Ankle Swollen But No Pain

Swollen, painful, but not bruised ankle?

Ok so my right ankle is swollen, puffy and very painful but there is no discoloration. I don't believe there was one particular incident that cause it, I think it was strained from over use. It has gotten puffy and painful before, but this morning when I woke up and got out of bed and stepped down, there was a very sharp, acute pain much worse than before. And the whole day its had a very sharp acute pain. It is worse when i try to walk on it, although I can seem to tolerate putting minimal weight one it; i've been "limping" all day. Everytime i step on it is when the acute sharp pain happens. I'm not a doctor but if I had to guess whats wrong I would imagine its a tendon tear. The thing is there is no discoloration at all. Are there any doctors that can give me some advise?

Swollen, bruised, but no pain? Ankle.?

Normally I recommend ice, compression and elevation for the first 24-36 hours (Remember the initials I.C.E.) and then application of heat to move the swelling out of the joint. Of course, if it does not hurt at this point, nor is there much swelling then you are probably past the time where that will do any good. I would still wear compression to support the ankle and minimize any further problems. based on what you reported, it should be fine in about 2-3 days or so.

Why is my right ankle painful and swollen?

You should visit a qualified physician to find out the exact cause of the pain and the best method of treating it.You most likely have a sprained ankle, often caused by twisting or rolling your ankle in an unusual manner while walking. This often ends up damaging the ligaments supporting the ankle bones resulting in pain and discomfort in the region.Try laying off any activities that involve putting weight on the affected ankle in order to allow the injured ligament to heal and recover. For the swelling, application of an ice pack 10–15 minutes every hour should be helpful in bringing it down.If you’ve been spraining your ankle frequently, then try getting a foot evaluation done to determine if you have a flatfoot condition – that is, if your foot lacks a sufficient mid-curve.Once confirmed, then the regular use of MASS4D® foot orthotics can help in preventing ankle sprains by stabilising the foot arch and normalising the function of the foot/ankle complex.Read more about how MASS4D® can help in the treatment and prevention of ankle sprains here.

Right swollen foot and ankle with NO pain?

Okay I went to the doctor today. I have swollen foot and ankle for two weeks, no pain, no black and blue, just puffy. It will go up and down...the puffiness.

I went to the doctor today because I wanted to check for a blood clot...and good news NONE after the ultrasound....so I am left curious as to why my right foot and ankle swell up off and on.

I elevate and ice but they swell up off and up. I am heading back to the doctor tomorrow to establish a patient basis there.

Anybody care to throw out some advice, experiences, or what you may think it is?

I drink far too much pop but have all my life so I don't think that would happen all of a sudden due to that, and I watch my salt too.

Just kinda lost I guess.

It's been 6 days now since I sprained my ankle and it’s swollen and bruised with a little pain. Is this normal?

On numerous occasions, I’ve seen clients that have sprained their ankle, completed multiple visits in physical therapy and they still have a considerable amount of swelling.By definition, a sprain is a tear to a ligament. Ligaments also have a poor blood supply. Which means that they will take longer to heal.Another thing that I’ve consistently seen with clients that didn’t have a tremendous amount of pain but still have a lot of swelling weeks after they roll their ankle is that their shoes were forcing them to distribute more of their weight to the outside of their foot.Even without an injury, doing any activity in shoes that force you to the outside of your feet is not only much less efficient, you’re also more vulnerable to rolling your ankle. This scenario is more commonly seen with “stability” running shoes, running shoes where the cushioning system is worn out, or with any shoe that has orthotic inserts. All of which places more stress on the soft-tissues on the outside of your ankle.Even though you hear so much about ACL tears, the ligament that’s most often sprained is located at your ankle (i.e., the anterior talofibular ligament).Talo represents the talus. Which is a relatively small bone that is a component part of the two joints that make up your rear-foot. And fibular represents the fibula, the smaller of the two bones that make up your leg. Your fibula is also a component part of your ankle joint.

What causes swollen ankles without pain?

Helene is right, see your doctor. Swollen ankles are from fluid retention caused by standing or sitting too long, or from a compromised cardiac function. Certain medication can cause swelling of the ankles and legs (ie. Gleevec).

Can my ankle be sprained even if it's not swollen?

Yes, your ankle can be sprained if it’s not swollen. The swelling of a sprained joint is caused by the accumulation of fluids in the soft tissue surrounding the joint. These fluids may leak from the injured joint capsule or damaged blood vessels. If there is no leakage, or if the fluids are drained in some other way, there may be no swelling.Swelling, then, is no indication of injury. The usual home treatment for sprains is RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. But I’m not a doctor, so I can’t diagnose you. If you have trouble going about your normal life, go see a doctor.

Can you sprain your ankle with no pain?

Just really less painful really. If you are really pushing hard and adrenaline is pumping. You may feel a slight sharp pull but ignore it and you carry on, it is bearable.Sometime later as you return to normal, the swelling begins and you start feeling pain, immense pain. You may not even walk for a while.

I met with an accident and got my feet and ankle swollen (not fractured). How can I cure it?

Remember RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.Rest means try not to use it until the swelling is gone.Ice means ice it several times a day for 15–20 minutes each.Compression means use a compression bandage, like an Ace bandage, fairly tight but not so tight you cut off blood flow.Elevation means to try to keep the injury elevated, ideally above the level of your heart, but even if sitting, at least so it’s not on the floor.Once the swelling and discoloration are gone, you can begin to gently begin using it.
