How much do authors actually make for each book sold?
Don't write a book just for rewards-- even if you do finish it, it is VERY difficult to get something published. You will face many rejections on that road, and very few authors ever make enough money doing it to quit their day jobs. However, if you love to write and see the process as it's own reward, then enjoy! I wish you the best.
AUTHORS - Experience with Bohlsen Group for PR Marketing? Scam or worth it?
A friend is ready to give a lot of money (won't give me an exact number) to the Bohlsen Group for marketing her poetry book. It is not anything special, in my opinion and even the cover doesn't say what it is - looks more like a photography book - so they didn't even guide her well on that. They have told her, "We could see you on the TODAY SHOW" and other such near impossible promises. Any honest PR person would say "We'll try" but no one can ensure anything nor should make those grand dreams in their head. Anyone used them before? What is the normal fee? I think I could do marketing for authors but would very fair and not get them dreamy eyed on the reality of their product.

The session fee is just to pay the photographer to show up and take the pictures. You will probably have to pay extra for the CD or for any additional prints you order from the photographer. He NEEDS to charge you for the CD because he will lose the profit potential of selling the prints, which is the usual money generator for a photographer's business.
