Another way of saying This Quote Means, or This shows. In a 10th grade research paper?

I know exactly what you mean here. You don't want to just give bald quotes without paraphrasing them, breaking them down, then giving your own views.

Here are a few lines you can use after quoting others. In other words, first write the quotation, then begin with one of these, as you explain/paraphrase the author's thoughts:

--According to Miller,....

--Miller claims....

--Miller argues....

--Miller states...

--In Miller's view,...

--Miller opines...

Mix them up like a good pitcher mixing up his pitches. Give the quote, then paraphrase it with one-three sentences of your own, including your own thoughts about the subject.

If you are writing an academic essay, you can use these alternatives:It seems to me that…I think that…I would argue that…I'm unconvinced that…Making concessions :Of course some / many people argueIt is sometimes argued..Clarifying an opinion:To be more precise..By this I mean…Here I'm referring to ..Hope it helps.
