Alcohol Related Muscle Spasms

Alcohol and muscle spasms?

You bet they're related. A deficiency of the mineral magnesium in your blood causes muscle spasms, and alcohol makes the kidneys empty more w/o saving the minerals. So your binge drinking gave you a magnesium deficiency.

There are about a zillion ways binge drinking hurts your body--frying your liver is at the top, predisposing you to pancreatic cancer is a close second. Look at people in their 40's and 50's and see the difference in appearance between those who've drunk a lot of alcohol most of their lives and those who haven't. The heavy drinkers look sort of bloated and unhealthy. It ain't pretty. And those are the ones who are still alive.

2 - 3 beers a couple of times a week won't do that much damage, but you might want to take a magnesium supplement beforehand. The liquid or powdered kinds absorb best. You don't want to go over ~250 mg. at a shot 'cause taking a whole lot of magnesium at once can give you the runs.

Alcohol and muscle spasms?

Alcohol can cause dehydration and disrupt cell function throughout the body, making you feel sick, or hungover, when any intoxication wears off. Try not to drink on an empty stomach or when you're worn out from from exercise or lack of sleep. After you've indulged, drinking lots of nonalcoholic liquids and popping a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB) may be helpful. Drinking lots of potassium beverages may also help.
Low back pain usually involves spasm of the large supportive muscles alongside the spine. Any injury to the back may produce such spasms. Pain--often severe--and stiffness result. The onset of pain may be immediate or may occur some hours after exertion or injury. Often the cause isn't clear.

If the cause isn't muscle fatigue, your doctor may find other, possibly treatable causes. These can include circulatory problems, hyperventilation, an underactive thyroid, and low blood levels of calcium or (rarely) magnesium.
I hope this helps you. And good luck.

I am having muscle spasms around my heart?

Has anyone ever had this before? It's really freaking me out. I excercised alot yesterday and really don't excercise that much so I'm wondering if that is causing the spasms. I don't have heart problems, I'm 26 years old in fairly good health. It's just weird feeling.

Why do I get neck pain when I drink alcohol?

Fact 1: Alcohol addiction from two parts per thousand disguises the painThe central nervous system (CNS) is an important target organ of alcohol.Alcohol comes as a small molecule through each cell wall of the body, is quickly absorbed and quickly distributed in the body. For more detail visit this article. After drinking alcohol, it is already absorbed in the mouth and throat area. The main part, however, is absorbed by the body in the stomach and small intestine. How quickly alcohol is absorbed and thus also develops its pain-relieving effect depends on whether you have eaten before, as well as the type of alcohol.Carbonated drinks, such as sparkling wine, accelerate alcohol intake, as they mechanically irritate the stomach and intestinal wall and promote the circulation of the mucous membrane.Scientific studies have shown that alcohol attacks specific neuronal areas. This involves so-called receptors and signaling pathways of neurotransmitters.acetylcholineAlcohol causes a decreased acetylcholine concentration.Acetylcholine receptors are found on the musculature, brain and heart. The effect on the musculature leads to the known uncertain gait. The heart, in turn, beats slower. In addition, the unsafe movements probably also result from a reduction in blood flow in the cerebellum, which is responsible for the course and coordination of the motor system.dopamineAlcohol causes an increase in dopamine and thus a positive influence on the body's brain reward system as well as an improved moodSerotonin and norepinephrineAlcohol causes a decrease in the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine. This increases aggressive and depressive behavior.Endorphins and enkephalinsIncreased alcohol consumption leads to an increase in endorphins and enkephalins.
