Some of the swelling can just be the natural result of standing or sitting most of the day- because frankly gravity works. Most people will have "fatter" feet and ankles in the evening, after a day at work or school. Part of the problem may be that you have little activity in the lower legs during your waking hours, especially if you are spending most of those hours sitting at a desk. You can also compound the problem by sitting with the legs crossed, which decreases the blood flow to and from the lower leg. The easiest way to combat it is to get up and move around, or at least get the lower legs moving around every hour or so- even propping them up level if possible. One other thing to consider would be how tight your shoes and socks are. Those also can contribute to a decrease in circulation. I work on my feet all day, so I have the swollen toe/foot aggrivation sometimes. To help combat it, I wear support hose. Yeah, they aren't the most attractive thing in the world, but they help because they massage my legs as I am walking around. It's not a great aid in the summer, when it's hot- though. And knee highs are not an answer either, because the elastic will hit at the knee where it will still cut off some circulation. So the help is still getting them up and moving, as much as you can.

How did you determine that you lost no weight? How often, and when did you weigh yourself? I normally weigh myself daily, throw out the highest and lowest in a week (or sometimes the two highest and lowest if they are obvious outliers) and take the average of the rest to compare week-to-week, but that requires tracking over two full weeks in order to get one week’s loss - and there��s still some inaccuracy.Another thing to understand, by the way, is that fat loss and water loss are related in two ways. First of all, fat metabolism results in H2O and CO2 as it’s byproducts. The weight loss due to burning fat occurs when you excrete those byproducts. Also, fat cells contain water in addition to fat molecules, and there’s a balance that has to be maintained, so when fat molecules are broken down and the H2O and CO2 byproducts cross the cell membrane on their way to being excreted, some additional H2O goes along with it in order to keep the balance right. So as a result, it’s actually fair to say that fat loss and water weight loss go together with each other, so when someone says something like “It’s just water weight”, I take that with a grain or two of salt.

When you gain weight, can you feet get fatter too (from actual fat, not water retention)?

I've gained a lot of weight recently (from 135 pounds to about 180) and can't fit into most of my old pairs of shoes. I don't think it's from fluid retention, though. I know this sounds weird, but is it possible for someone to actually store extra body fat in their feet when they gain weight? My feet used to be pretty skinny and now it's like they're covered in a layer of fat and you can't even feel the underlying bone. Will they go back to normal if I lose the weight? Help!

If you want to lose fat and not just water weight, i've got some tips for you. Take action on them and you will see results.

There is so much false information going around about weight loss. Some is decent advice but most of it is horrible(like starving yourself or other harmful things)

The most important thing for fat loss, is that your diet is as natural and unprocessed as possible. It almost always comes back to the over processing of food that makes it bad for you, and makes it totally destroy your metabolism and hormone balance in your body. For example, why eat refined grains, when you can eat whole grains. Why eat refined sugar, when you can get natural sources of sugar from a high nutrient whole food like fruit. Why eat highly processed, refined, and hydrogenated vegetable oils (these are THE worst thing in the modern diet), when you can eat natural sources of healthy fats like nuts, avocados, fish, eggs, coconut milk, organically raised meat, and so forth. The point is to not fall for some gimmick like low carbs, low fat, high protein, or any other combination that has you focusing on one macronutrient vs. another. Your body needs all macronutrients to thrive and obtain a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. Trying to cut an entire food group out just works against what your body needs.

Just be persistent, set goals, make little changes and stick with them. Don't count calories, it will drive you crazy. Just stop eating when your satisfied. You will get to where you want to be.
