long I remained unemployed. Well, I'm an engineering graduate from an average college. Sitting at home since 2014 to 2017, unemployed. Hope you can understand my condition. But one thing which kept me going was hope and my instincts. I do not listen to anyone. I just follow my instincts. And then finally proved myself. If I would have taken a private job or any other job to remain busy and free from societal pressure, might be I will end up being depressed. It doesn't matter how long you remain unemployed. What matter is, steps you take to come out of that situation. Trust me, the one who are not following their heart and just doing job to earn their daily bread, their condition is worse that yours. I believe being unemployed is better than doing the job which doesn't interests you. This unemployment condition taught me so many lessons. Once you become employed, then you will realise that you were growing mentally and emotionally. So, just don't think about past. Free yourself from all the regrets and think about the reasons. Then dedicatedly, work towards it and after some months, you will be on track. And most importantly, keep yourself away from negativity and negative people. All the best and hope you will post some good news soon. Be optimistic.

Can I receive unemployment if I was fired after 7 years on the Job?

I have been working full time in the state of Missouri since I was 18. I am now 32 years old. I have never been without a job. I even had 2 jobs at some points. I have never been fired before. I have been laid off once due to the recession. I was on that job for 2.5 years. Then I was employed by a very big bank. I have had no issues on the job in the 7 years that I was there. I never got into it with anyone. I was averaging 118% with no errors for this year. I was fired in July the week after I took my vacation. The reason told to me was tardies which falls under attendance. I was 12 minutes late the day before I was fired. But If that was the real reason then over 1/2 of the department should have been fired with me in that same day because it was people with greater tardies then I had and over their sick days. I was told my manager "the policy states that I can terminate your employment if you are over 6 tardies or 6 sick days". these were her exact words. But as I said before over half the department was greater then that. It was people there with 9 sick day call offs and they are still there. also this big bank that I worked for had major lay-offs and fired a lot of people. but this bank was not in the news like bank of america and citibank. but this bank was just a big and received bail out funds also. I had to write a letter to the unemployment stating what happened. i explained what happened just as i stated above the real reason i was "fired" was because of company downsizing. It was another person fired the same day I was for the same thing. this person had took a full week vacation the week before just as I did. I stated that the manager of the dept downsized her dept and will try to use "misconduct" as a reason so we wont get our benefits. the other person had been there for about 8 years. employers are trying anything so they wont have to pay benefits. firing people for tardy after 7 years of service during a time of recession sounds like downsizing to me. i cant thing of any other reason of why i was fired. Will my benefits be denied if this big bank reports "misconduct" . Its sad the big comanies are downsizing and firing good employees for small reasons to try and get their benefits denied. I hope the division of unemployment will see straight this scam.

Are they considered unemployed, employed, not in labor force?

Hi,

I was struggling with trying to categorize these examples with being unemployed or not. Thanks for the help!

1. Stan is a 25-year-old who lost his job as a copyeditor for a local newspaper. He's spent the past few weeks out of work and interviewing for other editing jobs. If his job search doesn't pan out after a few more weeks, he's thinking about going back to grad school.

2. Eric is a 49-year-old auto worker who was laid off from his job six months ago. He is frustrated with his inability to find a full-time position. Last week he took a part-time job, but could work only three hours.

What I think the answers are:

1. Currently Unemployed; because he is out of a job but is seeking a new one. Just wasn't sure because of the mentioning that he is thinking about going back to school.

2. Employed; because he worked more than 1 hour.

If anyone could clarify, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

What does it feel like to be an unemployed PhD?

When I was graduating, finding a job was hard.Having a PhD puts tremendous employment pressure on you. Most of it is due to the notion that as a PhD you *must* go into research in that area, else what’s the point? This is what screws most PhDs. There simply are not enough research jobs to absorb all PhDs. Similarly, most companies do not understand the value and skills a PhD can bring to the company. My own experience trying to find a job taught me that as a PhD you need to work at least twice as hard as those without a PhD to even get people to have an initial conversation with you. I started looking for jobs over a year before I graduated. I reached out to at least 10 people per company that I felt was interesting and I may want to work at, using friends, family, alumni databases and my career office as resources to do so. That was the only way companies would even talk to me.It is very frustrating when you know you have skills to bring to the company, and they keep asking ‘so why aren’t you going into academia?’ You really need to have a clear answer. One that you trial with people outside academia, and see if they can understand that story. Without a clear story for why you aren’t doing what everyone thinks you should do, you are dead in the water. That said, there is an amazing opportunity for someone to bridge the gap between skilled, hard-working PhDs and the need companies have for great employees. I hope someone can figure it out.

Help me find the unemployment rate with this problem?

In an economy, the working-age population is 400 million. Of this total,

320 million workers are employed
12 million workers are unemployed
56 million workers are not available for work (homemakers, full-time students, etc.)
8 million workers are available for work but are discouraged and thus are not seeking for work
4 million workers are available for work but are not currently seeking work due to transportation or childcare problems

The unemployment rate in this economy is ____%

Thanks!

Which are Example of Unemployment?

In my mind, here's how they break down:

a. Not counted as unemployed, and in many states cannot be employed as the employment age is often 16.

b. Is employed in the military, so not counted as unemployed. The military IS a full time job unless it is reserves or National Guard.

c. Not counted as unemployed, as they are also not eligible to be employed. Similar to letter a.

d. May be considered underemployed, but not unemployed as they are working at least part time.

e. Because of the substitute teaching, also considered underemployed, not unemployed.

f. Unemployed in my opinion, but when looking at the way the government calculates the unemployment numbers, people who are not actively seeking employment are not usually counted.

g. Unemployed, but disabled. Depending on if the injury was work related, possibly on worker's comp.
