Algebra Question For College

College Algebra question?

you can abstract the information into 2 equations:
a + 100b + 500c = 50000
a + b + c = 500
there should be one free parameter when we solve this.
further imposing the requirement for integer solutions should give you a unique solution.

College Algebra Math Question?

x and y intercepts are easy to do

take the original equation in A

2x+4y=8

cover up the x term with your finger
see only 4y = 8 now...
y=2 is the y intercept

cover up the y term and see 2x = 8
x=4 is the x intercept

slope on this one is -1/2

for B

covering x gives y=3 y intercept

covering y gives 0=-1/2 x - 3
x=6 is the x intercept
slope is -1/2 here too

Math Question for College Algebra?

there is a simple formula for calculating this:

(y(1) - y(2))/(x(1) - x(2))

so take as x for example 1 and 2 you get:
x = 1, y = -2
x = -2, y = 0

fill in the formula:
(-2 - 0)/(1 - (-2))= -2/3

College algebra math question asap?

yoline and eve are spies for alpha computer corporation. their competitor, zeta industries, is headquartered in the building just next door. yoline is standing on the roof top of zeta ind. holding the hard drive she just stole which contains plans for the new zeta operating system. eve is waiting on the roof top of alpha comp corp for yoline to toss the hard drive over to her. the height in feet of the hard drive over time in seconds will be modeled by: H(t)= -16t^2+32t+140

if the roof top of alpha comp corp where eve is waiting is 20feet high, how long until eve catches the hard drive? include units in the answer

when i did this i got the answer 15.6 seconds but it was wrong

College Algebra Question. Urgent!?

If Perimeter is equal to 2x (length) + 2y (width) and the following is true,
Perimeter = 44 meters
Width = 2y
Length = (2 x (2y + 10))
Then,
2y + 4y + 20 = 44
6y = 24
y = 24/6
y = 4
Solve as (6 x 4) + 20 = 44
so 24 + 20 = 44
and 44 = 44
Therefore: The Length = 18
The Width = 4
2(8 + 10) + (2 x 4) = 44
36 + 8 = 44
44 = 44

Algebra question for college placement?

3i(2+5i)=x+6i

Just using algebra
6i + 15(i x i) = x + 6i
Subtract 61 from both sides
15(i x i) = x
Ok now use the fact that
i = sqrt of -1
which expressed another way says
i x i = -1
x = -15

P. S. You never have to exactly evaluate sqrt of -1
There is no answer in real terms
You just use its properties to help solve the problem.

Math question..college algebra?

First isolate the absolute value so
| x - 4 | < 2

Because of the absolute value (x-4) can be negative or positive.
If negative the absolute value will add a neg sign to make positive
-(x - 4) < 2
Moving a negative sign will flip the inequality
x-4 > -2
x>2

If positive
x - 4 < 2
x< 6

So in interval notation (2 , 6)

For the graph you will draw a solid line with open circles around 2 and 6
<-------------(2)====(6)-------------->

Where the equal signs represent a solid line.

College algebra word problem questions?

1. Width = x
Length = 2x - 12
Diagonal = 30

When you draw the rectangle and label its parts, you'll notice that you're actually dealing with a pythagorean trangle with legs x and 2x - 12, and a hypotenus of 30. so it's the same as:

a = x
b = 2x - 12
c = 30

since you know that c^2 = a^2 + b^2 (Pythagorean Theorem), you can substitute the values:

30^2 = x^2 + (2x-12)^2

from here, you just solve for x...

900 = x^2 + (4x^2 - 48x + 144) [squaring the binomial]
900 = 5x^2 - 48x + 144 [simplifying]
0 = 5x^2 - 48x + 144 - 900 [adding 900 to both sides]
0 = 5x^2 - 48x - 756

We now have a quadratic equation. You can either factor that or use the quadratic formula. I usually prefer factoring but using the quadratic formula is easier to explain.

the quadratic formula is x = (-b +/- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac)/ 2a

in our equation, a = 5, b = -48 and c = -756

so, plugging in the values, we have

x = (48 +/- sqrt(48^2 - 4(5)(-756))/2(5)
x = (48 +/- sqrt(17424)) /10
x = (48 +/- 132)/10

case1: x = (48 + 132)/10
x = 180/10
x = 18

case2: x = (48 - 132)/10
x = -84/10
x = -8.4

we now have 2 values of x, which is 18 and -8.4

now you can't have a negative width, right? so the value is only 18.

W = x
L = 2x - 12

so

W = 18
L = 24

PS i don't know how detailed you want it so there. i also don't have enough time to solve them all and explain here in details so i'll just leave that to the other people here. Also, i do recommend that you do lots and lots and lots of practice. seriously, that helps :D

College Algebra questions... I'm so confused!?

Here are a few questions from my homework... I've tried and tried, but still don't understand it. Can someone please explain? 10 points to whoever does.

You are business consultant for a company that recaps and sells tires, which they sell
as sets of four only. They sell the recapped tires for $89.00 a set. The fixed costs for
rent and utilities and manager salary are $1400. The cost in labor and raw materials
to recap the tires is $75.00 per set.

1. Write the cost and revenue functions for this business.

2. Find the break even point. The break even point is the number of sets of tires that need to
be sold to break even and the value of Revenue and Cost for that number of sets of tires.

-------------------------

The manager tells you that next year the fixed costs will go up by 7% and the variable
costs will go up by 10%. He knows he has to increase the price, and he wants to know
what price he needs to charge to get the break even point down to 90 next year.

3. Compute the values of the Variable Cost and the Fixed Costs for the Cost functions for next
year. Use these values to write the Cost function.

4. Compute the price required to put the break even point at x  90.
