Am I Wrong For Making A Simple Mistake

Making mistakes as a Paralegal?

have been a Paralegal for two years, and I still find myself making silly mistakes on occasion. I think for the most part I do good work, and I truly care about my job. Occasionally though, I still miss a check mark on a form, have a typo in a letter, or the last big screw was as follows:

I sent out a contract engagement letter with a typo in the file number. It was one number off. As a result, money came back and was associated with the wrong client leading to an accounting nightmare. It wasn't pretty. I also had double checked this letter, and still missed the error!

Are there any other Paralegals on here that experience occasional mistakes at work? It seems like the standard is perfection all the time, but it is hard to acheive it!

Also, is it okay for your supervising attorney to catch these mistakes occasionally or is it your opinion that the Paralegal should present them with perfect documents so that they don't have to review them?

Any advice from fellow Paralegals would be greatly appreciated!

My parents yell at me for making mistakes?

I'm 20 yrs. old. I still live with my parents, they're really good to me too but they still get angry at me for the smallest things. I can't date (because my culture doesn't allow it), I can't go out on my own because apparently I haven't learned to drive yet. I'm trying to learn driving though. I feel like everyone around me is already ten steps ahead and I still don't know how life goes! I feel dumb at times because there's people younger than me who know how to do things that I can't. I'm always afraid that things go wrong too. AND THEY DO. My parents make me even more anxious because they don't give me space. I'm kind of the stay home girl who can't even visit a friends house. My mom thinks people shouldn't be trusted. I agree, but not everyone Is bad. I can have people over my house though. My sisters are a little bratty and always make fun of me. Well they take honor classes in school & show off about it... just because I wasn't always the smartest at school. I still got talents i like to do. My sister's are nice at times but don't really like talkinh to me at all & think I'm dumb or weird. I always feel like this loser who is worth nothing and every time I try to pick myself back up, someone always puts me down. I don't really have anyone there to remind me that i am worth it. I just want things to change.

I keep making careless mistakes at work!?

I don't understand what is going on with me, but I have been making some very careless mistakes at work. It's already bad enough that I got off to a bad start with this company, and I am sure they have already labeled me as the "airhead". It could be something as simple as an email where I would address the sender by the wrong name or attach the wrong document. I am in a professional position so there are no excuses for this. Its like I know they think so badly of me that I do very little to change their perception of me, its like my body is at work, but my mind is somewhere else. Luckily, I have a very patient manager, and so far he has not made a big deal about my mistakes, but I think my luck is starting to run out. I really need my job, and I am starting to have self doubts about myself. Mind you, I have over eight years of experience, and never had this type of problem with any of my other employers.

Why am I making spelling mistakes on words which I know how to spell? (please read description)

So, I may be entirely wrong. But apart from anxiety I have another theoryThere have been many small instances in my life when I've forgotten the spelling of a very simple word. This is random and extremely odd because these are words that ... I mean ... I forgot how to spell "with" I went on trying variations of WHIT OR WIHT. In such cases I've sort of been able to help myself by writing it down and then it sort of "looks" correct to me. My mind was able to associate how the word "looked" not spelled. Now here you have stated you changed your handwriting. I don't know how dramatically different it is. But your focus on the style has probably removed your familiarity with the "look" of the word. Which has in turn removed your focus on the spellingAnother theoryHave you ever painted a sign in LARGE letters? It is extremely easy to miss a letter while doing so. Cause your focus is on each letter. You sort of forget what the next letter should be. I've made this mistake quite often while trying my hand at calligraphy or while making a chart for a school project and stuff. One last thing. Don't worry so much. My parents have terrible handwriting. They're also doctors but I'm sure that doesnt have anything to do with it.... I'm sure. Yeah... I'm sure. Anyway, they've got through life just fine. Nobody cares that much about handwriting. And in today's world of texting seeing correct spelling is almost a blessing. So to find someone focused on improving it is good news for me, but its not worth worrying over. Im certain you'll get over it once you're comfortable with your new writing style.

What am I doing wrong with this simple Spanish sentence?

It should be "pónganse"

The subjunctive/imperative form of poner is irregular: ponga/pongas/ponga/pongamos, etc.

In Spain, this sentence would be "Niños, poneros la ropa antes de ir a la escuela" (this is the reflexive imperative of the "vosotros" form of the verb, which is commonly used in Spain but never used in Latin America)

Why do I always make silly mistakes on simple tests and exams?

you are rushing through the test and not checking your work properlyi did that all the time on my chem tests in hs and my teacher told me that i am rushing too much in the beginning and am so much more likely to get one of the first 5 qs wrong than any other question.Read the question slowly and underline key directions and infotake your time when solvingcheck your work in three ways:check for common mistakes(if math), check by substituting your answer back into the equationsee if your answer makes logical sence

Do experienced mathematicians make mistakes in simple calculations?

Absolutely. One funny repeating story involved my topology professor in graduate school. He had kind of a severe personality. Fundamentally, I think he was a nice, helpful guy. But he tended to bark and scream his thoughts. He was an ex-Soviet mathematician, who didn’t have the, shall we say, soft touch that modern Americans have.Atypically for a Soviet mathematician, he would often make little mistakes in his lectures. He would flip signs, or make little arithmetic errors, or things of that nature. The funny part is what would happen when someone tried to correct him.Student: “Professor, is that supposed to be a negative sign there?”Professor: “WHAT!?? NO! Is correct!”Student: “But you said that two lines ago that [math]x[/math] is a…”Professor: “WHAT?! NO! Look again! Is correct!”Within a few minutes, the professor would paint himself into a corner, and would be confronted with the now-inescapable truth that something was wrong. It wouldn’t take long for him to go back and find the error. You’d expect one of two things to happen when he did: either he would (a) thank or apologize to the student who first pointed it out; or (b) do nothing, just move on. Obviously (a) is incorrect, but surprisingly, (b) is also incorrect.Instead, he would bark at the student who originally pointed the error out. “Ah, yes, negative! Of course! Negative sign, IS TRIVIAL! Yes yes yes, of course!”So the student loses twice: first, for being “wrong” about pointing out the error, and second, for being so worthless in pointing out such a trivial error!
