Am I A New Yorker Or A Canadian

Are all New Yorkers with an accent Italian?

I'm Canadian/German, but grew up mostly in New Jersey and New York. I'm not Italian, but ended up spending most of my youth growing up around Italians. Especially around central Jersey and Long Island. My stomping ground days were spent between South Bound Brook (NJ) and Brookyln (NY). I'm told that I don't sound Canadian at all, but instead some blend of the two states and the first thing that pops into others heads is me as some character from the television show "The Sopranos" and I've got mixed feelings about how that went over as I got older. However, not all New Yorkers have the same accent just as not all people from Dallas have that Texas 'twang'. I find the people from the five different boroughs all vary, Italian or not. People for instance from Brooklyn sound different from someone in Queens (much stronger accent) or the Bronx as opposed to someone from Manhattan who still have an accent, but just a much less pronounced one. The further you get away from the city and say for example, live up in northern New York state are even far less pronounced as least to me, but other people can easily identify them when they cross the border into Canada. I've seen people who've come from both Genoa and Sicily and hardly sound like they're from New York regardless of which side of the US/Canadian border they live on or even for how many decades they've lived there.Personally I don't know how I got my accent, but it's quite possible that it came from being young and around several people with very thick accents, but not all of them were Italian. This makes me really stick out like a sore thumb here in New Zealand. So being non-Italian, it's probably just one of those things that you pick up especially while you're growing up and perhaps that plays a crucial part rather than what country you come from.

Is New York State the Ontario, Canada of the U.S.?

The center of the universe? Toronto? lolololol. If anyone outside of Toronto believes that for a second they must be from outside our borders. I can see some comparisons to New York City though but somehow I can't see NYC as the center of the US universe either. To answer your question, since geographically neither Ontario nor New York State are the centers of either Nation and since either Nation would get along just fine without them, neither is the center of anything except maybe commerce and banking but that is just the cities, not the State and Province.

Canadians or canadans???

the suffix "ian" is often used to create an adjective to describe a group or dervied from a proper noun.

Iran--Iranian
Christ--Christian
guard--Guardian
Jung--Jungian
Hungary--Hungarian
plebe--plebian
Mars-martian
Athens--Athenian
Glasgow--Glaswegian

So Although there's no readily explainable reason WHY we say Canadian instead of Canadan, there are enough other examples to show that it is a far from anomalous label.

Do New Yorkers love Canada?

Go see the musical, “Come From Away.”It’s the story of Gander, Newfoundland, a town in the far northeast of North America. On September 11, 2001 after the attacks on the World Trade Center the US airspace was closed. Thirty eight planes on their way to the US were forced to make emergency landings in Gander, bringing 6,600 new people to a town with a population of 9,000.The musical is a very moving true story of how the folks of Newfoundland opened their homes and their hearts to over six thousand temporarily displaced people, mostly from the US and many from New York. After seeing that musical any New Yorker will love Canada.

If you go to Canada and get a parking ticket, do you have to pay for it?

Ok, I want to add the fact that the signs were in french. That's very cute, parking meters are an American invention.. Yes I know how they work dick head but the meter actually wouldn't let me pay since it was before 9:30am. I got up early just to move the car from where it was before. Really beside the point. And if you really think that I'm being a pompous American prick, I actually tried speaking with the parking authority and they were very rude to me. If it were the other way around I am positive that the ticket would have been voided. The officer would not simply have looked at what state my plates were from and given me a smug remark about it.

Can you drive in the US with a Canadian G2 license?

I'm a 19 year old Canadian citizen planning a roadtrip to Buffalo, New York, but I only have my G2 Canadian license. Can I drive just with that or do I need to have my full G license?

Why does The New Yorker raise a question about the validity of the phrase "illegal immigration"?

I believe that the process of moving to another country to live is just “immigration.” When people use the word illegal I think they mean “officially condoned“ for example if I buy a bus ticket and go to Canada and just live there claiming that I am a Canadian, I by definition would be an immigrant but my citizen status would not be “legal“ Because Canada like all countries have laws stating a list of requirements you need to meet to become a “citizen”

Why did alex the lion said "I am a new yorker I don't drive" in the animation madagascar: 3 europe most wanted?

Because most people in New York city cannot afford to own a car and pay the annual cost for insurance, parking it, etc.  Having a car in New York City can cost $9K plus -not including your car payment.$4-6K for parking.$3K for insurance.$1K for gas$1K for car repairs The city can be brutal on your car. Public transportation and taxis are easier and cheaper for New York City residents to get around.

How different or similar is Toronto to New York City?

What a timely question.  I live in Toronto and just returned from a few days in NYC.I would say, as much as Torontonians would like to say otherwise, the two are more different than similar.First of all, NYC is FAR bigger. Most people who visit NYC really only visit Manhattan (which is large enough), but if you study a map, you'll see that Manhattan is really only a small fraction of NYC.Other differences:NYC's architecture is far more impressive.  Toronto's a lovely city, but its streetscapes are made beautiful by the people who occupy it--the cafes and such.  The architecture itself leaves much to be desired.NYC is just...more.  Toronto's shopping is good, NYC's is astounding.  It's art galleries and museums are unimaginable in number.  In Toronto, we have one large public gallery, one large public museum, both very good, but after that, forget it. NYC has numerous of both.  And Toronto's live theatre scene is really tiny by comparison.Toronto is cleaner, but not by much.  NYC has scrubbed up well these past 20 years.Toronto's subway is way under-developed.  (That is supposed to change in the next 10 years, if politicians can stop fighting about it.) But Toronto's subway is certainly far, far cleaner.  There isn't that "ick, just don't touch anything" feeling.Toronto is far quieter. If there is one thing I dislike in NYC, it's that there's nowhere to catch a moment of calm.  Everything is loud and crowded.  Conversations in public places are really only had by shouting at least a bit.  (You don't even notice it, but monitor yourself while there and you'll realize that the voice in which you speak is a shout, anywhere else in the world.)  The one exception is the public library.  I find myself ducking in sometimes, just to have 15 minutes of no one yelling. Both cities are quite safe.In terms of living there, Toronto is a nice city.  I am very happy living here.  But NYC is truly unique, like nowhere else in the world.  It is simply, the biggest and best of everything--art, business, theatre, comedy, music, etc.  Second best need not apply; bring your A game or don't bother, you'll be eaten alive.

Where can I buy Jansport backpacks in New York?

I live near Toronto, Canada and they rarely sell Jansport bags here (the ordinary kinds, it's called Superbreak).

I'm going to Corning, New York next week (labour day weekend) and I'm hoping to do some shopping while picking up a new Jansport backpack (a solid colour one) for my junior year of school. Where can I buy Jansport bags in New York State? I'll probably pass by Boston, too, so I can stop there to shop around. Do they sell it at JC Penney, Marshalls, TJ Maxx.. etc.. if not, where?

Please help :)
