Am I Taking Too Much Of The Vitamin Biotin

Is taking too many vitamins bad for you?

Yes and no. For most of your baser vitamins, anything your body does not need will be purged through your urine. There are a few you can overdose on. As long as you keep it below the following levels, there won't be any damage. Going over these levels can cause a myriad of dangerous side effects, including liver and heart damage.

Vitamin A Overdose = 25000 IUs (5x the recommended daily amount) or higher causes liver damage, hair loss, blurred vision, headaches
Vitamin C Overdose = according to science, it is not possible to overdose on C, but taking far too much can cause stomach pain or diarrhea
B6 = 400 mg or more (200x the recommended daily amount) or higher causes numbness and lameness
B12 = according to science, no concern for overdose
Biotin = no concern for overdose, any overly high amounts are expelled through sweat and urine - at worst, if you overdose, you will find yourself sweating and urinating more often than usual
Calcium = 1000 to 1200 mg is recommended, overdose can cause hypercalcemia, a condition which can damage kidneys and reduce the efficacy of other vitamins and nutrients
D3 = 50000 IUs (125x the recommended daily amount) can cause calcium build up that can lead to heart tissue damage and the malfunctioning of muscles - this cannot happen if you get your D from the sun, as you will never overdose on "natural" Vitamin D

Just looking over your list, you seem to be doing okay. Hope that helps.

Am I taking too many vitamins?

You're definitely taking far too much vitamin A and E, which can be dangerous to your health in excess. The recommended daily intake for vitamin A is 2,600 IU and 12 IU for vitamin E. Anything over 10,000 IU with vitamin A can cause adverse health effects, so I would definitely stop taking the vitamin A capsule. You can try to get more vitamin A from your diet by eating foods like: chicken, turkey, eggs, spinach, apples, peaches, lemons, oatmeal, and broccoli. Try eating more of those instead of taking the A capsule. As for vitamin E, stop taking the capsule as well and try to eat foods like : peanut butter, nuts and seeds, broccoli, and kiwi fruit. Vitamins A and E, as well as D and K are fat-soluble, which means they are stored in the body, and too much supplementation can cause "overdosing", which can damage your liver. It's usually better to try to look for these vitamins in the foods you eat instead of through a pill.

Biotin is water-soluble, so it is flushed out of your body via urine everyday. It's safe to take, and I recommend it. I take it for healthy hair and skin, and have noticed a difference.

You are also taking a bit too much zinc. I would stop taking the tablet, as the recommended daily intake for a woman your age is 8 mg of zinc. Anything over 40 mg per day is dangerous, as it inhibits copper, iron and magnesium absorption. Try eating foods with a good zinc content such as seafood, cashews, almonds, and yogurt, and skip the zinc tablet.

The fish oil supplement is fine, and you could even include more fish in your diet to gain more fish oil. Just don't go over 3 servings of fish per week, to avoid mercury poisoning.

In general, the multi-vitamin you're taking seems fine, just stop taking the vitamin A and E supplements. See a nutritionist or a doctor if you're still concerned you're deficient in A or E, and they will recommend a healthy amount to supplement.

Hope this helped! :)

How much biotin is safe for a teen to take?

The body is constantly trying to achieve balance in so many ways. Biotin, is a water soluble "B" vitamin, vitamin H (B7).

Biotin is necessary for cell growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of fats and amino acids. It plays a role in the Citric acid cycle, which is the process by which biochemical energy is generated during aerobic respiration. Biotin not only assists in various metabolic reactions, but also helps to transfer carbon dioxide. Biotin is also helpful in maintaining a steady blood sugar level. Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails. Consequently, it is found in many cosmetic and health products for the hair and skin.

Deficiency is extremely rare, as intestinal bacteria generally produce an excess of the body's daily requirement. Taking it orally in pill form can cause an imbalance in all the "B" vitamins and is not advised. The best way to get this vitamin is to make sure you have good intestinal flora. Taking antibiotics kills the intestinal flora and will destroy the body's ability to make this vitamin and other "B" vitamins. Eating fermented foods is an excellent way of replenishing the intestinal flora.

The "B" vitamins you purchas in stores are ALL made from the petroleum distillate, coal tar and are dead chemical activators, not true vitamins. This will damage your DNA and should not be taken this way, regardless of what you have been told.

good luck to you

Biotin: 1000 mcg & D3: 5000 IU?

Biotin...perfectly safe...generally non toxic. To be toxic, we're talking like grams per pound of body weight taken. Medically speaking (at least looking at the nutritional guide I have..which is like 10 years old) there are no known cases of Biotin toxicity. Your natural gut flora produce biotin all the time, so your body is fully capable of using or excreting any and all of it. In fact, due ot the crap food we sometimes eat today, it can throw the body's probiotics out of whack, and most folks are likely to have a biotin deficiency. And multi-vitamins are usually woefully deficient in it (Vitamin K, Biotin, Folic Acid, Magnesium, Calcium...those are the main nutrients most multi-vitamins lack much of...Vitamin K and Biotin your gut flora can make, but if they're out of balance you're in short supply...and Magnesium you'd get from green veggies, while Calcium you'd get from lean dairy, nuts, veggies, and protein by gnawing on bones some.)

You don't have to time or regulate the biotin. 1000mcg once or twice daily...perfectly fine...with or without meals...whenever.

The vitamin D, however, 5000 IU's... FIVE THOUSAND ... that's is a crazy ****-load of Vit D to be taking. Usually anything over 400 IU per day is considered pushing toxicity. Biotin is a water-solulable vitamin, so your body can piss it right out (as it can with B & C vitamins). But A, D, E, K are fat solulable, meaning the body has a harder time excreting them.

The average multi-vitamin has 400IU D in it...plus sun exposure will make your skin for more...plus drinking Vit A & D fortified milk will get you more... and some multi-vitamins give you more than just 400 IU ... most folks are pushing a Vit D toxicity just by taking a multi-vitamin.

Signs of Vit D toxicity... headaches (big one for me), painful joints, nausea, noctural urination (bed-wetting while asleep), muscular weakness and calcification of soft tissue.

If you're working the grave-yard shift, then a multi-vitamin with 400IU of D can be useful. Otherwise, I would find a multi-vitamin that just has 200 IU.

If you have a serious D deficiency, then 1000 IU for a week or so will make up for that. But then cut back.
