Is it possible to develop acne after taking antibiotics?

Fungal acne can worsen through antibiotics. It is a form of acne that is not caused by yeast fungus instead of bacteria. Bacteria and fungus fight for space and food on your skin, so eliminating bacteria enables the fungus to proliferate. The fungus feeds of the fat produced by your skin. It can also feed on nearly all other oils used in skincare products, so most of those are harmful to fungal acne sufferes.Check out this amazing resource for more information, how to treat it and a useful product recommendations: Pityrosporum (Malassezia) Folliculitis Treatment: How to Kick Fungal Acne's Ass

Amoxicillin rash or allergic reaction?

Sorry both of your little ones are ill at the same time. Hope everyone gets well soon.

A mild rash can occur in individuals using amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic. This rash can manifest itself suddenly even after years of previously using amoxicillin to treat bacterial infections. There is also a rare but more serious allergy caused rash which requires medical intervention.

From your description, the rash mentioned for your son is not an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin, just a mild but uncomfortable side effect of the medication with no lasting effect. Ask your physician if you can treat your son with benadryl to relieve the itching discomfort while he is being treated with amoxicillin for the bacterial infection.

Is this the first your daughter has been treated with amoxicillin?

First time users of an antibiotic medication can suffer an allergic reaction to the medication, which for amoxicillin, includes many of the symptoms you have described your daughter exhibiting; rash, itching, and swelling of the face/tongue/throat. Even if this is not her first time being treated with amoxicillin, her physical reaction to the medication indicates she is suffering an allergic reaction. Your physician asking you to stop the treatment, treat your daughter with benadryl, then resume the treatment indicates he also recognizes her symptoms as an allergic reaction. The usual course of action is to have the patient stop taking the medication (amoxicillin) and for the physician to prescribe a different antibiotic to treat the bacterial infection. Definitely contact your physician again, and advise him of the continuing allergic response your daughter is exhibiting to the amoxicillin. This is a rare but serious situation, requiring the support of the physician to change her medication so she can recover from the bacterial infection.

Also, the medical allergy needs to be added to your daughter's medical charts, including dental, so she is not prescribed or given amoxicillin in the future.

How long does it take for skin, post allergic reaction, to heal?

This can take from minutes to weeks depending of the type of allergic reaction !There are at least 4 types of allergic reactions (Type 1 2 3 4) from fast (anaphylaxia) to very slow (tuberculin)see…. Effector mechanisms in allergic reactionsThe allergic response to innocuous antigens reflects the pathophysiological aspects of a defensive immune response whose physiological role is to protect against helminthic parasites. It is triggered by antigen binding to IgE antibodies bound to the high-affinity IgE receptor FcεRI on mast cells. Mast cells are strategically distributed beneath the mucosal surfaces of the body and in connective tissue. Antigen cross-linking the IgE on their surface causes them to release large amounts of inflammatory mediators. The resulting inflammation can be divided into early events, characterized by short-lived mediators such as histamine, and later events that involve leukotrienes, cytokines, and chemokines, which recruit and activate eosinophils and basophils. The late phase of this response can evolve into chronic inflammation, characterized by the presence of effector T cells and eosinophils, which is most clearly seen in chronic allergic asthma.

Bactrim allergy - timing and symptom question?

1] sounds exactly like an allergy to Sulfa drugs [ Bactrim included ].
My husband and son had the same reaction [ 23 years apart ]. Husband after one day; son after several [ five? ] days.
2] Stevens Johnson syndrome is much rarer though - many people have never heard of it.
3] Stevens Johnson syndrome involves rash that turn into vesicles [ blisters ] to start.
4] Other symptoms, before the rash occurs:
fever
sore throat
cough
burning in eyes
5] Symptoms with rash/vesicles:
facial swelling
tongue swelling

skin pain
Either way, NEVER take any sulfa drugs again.

Anyone ever take Levaquin antibiotic?

Stop taking it now!!!!!!!!! You are allergic to it, and so am I. It's rare but some people cant take it. I had a bad infection and in the hospital they hooked me up to an iv and gave me Levaquin and I started feeling anxious and panicky for no reason and I almost yanked it out my arm then a nurse ran in and gave me something to reverse it and told me she was allergic to Levaquin and she recognized that I was having a reaction. Stop taking it, they can give you something else.

If my wife is allergic to penicillin and i take something that has penicillin in it, can we have sex?

It depends how allergic she is. Is she anaphylactic or just have discomfort?

Anything that you put in your body can be excreted in your bodily fluids. If she has a mild to moderate allergy, she would probably be perfectly fine. If she's severely allergic, you may want to be a bit more careful. Maybe use a condom.

There are many other medications available that aren't penicillin. I have a mild allergy myself, and take different antibiotics. If your wife is severely allergic and you don't want to have them in the house or in your body, just tell your doctor and get a prescription for something else.

Another easy test is a little skin test. It might sound gross, but it's what they do in hospitals to see if your partner has an allergy to your semen. Just take a pin and make a few light scratches on her arm and rub a bit of semen on it. If it's red, inflamed, and itchy 15 minutes later then you may have problems.

Really though, I wouldn't fret too much. If your'e asking so you can go on a date night tonight and you're on a round of antibiotics, either use a condom or just make sure you keep tabs on how she's feeling in case a reaction happens. She will probably be fine though.

Can allergies cause a very sore throat?

I have been fighting severe allergies for the last four months. I have had rashes sore throats, aches and pains, constant dripping nose, itching burning eyes, eye infections ear infection, sinus infection, headaches, sinus pressure, etc. I have taken antibiotics and had a kenellog shot. I also recently found out that in addition to being allergic to multiple trees, grasses, flowers and cats, I'm also allergic to peanuts and soy.

Today I have a terrible sore throat and I'm wondering if that is due to my ongoing allergies or have I contracted something. I hate being sick and it's Saturday, i can't call my doctor until Monday if there is something wrong. I am terrified that I'm getting strep now or the flu. I moved in with my mom last week and she has two cats (both of which like to sleep on my bed) and I'm allergic to cats. Everything is in bloom around me as well. My allergies I'm sure are to blame for my dripping nose and itchy eyes but can they cause such a sore throat?? It seems a little severe to be caused from allergies. But I've also never had such terrible allergies before so I'm still trying to figuring this all out.
