Am I Too Tall To Be A Dancer

Am i too tall to dance?

I hate dance stereotypes. I've got really big boobs and generous butt. Am I too curvy to dance? By some people's standards I guess I am. But I do it anyway, and I'm good at it too. You are definitely not too tall to dance. I dance with a girl about your height, she is amazing...and also the most flexible person I have ever met! Honestly, she started this year with no previous training at all and can lift her leg up to her head. Flexibility is completely independent of height, I know some tall people who can't get their legs up past about 90degrees if they are really really trying. You can always work to improve it anyway.

Height doesn't affect how you dance. It might make it a little harder to find a partner, but that's pretty much it and if you aren't doing ballroom or pas de deux it really doesn't matter anyway. If people have a problem with it, then that's what it is, their problem, not yours. You'll be doing what you love and that's all that matters! :) Go for it!

Many dancers are short. However, you will look a lot more graceful [unless you're gangly and awkward] on stage. In hip-hop, you may feel silly, but you'll be totally fine! If you do ballet, you'll look amazing, unless you're too skinny and unusual. However, I'm taller than most at my studio. They said that I would get picked over all of the other ballerinas at my studio because of my height. Of course, my dancing has to be topnotch also, but they really like when tall dancers look graceful! Good luck!

Am i too tall to be a dancer!!?

your defiantly not to tall, but the major thing that you have going for you is that even though you are tall you are thin so that will help you alot with ballet and balancing as well as modern. It all depends if you want to do it professionally or just for fun. Though most kids at your age are already training at a pro level by the time they are 13 if they want to be a professional dancer. But if your doing it just for enjoyment then go for it you can never be too old or to tall.

Am i too tall to dance?

Haha. Absolutely not. A lot of girls wish they were tall like you. Have you heard that JB & The Moonshine Band song "Perfect Girl"? He says his perfect girl would be 5 foot 11 smells like heaven lets him do what he wants 24/7. You can dance if you're tall. I think being tall would help you in some ways. It would probably make you stand out better.

13 and only 5'1. Am I too short to be a dancer ?

Apparently, tall dancers are preferred over short ones. Why do I need to know if i'm too short ? Because I dream of being a professional dancer and my father said that if that's what I want to do, then we can move back to Russia so I can go to a very prestigious dance school. I did the audition a month ago and I made it in. They told me that they'll understand it if I change my mind about going though, because it'd mean moving back to Russia, a huge change, etc.

But I know that if I choose to stay in Australia my dream will not come true (The Australian Ballet can only take you so far). It's a really huge decision, and I really want to go (it's one of the very best dance schools in all of Russia and leads directly to Russia's best dance company). The only problem is, what if I don't become a ballerina ? It's not that I can't dance, it's that I think they prefer taller dancers and I don't know if i'm going to grow or not. If I've already stopped growing, there's probably no chance that i'll ever be a ballerina, which will mean that I changed my whole life for nothing.

What should I do ?!
If I choose to go, I'll have to go in 2 weeks.

That’s not true. If you like to dance do it, your height doesn’t matter at all. You say you ‘feel’ most good dancer are short, let’s say they are, since your tall be a great dancer then the short girls (no offense to them). But anyways you could be a great dancer for you height. Heights absolutely doesn’t define your dancing to be good or not as good. If you wanna be a good dancer you have to make it happen not heights. I bet you’ll do great. I’m also 5’6 and I dance and I also took hip hop before and I think I’m pretty well at dancing if I may say so my self and I’m putting it that way Bc I don’t like to brag lol <3

Am I too tall to be a professional dancer?

You certainly are not too tall for dancer. FYI ballet dancers can be as tall as 5' 7" or 5' 8" tall in most ballet companies and dancers in the theater can be even taller than that. However, there is no such thing as professional lyrical dance, and for ballet you would have to be almost company ready at your age. 16 is when training is expected to be complete and you would apprentice with a professional ballet company, so that is out.
To become any kind of professional dancer, you need to be born with the body, facility and musicality that a dance career requires. Then you need the right training. Ballet training is essential for all genre of dance that you would use in musical theater except tap, so you still need strong ballet skills but not on the same level as a professional ballet dancer. While professional ballet dancers in training take 20-30 hours of ballet technique classes a week year round, other genre of dance requires a little less. Anything less than 15 hours a week of technique training is considered recreational dance training and wont due. Most of the training should be in ballet classes. Then when you have built enough strong ballet technique, you can add theater dance and/or jazz and even modern dance. Tap can be started at any time and will give you more versatility for work.

Am I too tall to become a professional dancer..?

I have danced and done cheerleading for a long time and loved it soooo so so much! I really wanted to go pro and be a backup dancer for something major, make it on broadway, somethin like that..
but I havent been dancing for like 5 months because now I think ill never make it since im over 5'10 :( i am rlly slender, naturally and i have a dancer's body (long & lean) but I feel like I have no hope because i feel so tall and awkward ever since I hit my growth spurt.

all everyone talks about is how tall I am !! & everyone thinks Im taller than I really am (like 6'2 or somethin!)
& it makes me very awkward and insecure. I feel like I've given up... should I really lose all hope?
