Agree Or Disagree The Government Can Force You To Support Activities That You Disapprove Of Due To

Why do Liberals enforce through government a welfare/nanny state?

Basic ideological and philosophical chasm between libs and cons:

Libs believe we should force all citizens who work and earn to support those who choose not to work and earn by threat of financial penalty and/or loss of freedom. The government decides who gets helped, and how much each of us must give up.

Cons believe each person should work and earn and keep what they earn. If an individual wants to help another, that individual should be able to do so voluntarily, not by confiscation of earnings and arbitrary distribution by the government. Those who truly need help should get it, but those who simply freeload would be motivated to pull their weight.

I don't imagine you can tell which philosophy I abide in, can you?

Does Islam promote terrorism OR it is religion of peace????

Islam means "PEACE". If you please read Quran, holy book of Muslims, you will find everywhere GOD asks for peace. Some people misleads "Jihad". It does not mean to fight others but it allows Muslims to defend themselves and it is very obvious. Some Muslims who are involved in terrorist activities do not represent Islamic believes and if you look into their own biography they were previously supported by some western country most commonly by USA like Usama bin Laden and his followers.

How/why does the word "sanction" have two opposite meanings?

It's called an "autoantonym". There are a number of examples, including "cleave", meaning both "stuck to" and "separate". It often occurs when a word starts meaning something neutral but is later applied in two opposite contexts.

"Sanction" has a rather interesting history. The original root conveyed neither approval nor disapproval, but "holiness". It's related to "sanctity".

Words tend to drift in meaning over time, and from "holiness", the word took on the connotation of "legal force". That legal force can be applied either to require things or to disallow them.

This sort of thing happens all the time in language. The word "host", for example, can mean either "somebody who welcomes you" or "an army". ("Host" as "army" is relatively rare, but "hostile" is related and quite common.) The original Latin word "hostis" meant neither, it simply meant "stranger". And you can see how "stranger" could take on both positive and negative connotations.

Oddly, the same word "hostis" also gave rise to the English word "guest", exactly the opposite of "host".

So basically, what has happened that we start with a neutral word, then move on to apply both negative and positive connotations to it in different contexts. Eventually, the word ends up taking on both connotations, effectively meaning the opposite.
