Is it too late to join gymnastics at age 14?

Haha, don't listen to Kate. 14 is definitely not too old to start. As a matter of fact many girls start tumbling around that age because they want to do tumbling for high school cheerleading. I started tumbling for cheerleading at age 14. I could do standing back handsprings and round off back handsprings on a hard surface by the time I was 15. I could do standing tucks, round off back handspring tucks, and layouts on hard surfaces by the time I was 16. Heck, I've known people who joined the adult gymnastics team at age 22 who had no prior tumbling experience, and within a year could do level 7 moves on the floor. So I would say definitely give it a try. Even if you don't make the cheerleading team, tumbling is still a lot of fun.

Is 13 Too Old To Start Gymnastics?

It depends what you want out of it. If you are looking to be an elite gymnast and have dreams of the Olympics then you are going to get easily discouraged right from the start because it is too late for that. The latest I've ever heard of an Olympian starting was age 9 (Alicia Sacramone). However, there is a lot more that can be done with gymnastics. If you find that you have a natural talent for it and are able to stick it through for the next five years, it is possible to make a college team. Now this is still unlikely as most college teams require a minimum of level 9 gymnastics and many have elite gymnasts but its a more reasonable goal then the Olympics. But even of making a college team is out of reach or even if you don't want to compete at all, there are still a lot of benefits of gymnastics. It is a great form of exercise. You really won't find anything better. It can teach self discipline and self respect. Its a great way o make friends for life as well. I would recommend finding a gym that offers beginner level classes for older starters. Nothing is going to hurt your ego more or discourage you then having a four year old show you up doing cartwheels!

Can I start gymnastics at 15?

Of course you can :-). If you want to improve your condition and learn fun new skills you can start gymnastics at any age.Top-level artistic gymnastics will in most cases not be possible. These gymnasts usually start at ages 5 or 6, but there usually are other levels where starting at an older age is definitely possible. And of course artistic gymnastics isn’t the only kind of gymnastics out there. Other branches like Acrobatic Gymnastics and Trampolining offer opportunities for older starters who are talented and driven. I’ve had a 15 year old girl join my team. She competed until she was 23 and is now a coach herself. The trampolining-coach at my club only started when he was 17.So go for it! :-)

Am I too fat and old to start gymnastics?

I am young girl wanting to join gymnastics. But I'm afraid that I'm way too overweight and old for it. I'm 5'1 and 155 lbs and I'm almost 12. Pretty sure that his classifies as overweight but not quite sure. Also, when I was little, I was in tumbling for about 3-4 months but after hurting my ankle, I sobbed and said I never wanted to do gymnastics again. So now I'm afraid that she will say no to having to pay for another tumbling class for me that I might possibly quit in future events. Can anyone help me out?

Is senior year too late for me to join gymnastics?

well it's too late for you to go and do anything serious with it but if you just want to do it for fun then go for it! Gymnastics is a fun sport and it can be just an extra thing....you don't have to go to the olympics with it or anything. Who knows maybe you'll catch on quickly and you can do college cheerleading :)

Am I too old to start Rhythmic Gymnastics?

I just turned 26 years old. I'm 5' 9" and 103lbs. My health has been suffering for a year and i have barely any flexibility, and I think that more exercise would be good for me and might improve my health. When I was younger I did all types of sports including gymnastics, taeqwondo, dance etc. but then I went off to college and that is where those things ended for me. I was hoping to start an interesting sport. I'm not looking to compete in tournaments but I was hoping to start private rhythmic gymnastics classes with my old dance school (because I think the beginner classes are for kids and teens). I feel like my age really holds me back for things and it is really depressing. I was just wondering, is it a rediculous idea? Am I just too old for anything interesting anymore including rhythmic gymnastics? This world seems so age bias, and I understand it is because of the long years of training. But I used to be one of those people who believed I could do anything, anyone could be anything they wanted to be. But now it seems like I'm just too old for anything. I'm in my 20s and I'm supposed to feel young but I feel like I'm ancient already. I think it would really help my health and flexibility. I understand the work that is involved and I'm not blinded to the reality that I'm too old for competitions, but am I just to old for it? It's such a beautiful sport and I would like to be a part of it, even with just the basics. Thanks.
