Am I Drinking Too Much Water

Am i drinking too much Water??

1) Two liter of water are usually no problem, at least no deminerilisation will occur.

2) Consider the amount you drink altogether per day, i.e. including all other beverages. Without much sports this usually does not exceed two liters, with lots of sports and a lot of sweating it might easily be necessary to drink 3 liters per day -- all depending on heat and sweat.

3) If you are worried, drink water mixed with a little bit of pure juice. This will avoid any danger of having to less minerals. Alternatively, replace some water with isotonic sports drinks, e.g. 1,5 l water and 0,5 l isotonic drink.

4) Please be aware of strong thirst without any good reason is an indicator for diabetes. Make sure you are only thirsty after physical exercise or in normal quantity.

Am I drinking TOO much Water?

So lately I've been really thirsty and I just always feel the need to drink water. Like all the time I just need water I crave it.
I am a female, 15 years old, 5'2 and 105 pounds so I think I'm pretty average. I have been drinking about 100 oz of water everyday for the past few days (110 oz if coffee counts). Before that i was drinking like 70 and even before that like 50 and I used to drink like less than 20 oz a day a few months ago. So basically it keeps getting higher. I don't drink it all at once, I drink like 5oz of water at a time. I also haven't been as hungry lately and a LOT less bloated (I was pretty much always really bloated when I drank only like 20 oz a day). I eat pretty healthy- except i eat too much fruit (like 5 pieces a day) but I've always loved fruit. I eat like 1-2 vegetables and then yogurt and some meat and crackers... Ya know the regular. I've never had a big appetite and never seem to eat enough calories though because everything I eat is pretty healthy and I get pretty sick when I eat too much At once. I eat about 1,500 calories a day but I'm a competitive cheerleader/tumbler so train 3 hours a day. I'm mostly muscle. And no I don't have an eating disorder, I just have a sensitive stomach and I'm NOT trying to loose weight. I love food lol.

Alright well now that you know everything you have to know about me: is 100 oz of water a day too much for a female 5'2 105 pounds? And why have I been so thirty? Thanks!

Am i drinking too much water?

Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.

Several approaches attempt to approximate water needs for the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate.

Replacement approach. The average urine output for adults is about 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) a day. You lose close to an additional liter of water a day through breathing, sweating and bowel movements. Food usually accounts for 20 percent of your total fluid intake, so if you consume 2 liters of water or other beverages a day (a little more than 8 cups) along with your normal diet, you will typically replace the lost fluids.
Eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Another approach to water intake is the "8 x 8 rule" — drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day (about 1.9 liters). The rule could also be stated, "drink eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day," as all fluids count toward the daily total. Though the approach isn't supported by scientific evidence, many people use this basic rule as a guideline for how much water and other fluids to drink.
Dietary recommendations. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.
Even apart from the above approaches, if you drink enough fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and produce 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or slightly yellow urine a day, your fluid intake is probably adequate.

Well, I'm sick, I don't know if its the flu, (I have headache, high temp, dry cough, sore throat, chills, and then I get really hot. It's gone away mostly (only dry cough) and I have drinking a lot of water. I haven't been drinking glass after glass, but I think its been about 8 or 9 glasses. I don't know how many ounces my glasses are. I had tortilla soup earlier today, which had A LOT of salt. I love to drink water and I am always thirsty now. So am I drinking too much? I am still kind of thirsty...

thats what, 3.5L? thats a bit more than your recommended daily intake of water alone.

The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

so maybe you should tone down the water a little bit.

1. Ingesting more water than you need can increase your total blood volume. And since your blood volume exists within a closed system - your blood circulatory system - needlessly increasing your blood volume on a regular basis puts unnecessary burden on your heart and blood vessels.
2. Your kidneys must work overtime to filter excess water out of your blood circulatory system. Your kidneys are not the equivalent of a pair of plumbing pipes whereby the more water you flush through your kidneys, the cleaner they become; rather, the filtration system that exists in your kidneys is composed in part by a series of specialized capillary beds called glomeruli. Your glomeruli can get damaged by unnecessary wear and tear over time, and drowning your system with large amounts of water is one of many potential causes of said damage.

however that info is for what happens when you drink a bit more water than you...but still, you might want to tone down the water intake a little bit unless you do some serious exercising or live in the desert.

take care

Am I drinking too much water?

STOP IT! That is way too much water: 27 to 33 cups of liquid a day is WAY too much. You're diluting all of your bodily fluids (including your blood and lymph), so they are not efficient and not doing their job (bringing nutrients and oxygen to your cells, removing waste and fighting infection). You're also overworking your kidneys and bladder. And, perhaps most importantly, you're throwing your electrolytes way off. Electrolytes help regulate your heart. Don't mess with any of these critical-to-life systems.

Am I drinking too much water?

Today, I drank over two gallons of water. Half a gallon in less than 90 minutes. This morning I woke up with an insane thirst, and it wouldn't go away. I do drink about 8 cups of water on a regular basis, so I don't think it's water debt. I don't do drugs, so it couldn't have been that. I'm 16, weighed around 168 in the morning, and I weigh 172 as of tonight. I'm also 5'4, and not exactly active. Could I have diabetes?

Am I drinking too much water?

that is TERRIFIC!

water is one of the basic elements of nutrition we all need. drinking water (as opposed to sodas, energy drinks, etc.) is super!

during exercise and other strenuous types of activity, drinking plenty of water is not only good for you - it's essential!

water hydrates all the organs in your body, aids in the removal of all bodily wastes, and provides essential elements needed for good health.

while it is possible to 'drink' too much water (there was a woman in california who died performing the feat as part of a radio station's on-air contest) it is highly unlikely. the amount necessary for this to occur is something like 5-8 gallons in a very short period of time.

the amount you are drinking is more than most people would be able to consume, but well within 'safe' limits. you are not about to 'drown' (drinking too much water?!) because - you are aware of your actions and most likely paying attention to any signals your body is probably giving you re: too much.

in short, you are fine - and to be commended for your choice of beverage and your awareness of your own health.

good luck. have fun! be well.

Normally a lot water is very good for you, but if you also have a low sodium intake, the concentration of sodium outside your cells will become too low, and to make up for it, the cells will lose some of the sodium to reach an equilibrium with their environment.

Also when you work out, you sweat, and when you sweat you lose sodium.

Most people intake too much sodium in their diet and don't exercise enough so it stays in their body and causes them to retain water weight.

You should continue drinking water and working out because they are very healthy for you, but you may want to see your doctor and ask for blood work (it's not painful or scary as people will have you believe, lol) to measure the concentration gradient of sodium in your body. If it's too low, you should try eating healthy snack that have a little salt in them such as low fat popcorn or lightly salted nuts.

Am I drinking too much water?

Only 8 cups.. that's nothin.... sunday.... i drunk probably close to 2 gallons of water

I had a headache though... from dehydration.

Water is very important.... very very important... it detoxifies your body....keep your cells alive... and works other marvelous wonders
No water= No life
Getting more than enough water is much better than not getting enough water

Your brain is composed of mostly water..... and when you become dehydrated it starts to shrink and pull away from the skull..... this will cause severe headaches..... and is what i experienced last sunday

Now dont get me wrong.... if 8 glasses caused you to go through all that.... than cut back a little.. FOR NOW.... start off with like 5 or 6 glasses a day..... then your work your way up to 8 or more glasses a day
