LAST MINUTE ADVICE FOR PSAT?!?

Hey, I'm not a sophomore, but as a junior, I might be able to help you better.

Let me tell you something before I give you my advice...

You're a SOPHOMORE. Don't worry about it!! The PSAT does not count unless you are a junior who is taking it (like myself ~_~)

Besides that, the PSAT is NOT that important. Colleges will NEVER see your score on it. Plus, over the years, it has also become less indicative of your possible SAT score. So, don't take the PSAT scores that you get as a serious indication of your future SAT score.

The only thing that the PSAT counts for is a scholarship. The exam is formally called the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT, shortened to PSAT). This means that, in addition to being a practice for the SAT for juniors, it is a contest of sorts to win a scholarship (which is definitely helpful >.>). The better you do, the more likely that you will be nominated for it. If you were a junior and this was your scenario, then honestly, you still have nothing to worry about, because you're probably not going to win. Why? Because out there, in the US, there are students who actually STUDY and STUDY and STUDY for the PSAT. THEY are the ones who generally win, and unless you are an amazing well-rounded genius (I actually know one... =S), there's no chance you can beat those studious PSAT-takers.

And my advice essentially is: Try as hard as you can tomorrow, but don't feel dejected if you do badly. If you do very well, then jump for joy and celebrate and pat yourself in the back because you've just earned bragging rights as one of the smartest kids.

=)

What are some last minute tips for SAT?

-Practice as much as you can before the test. On the questions you got wrong, figure out WHY you got them wrong. Getting something wrong and not knowing why is just a waste of time. Learn from your mistakes so you know what to do if a question like that comes up.-Food! Eat a good, energizing breakfast. Bring food on test day. It'll keep you energized and sharp. If you're hungry, you won't be in your prime.-Get a good night's sleep. This is pretty obvious, but if you're tired, you're not going to be in the best shape. Study a little before bed and go to sleep earlier. -Make sure you have your admission ticket & anything else you need (pencils, calculators, etc.). Pack it into a bag the night before and set it by the door so you won't be rushing in the morning. -Set your alarm. DON'T be late on the test date. -With the current SAT, if you have no idea what the answer is and cannot eliminate any of the answer choices, just skip the question. Don't waste the time trying to figure this one out if there are other questions you haven't tried yet.-With the new (March 2016+) SAT, even if you don't know the answer, GUESS. There will be no penalty for wrong answers. It's better to just put down an answer and get a 25% chance of getting it right than to just leave it blank and have 0% chance of getting the point.-

My road test is tomorrow…any advice?

It's a judgment call. They can take points off because you didn't move up and they can take points off for moving up. But if the crossing guard is already in the middle of the street or you see him/her stopping traffic as you're pulling up to the corner, I would stay at the line.

I'm guessing you're probably on LI as NYC doesn't permit right turns on red.

Don't psych yourself out saying that you HAVE to pass on the first try. There are a lot of people who don't pass on the first try, even when they're proficient enough drivers. When you're being "graded" people get anxious and may make more mistakes than usual. So try to stay calm and relaxed.

Go over the manual one more time; go over everything when you're waiting for the proctor. Since your road test is near a school, also take into account that you MUST stop for a bus if the sign is up and/or the lights are flashing. This is true if you're behind the bus or just near the bus (across, perpendicular, whatever the cases is).

Any last minute advice for the patent-bar exam?

I would suggest starting 2 days before.  Why?  Here's why:Day 2: 2 days before your exam, you should be reviewing some facts, going through some questions, not getting stuck in the mud or worrying about answers.  If you find yourself getting bogged down, skip the question, move on.  This is time to push your energy forward. Night 2: This is your night to get rest.  A lot of people overlook this night, but 2 nights before any "event" is usually more important because it's the "set-up" for the next days to come.Day 1:  Maybe do a little reviewing, but by the afternoon, you should be shutting things down.  Call it "tapering" down.  Your brain needs time to chill and prepare for the 6 hours to come.  Prepare your lunch, pick out your clothes, make sure you have everything laid out and prepared for the next day (your ID, lunch, wallet, directions, cell phone).  Put gas in your car or have your transportation ready to go.  Literally, do everything possible to minimize your need to "think" and worry in the morning.  Print out some of your quick summary sheets (if you are using www.wysebridge.com) so you have something to review/brain dump at lunch.Night 2: Watch a movie.  Go for a walk.  Do something that will more likely allow your mind to relax and unwind. All the best!

What is the best advice you can you give a 16 year old sophomore in high school about to take his ACT for the first time?

My advice is to thoroughly review every last word of the ACT test taking advice offered on the ACT website, including what might constitute possible violations. Make sure you get a full and complete sleep the night before (no last minute “cramming”).Eat a full breakfast, including fluids and proteins.Allow yourself plenty of time to arrive at the testing center with time to spare in case there are unexpected incidents or difficulty parking.Bring snacks and water for break that will give you quick energy without giving you a sugar high.Wear lightweight footgear that doesn’t pinch and do an aerobic workout during break. Make sure you have access to fresh air, i.e. not in an enclosed parking garage or indoor stairwell. I used to find a set of outdoor stairs and run them.Eat your snacks and keep your glucose levels up.Good luck.
