Am I Gonna Catch The 24 Hour Stomach Flu

Do I have the Stomach Flu?

I have a burning in my stomach. I have not been able to hold anything down today; feel very tired; hot flashes; no fever; no energy; slight headach. If it is stomach flu how long is this going to last?

Can I catch the stomach bug by hugging someone briefly?

Hi everyone, hypochondriac here.
I went to see my little cousin's school musical tonight, and learned halfway through from his sister that he was violently ill with the 24 hour bug yesterday. After the play when he came out to thank us for coming, I of course had to give him a hug. Now, while the worry-wart in me would never have done that normally if I'd known someone had the bug, I had to hug him and tell him he did a wonderful job. As far as I know, he hadn't thrown up today, and the hug was brief. Now of course I'm worried I'm going to catch the bug! I know you're contagious a few days after you've stopped vomiting, and I have also heard that the virus can only be passed from hand-to-mouth contact if he hadn't washed his hands after going to the bathroom or vomiting. I came home and washed my hands multiple times and changed my clothes. Am I worrying way too much? Or could I still be at risk? Thank you!

If you sat next to someone who had the Stomach Flu, can you catch it?

I'm a huge germaphobe with a fear of vomiting, and on Monday, my friend missed most of her classes because she had the stomach flu (she threw up). I sat next to her for about fifty minutes during a school assembly. She didn't cough on me, although she definitely breathed on me. It's been roughly forty eight hours since she got sick, and over forty eight hours since I sat next to her. I only talked to her for a moment today, long enough to find out she got sick, after which I promptly went to wash my hands. I felt a little sick yesterday and this morning, but now I feel mostly fine (although I have a headache because I started hyperventilating a little, and my stomach hurts a little. But it is lunchtime and I haven't eaten yet, so that could be the cause).

So, explanation aside, if I sat next to her for 50 minutes, but she didn't vomit on me or cough on me, and we didn't share utensils or food or anything, and I haven't thrown up yet, am I ok? Is there still a high chance that I will get sick? My school nurse thinks I should be fine, but she's used to reassuring me that I won't get sick. I can be forgetful when it comes to washing my hand and putting them near my face, but I try to remember whenever I can.

Thanks for putting up with the paranoia of a Germaphobe XP

Can a stomach flu turn into a head cold?

I had what I thought was the 24 hour flu yesterday and I expected it to be gone by today, which it is. However, I now have head cold symptoms. Ex: Plugged ears, stuffed up nose, and sore throat.

Thanks!

Fear of getting the stomach flu?

That totally sounds like me except i am worse! It is called emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and it controld my life (Nearly 14 years old). Recently my brother got sick and vomited. I totally freaked and ran around outside shaking and screaming and I would not let anybody near me. It sounds silly now but it was totally real at the time. I am paranoid about things like the stomach flu and will wait a week before I will rule out that I have/haven't caught it. I am too scared to even eat whats put on the table for me as I am too scared that it will not havebeen cooked properly and then I could get sick.

Everytime somebody gets sick, I will go outside and get as much fresh air as possible. Also I will take lots of vitamins and healthy foods. I take a shower and wash my hands heaps (even though it gets rid of the ggod bacteria too, it makes me feel better lol) and not use/touch anything they have been near. Maybe try to use a different bathroom and get them to just use a certain bathroom or be confined to one or two rooms that you can dodge easily. You could get ready for bed in the kitchen (use the sink etc.) cos then you wouldn't have to go into the bathroom. I wouldn't go into the bathroom either lol.

I have to take Fluoxetine (prozac) to manage my anxiety around this phobia. Also I take it for my other anxiety disorders. I have been seeing a councellor for nearly two years because of this too.

Maybe you would benefit from seeing a therapist? It is up to you and your judgement as to whether you would like to/need to do this.

With my therapist we do a thing called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and also exposure therapy which helps to some extent.

Good Luck and look on the bright side. Your dad may just have a bad case of food poisoning!

=)

Boyfriend has the stomach flu, will i get it?

My poor boyfriend has been throwing up all morning. I wasn't with him yesterday during the day and i wasn't with him this morning when he started to get sick, but i was with him yesterday morning before he went to work and kissed me goodbye. I normally would not be really worried about this but i start school this Monday and i can't afford to get sick. What are my chances that i will also get sick? Also i want to go see him today and bring him some food but I'm not sure if that's a good idea even though he said he's feeling better, how long will he be contagious?

I had stomach flu yesterday. Is it okay to eat pizza?

I am going to disagree with everyone. I love pizza - it is my favourite food, and just eating it gives me a pick-me-up.So, after I have been ill, I always eat pizza. I might leave the chillis off, and the oilier toppings, but a ham, pineapple and mushroom pizza will do just fine.Like most people of European descent, I am not lactose-intolerant, so I usually have a drink of milk with it too.Listen to your body - it will tell you what to eat. I have never ever vomited after pizza. Even when I gave myself campylobacter poisoning, I could still eat a slice (moral of that tale: always be respectful of a mushroom and soft cheese pate which has been accidentally left out of the fridge for a bit).Edit: I forgot the time I reacted to the wheat in a pizza which made me quite ill due to occasional food intolerances caused by hEDS. I usually eat cauliflower crust pizzas now.
