After Care For A New Tattoo

What do I have to do to care for my new tattoo?

Your artist should have given you aftercare instructions, as each of us knows the intricacies of how our work heals and what’s best for the piece during that time. Here are a few general guidelines that most artists tell their clients:Keep your tattoo clean. Between 2hours-24hours (artist’s preference) after your tattoo was finished and wrapped in a bandage, you should wash your hands, unwrap your tattoo, wash it with Unscented Liquid Antibacterial soap and hot water, then rinse with cold water. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO TOUCH YOUR NEW TATTOO, AND YOU DONT EITHER UNLESS YOUVE WASHED YOUR HANDS.Do NOT use ANYTHING to wash your tattoo with other than your CLEAN HANDS.Pat your tattoo dry with a paper towel. Do NOT use ANY MATERIAL to dry your tattoo with other than CLEAN PAPER TOWELS. Bath towels, kitchen towels, wash cloths, etc all leave fibers behind that can get your new tattoo infected.Let your tattoo AIR DRY for a minimum 20min, you want to wait however long it takes for your skin to completely dry before applying lotion. Your tattoo will feel “tight” when it’s dry, kinda like how your skin feels when you get a sunburn.Apply a SMALL amount of Aquaphor to your tattoo, rubbing it gently into your tattoo plus the area directly around it. A good rule of thumb here is that for every palm-sized area of skin that’s been tattooed, you should apply a pea-sized amount of lotion.DO NOT RECOVER YOUR TATTOO. Obviously, you can wear normal clothes and socks and shoes. You want to lean more towards natural, loose fitting fabrics as the #1 thing your tattoo needs to heal the quickest and the best is OXYGEN.DO NOT SCRATCH OR PICK AT YOUR NEW TATTOO. It’s gonna itch. Deal with that now so you don’t waste the artist’s time and your money by ruining what you just put yourself through pain for. Best solution: pat your tattoo like it’s a weave to stop the itching.

Aftercare for a new tattoo?

It all depends on what your tattoo artist has recomended. You will find that everybody has different things they will recommend. And everybody has done different.

For example with my first tattoo:- he put cling film over it when it was done, then said that when i got home to clean it with some warmish water, then to use preparation H(Pile cream) but it has whitch hazel in so is good for healing.

Then with my second(a new guy that had taken over) he covered it with a mepore dressing. and that was it.

Other people have been in to work and have been told to ue bepantham a nappy rash cream)

So go with what you have been told, i doubt he would be making it up. And if you are a little unsure go back and ask or pop in to a different tattooist and ask them.
I'm sure they would be more than happy to help.

Also make sure you don't pick at it, try not to touch it/scratch it when it is healing, and don't scrub it when showering

How do you care for a finger tattoo?

finger tattoos.  they've become popular, alright, but are very prone to fading.  the skin on your fingers, hands, feet, elbows, knees and some other parts just does not hold ink as readily as some other spots.for those who insist that they need to do this kind of tattoo, keep it clean and moisturized as with any tattoo, let air get at it, in other words, don't rebandage.expect to get it retouched at least once and very possibly more than once to compensate for the fading which this area is notorious for.best of luck.

Is it harmful to a new tattoo to put too much after care lotion or ointment?

yes, depending how much you use...you can over saturate it, which could prolong the healing process. You can't go wrong with just keeping it moist enough, so it's never "dry"... if that means more than 4-5 times a day, fine...just don't go overboard

Can I use olive oil on my new tattoo?

People do use olive oil on their skin sometimes as a moisturizer, and the ancient Romans used it as an exfoliant by applying to the skin and then scraping it off. These applications, however, are meant for unbroken skin. While olive oil may be natural, it is still a food product, and seems like it might serve as nourishment for bacteria that could grow in the abraded skin of your new tattoo. A quick check of tattoo sites does say that olive or coconut oil can be used.I’d still stick to a sterile, non-food derived lotion provided by, or recommended by the tattooist.7 Ways You're Ruining Your New Tattoo

How do you care for a recent tattoo on the ribs?

Congratulations on the new ink! Since its on the ribs and the skin in the region is thin and full of capillaries and blood vessels, you need to take really good care.  - Wear loose fitting cotton shirts for 2 weeks. You don't want tight fits to rub against your tattoo. Nylon accumulates sweat and would increase chances of infection. - Avoid gym and heavy workouts for 3 weeks at the least. - You might feel stinging pain every time you raise your arm on the tattoo side, so be careful while you wear your t-shirt, try to grab the jar on top shelf or adjust your shower head. - Apply a non-greasy cream lightly over the tattoo while it heals. Petroleum jelly based creams are a big NO. - Don't go for a swim or use a bath tub while the tattoo heals, you might invite infections to your tattoo wound. - If you tend to sweat, keep clean tissues handy. Tap dry and  dispose them off. This is particularly useful while your tattoo still oozes.

New tattoo???.. Aftercare lotion burning?

you could try switching brands. i've had multiple tattoos and only once did it ever burn and that only lasted for about 2 days. it was the latest addition to my back piece and i had used the same lotion when i had the first portion done. i was using vaseline intensive rescue, which is hypoallergenic and unscented lotion. in my opinion the burning may be caused from the skin being over worked.

Behind ear tattoo aftercare?

So, on saturday I'm going to get a tattoo behind my ear and I am very excited! (it's going to be a paper crane) I was just looking over some aftercare tips and I was wondering about washing my hair. Because it's going to be so close to my hair line, I am definitely planning on waiting a few days to wash my hair but I'm not sure how many. I'm starting school on Thursday so I'd like to be able to wash my hair on wednesday night. Would waiting five days be enough or can I wait less time to avoid a greasy itchy scalp? Thanks for your help in advance, and if you have any more tips I'd love to hear them!
